Either Staggered or Dazed has a slight debuff to Defense (can't remember at the moment), so that may be what you're experiencing.

The purpose of these is to have one unified place to look up information, in this case, where people are. It doesn't work as well when you have five hojillion different maps that overlap/contain different users and information. Like I said, two seconds of searching saves a lot of trouble.
Not putting it down or anything (apart from the color scheme, which is just personal preference and easily tweaked on the client side), just making mention of a larger, more established map on the same service for the purposes of avoiding branching.Message Edited by Cal on 06.29.2006 02:33 PM

Here's one that you could have found with two minutes searching on Frappr (and has been around for... 7 months or so)... oh, and doesn't have an eye-bleeding color scheme.

Yeah, some more complex PvE encounters besides Tank and Spanks (or, in terms of Box 4, Terrain Bug and Spank ) would be very cool. We don't really even having the whole Tank part even (then again, my research on the aggro system is like... near zero) so this would be doubly awesome. It seems all they can do at this point is just throw more mobs at us, rather then making the encounters actually require some strategy. Having them in a construct/mission area dealy would be also prevent folks from simply zerging it with half the server or something dumb like that.
On the subject of drops, as long as they don't mudflate our current gear out the window, I'd be more then happy. Maybe even a buffed female bandana .
The encounters themselves, like I said, my research on PvE is about zero since it's all so borked at the moment, but if they can actually make these encounters interesting, worthwhile in terms of gear, and actually require some strategy... that'd be awesome.
Great idea Rogue.

Precedent has been set with regards to "exploiting the fact that buffs do not dynamically update is an exploit...". So the same can be said for abilities, "Exploiting the fact that abilties do not dynamically update mid-animation, is probably an exploit."
His damage though... yeah, that's not out of line at all.

May as well... I'm already on that map thingy...
- Male 19 - Los Angeles, CA - First MMO - Asheron's Call ('bout 5-6 years ago) - Played (seriously/competively) - Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Battlefield 1942, Lineage II, Star Wars: Galaxies, World of Warcraft (current) and well... MxO (nominally current). - Not too much good looking on the MMO front for a bit, but I've played them long enough to be jaded about MMOs until their release (beacuse you can't throw a rock without an MMO's pre-release help being, ZOMGZ this game will be different!!!1one!1!). - Been playing MxO for a little under a year and a half.Message Edited by Cal on 06.25.2006 12:53 AM

Cypherite rebuttals/agreements/thingies...
- It's not a real organization, but "But you can certainly pretend you are. Bandanas forever!" -Rarebit.
- You are effectively alienating yourself from the majority of the game. You aren't "supposed" to be doing
Zion Machine missions but that's all you can do anyway, and you still flag as Zion Machine. Yeah...
- The storyline is not suited to these splinter organizations so you are wasting your time. Wait, you actually thought you could affect/take an active role in it, even after all these months of complete proof otherwise?
- The "Philosophy" of
EPN the Cypherites is not well-defined and flucuates. This is no one's fault that well... we could do anything to (apart from like... not paying them $15 USD/month anymore).
- Due in part to #4, the direction of the
EPN Cypherite organization is too heavily dictated by the Liaison Officers and players. When The Matrix gives you lemons, make lemonade .
- The flippin' Kid is the leader... and he was the worst part about Revolutions. "Take da' blue pill man." That is all.
- Since the group has not been clearly defined people assume things about you by having the EPN tag. In fact, during past critical missions EPN was said to have used codebombs, but then The Kid and the liaisons have said that was the work of rogue elements and not what EPN believes in... F'ing Sleepwalkers.
- Hanging out in Churches is lame. We got like... a bar, then again, you do have that whole religous fanaticism thing going on. Durka durka for the win!
- Some machinists are ok. =P Yeah, those Chambers dudes are cool.
- The liaison officer is horrible. I wub our liasons personally, and at least TaeCross doesn't like... pull Merrits.

Well, unlike Fenshire, I was a Machinist to be well... a Machinist. I always felt that it was my role to protect everyone, awakened, program, or bluepill. Zion was filled with too many crazys to come up with a cohesive strategy, the Meros only cared about themselves, and the Machinists well, they are programs after all. Programs follow rules, and if they made the Truce, they would follow it until conditions made doing so not feasable.
Additionally, they are the only ones that have obligations that "matter" to all three groups of sentients. To the programs, well they themselves are programs (they could care less about the Exlies, but half a group that's going about their business is better then nothing). To the blue pills, they are required for their own survival. To the red pills, well, you have the Truce.
Truce breaks down? I would hope I would have been allowed to fight alongside those troublemakers that caused the whole thing to tumble where I could be best used (in the Real on in the Matrix), but if it was decided that free humans as a whole were a problem, well, at least reinsert me (even if I were allowed to fight, I'd still probably have to be reinserted post-war). If I had to die, period well... I guess I'm kind of up a creek.
I feel the most likely is reinsertion, simply beacuse here, they don't "lose" anything and they are taking the freed human population down a couple folks by doing so, and gaining power cells. Again, it isn't terribly clear cut and rests upon what the "enemy" is. (The same could be said for Machine programs, if programs (self-exluding) were deemed to be the problem, then would they finish off their own "loyal" programs as you put it, or just Exiles?)
(As for bandana-ness, well, it's easy, I care about protecting. Simple. If I have to go outside the laws of the system to protect "life", I will, and did.)

