It's only fairly recently that I've been questioning my choice to continue subscribing to MxO. But I've always been glad that an MMO based on The Matrix existed at all. And the brand is mostly what has kept me here. At least up until this point. I love The Matrix. But I no longer love The Matrix Online. The MxO from days of yore is a far cry from the MxO we have now. For those of you who only know MxO as it has existed under SOE, I don't think I can adequately express what you missed out on when the game was under Monolith.
There was a time when I would defend nearly every change this game went through because I wanted the game to succeed. I've since run out of such energy. More and more I'm realizing that there is less and less worth defending. Subsequent with the "new approach", each update to this game ultimately brings in little more than new gear to farm. For some people this is probably sufficient and worthy of a monthly fee. As far as I'm concerned however, a new pair of virtual pants or sunglasses every six weeks will never replace an intricate and in-depth story which hinges on immersion and player interaction. We once had a living, breathing world in which to dynamically connect with key story characters. This is what made the game great. Now we have static quests in which to interact with scripted robots... and a party every now and then. With everything that made this game unique having been severely reduced or stripped away completely, I no longer know what I'm paying for. So I suppose this is it. For now.

At some point, everyone must answer the question: "What are you fighting for?"
The answer is rarely simple. Truly, the important things never are.

Freedom, peace, ideals, power, love. All surely worth defending.
But choice, I believe, is the noblest of pursuits. The will to choose our path in life is what I am fighting for. What I am prepared to die for. It is what makes us great.
Those who would strip us of choice would strip us of our humanity. They fear the power that choice permits us. Power that they do not have. And they are envious.
I choose to live. I choose to live freely. And I choose to fight. To fight for choice.

Simply put, the White Avero Cuffed Trench has become the "Not So White Avero Cuffed Trench" since Update 54.

This is just a little nit-pick of mine, and I understand it's probably not even on the "To Do" list. It probably exists in a realm independent of task itemization. The Development Limbo. Eternally suspended between worlds. But here it is, for future consideration at the very least: We don't have "Ability Crafters" or "Apparel Crafters" or "Upgrade Crafters". We have coders. Why then, do the coding buffs on enhanced clothing refer to "crafting"? It would be nice to see some singularity in how these buffs are named in accordance with their corresponding abilities. I can't imagine this being a painstakingly difficult change to make. Perhaps it can be shoe-horned into the "Spelling Error" category of things to fix.

To stand up for what you believe in, you must stand alone. You must stand in darkness, with the weight of the world on your shoulders. Exhaustion will set in, hope will seem as a fairy tale, and you will want nothing more than to give up. The opposition will always outnumber you, and the space between will only get smaller. To stand up for what you believe in, you must stand alone. You must stand with the conviction that change needs to be made. Your weapons will fail, your bones will break, but your belief in this change will endure. And if that thought is not enough comfort for you, then I'm afraid nothing ever will be.

I'm jealous of Rarebit's eye for screenshots. From IMDB: The name of the company Neo works for is Metacortex. The roots of this word are meta-, which according to Webster's means "going beyond or higher, transcending," and -cortex, which is "the outer layer (boundary) of gray matter surrounding the brain." Thus, Metacortex is "transcending the boundaries of the brain." Without further ado...

The "light pool" is the spotlight that hovers over your character at night so you can see where you are. Ever since the holiday patch my light pool has gone missing, as illustrated by the below screenshot. Is this happening to anyone else?

In the most recent cinematic, we see the dichotomy of attitudes between Anome and Cabolco. The Unlimits have gained an immeasurable amount of power, and they are plotting to take over the matrix. On one end of the scale, Anome, due to his past, wishes to use this power to rule through fear. By showing bluepills (and redpills) the danger he is capable of, he wishes to impose his own form of control. Obey us, or else... On the other end, however, we see Cabolco contently watching the sunset as the rest of the group plans their next attack. He interjects and tries to reason with Anome, suggesting that they could be "worshipped as heros", even if it means staging a rescue to win the affections of the, er... pod potatos. Which side of the scale do you find yourself on? Which do you feel would be more effective? Feel free to answer in-character, or out-of-character, or both.

I doubt this thread will be very successful. Post real life images of things you've seen in The Matrix Online. Images of random phone booths don't count.

I was watching The Matrix last night with the "Critics" commentary. I dunno, something about three faceless guys ripping my favorite movie to shreds really puts a smile on my face. Listening to them put me in the mindset that the movie might not be all that great, and it helped me look at it more snidely. Oddly enough, I have an even greater appreciation for the movie now. But something occurred to me towards the end:
1 - Morpheus gets captured and is taken to the government building for interrogation.
2 - Neo and Trinity make it out of the matrix, and decide to go back in to save Morpheus.
3 - They load themselves up with guns... lots of guns, and a bomb to detonate inside the government building making sure no other authorities can enter.
4 - Neo and Trinity clear out the lobby, head to the elevator, set up the bomb, detonate it, and make their way to the roof via the elevator's pulley system.
Here's where I got a little confused. The pair makes it to the roof, and dispatches the SWAT team and agent. Neo decides it would be a good idea to make use of the SWAT helicopter and asks Trinity if she can fly it. She replies coolly, "Not yet" before having Tank load her up with the necessary piloting instructions.
The thing that struck me was, how were they planning to save Morpheus if that helicopter wasn't so conveniently provided? If the SWAT team had never brought the helicopter, Neo and Trinity would pretty much be stuck on the roof. They had destroyed the elevator, and with the lobby consumed by fire, they'd have no way out of the building. I guess they could take the stairs, but that would make for some boring movie watching.
If anyone can offer up a reasonable explanation/interpretation for this, I would appreciate it.

Nine new sigs in addition to the one I've been using for the past few months. All using the FA sig format. Comments/suggestions welcome.

 "There is no spoon."
"We've had our eye on you for some time now, Mr. Anderson."
"Were you listening to me, Neo? Or were you looking at the woman in the red dress?"

I'm not sure how many people will get this. If you don't know who Blue Man Group is, I'd recommend checking them out.
So all this talk about "blue" lately got me thinking. And now with Sony's announcement for a battle of the bands in MxO, I decided to go ahead and throw this together. Not my best work, but not the worst either considering the amount of time I spent on it.

At least in terms of filming, an option to turn off the green interlock reticles is very much needed. We have a pool of immense talent in this community when it comes to making in-game movies, and I think the quality of those movies would be lost just a little bit if those green circles were visible every time a fight took place. We already have the option to turn off hacker effects and player text, which helps make our movies easier to watch. Just the same, we should have the option to remove the interlock reticles.

A few weeks ago I set a goal for myself to not post anything on these forums for a while. I've had a lot of fun lurking, but this is something that I feel shouldn't go unannounced:
Penny Arcade kicks off Child's Play 2005
If you know what Penny Arcade is, then it's probably safe to say you know what Child's Play is. But if you don't, I highly recommend reading through the website.
Help bring a little joy to a child who will be spending this holiday season in a hospital bed.
Every little bit counts.