Devs, slap a reuse time on area heals please.
Imp. Hacking is the same as old Passive Code, nothing's changed except having to go down FM for it.
Additionally, what would a Healer do besides healing? If you go down a whole tree for its abiltiies to heal and support (only every five or so minutes) what am I going to be doing in the meantime when all 3 heal families are on cooldown? Switch to Self-Defense? Shoot people?

All that gets nerfed is my current Trauma/UA combo and I'll just go back to Trauma/FM for Improved Hacking. It does the same exact thing as Passive Code, so for someone who's a pure Healer, it won't change anything.
Additionally, we can't Heal people to full instantly.
The fastest would be Panicked Heal for around 150 (and it's on a 5min CD), and 3 area heals (12s total to cast) that would heal in total around 2k.
Will fixing perma-Passive Code knock 150 or so points off of someone's heals that doesn't have Imp. Hacking, yes, but Hybrids aren't what you have to worry about from healers since they're too busy burning their IS and time to effectively heal a group.

It's is very true though. Not only do faction have a specific sig format for all their members, but there are community fads that have occurred, and are occuring. This thought just crossed my mind now, seeing all the 'pose' animation sigs. Before this the last big thing in sigs were the 'Mega City/Sin City' ones that were put together. Who has one of these new pose sigs? Who wants one of them? Who has no sig?
I've always believed sigs should show a unity towards your org and/or faction. Trilateral is being very generous by doing character sketches of everyone in the DoE, and that's obviously going to lead to a "group shot" once he's finished everyone that's asked for one. So I guess that's our little intra-faction "fad". Personally, I don't like animated sigs. GIFs, Flash, anything. They just bother me, so I turned off image animation in my web browser. Yeah, it's been like that since CR2.0 release.
A Passive Code, if you're spec'd for it will only add 150-160pts per Heal, if you aren't, then around 100 (for group heals, divide by 2 for single-targets, and 4 for instants). It isn't as big a difference as it may seem, but it is still quite noticable.
Someone rolling a Gunman with some Patcher isn't getting those heals for free. Their radius and IS effeciency suck, they don't have any IS cost reductions, and they of course lose a ton of utility from their main tree. In duels it's pretty good (although not as impossible to beat like a pure Patcher) but in mass PvP (at least on Recursion) they get eaten for lunch.
Way too much of a utility loss for a bad heal.

you know, im soooooo tired of the above ridiculous assertion.
ITS A GAME. THE WHOLE GODDAMN THING IS MEANINGLESS.
on topic, ill be in the construct tonight with vitamin i, around 8pm mega city time. kill us if you can.
It's not that it "means something." It's that, I can walk away from it with "something." Not a larger e-peen, or whatever, something I can say, "yeah, I did something." It is having some victory that is independent on everyone else, the game telling you you've done something, not people, beacuse people will always complain...
Be it near-meaningless control of a planet in SWG, or a bit closer to one of these in WoW. All MxO PvP is these days is killing the same mindless targets in the same bland spots, no inovation, and little use for the dribble... like the love child of Progress Quest and an emo IRC room.
On topic though...
To artificially create a new PvP spot, you first have to look at one that's grown rather organically: Camon C.
What does Camon C have going for it?
- It's not the old spot(s), Mara C and Tabor W.
- High population density. (A lot of people in a small area.)
- High visibility. (Also has to do with a lot of people, but also with how accessable it is.)
- A clear victory condition. (i.e. holding the Hardline unopposed, honestly, that's a terrible one too, but MxO's terrible at PvE, so that's the best you can do.)
- Near-by and obvious regrouping/staging locations (Mara NE, Camon N, Tabor C, etc.)
- Not tactically bland. (Probably the least important one, sadly.)
Ok, how does 01 compare?
- It's been aroud forever. On the surface it's as vestigial and useless a PvP spot as Mara C.
- No one ever goes to it, and the place is too massive for the current PvP population. You could run around forever without meeting someone up.
- It's a construct, only for high levels, and no real way of knowing what's going on inside (no spectator mode like L2, or anything, and I've never heard an in-game DJ give any decent commentary on a fight in an MMO). Also, without a central gathering spot, how can you even know people are there besides /who?
- You can't "win" 01. The Taskmaster is a joke and serves as more of an annoyance then anything. The base of the platform is a decent King of the Hill spot, but it normally devolves into base camping before too long.
- The bases serve a decent purpose, but you also can't break up a regroup beacuse of the uber-Sentries.
- It's elevation differences make for an interesting place to fight, but there's just so much wasted space that can't be used without a much bigger PvP population, it's like playing a 64-man BF2 map with only two guys. You're running around more then actually having fun and killing people. Still, force flag for the win... but Master Shadow's still annoying. It makes Vanish (WoW's, not MxO's POS one) look halfway fair.
Ok... so how do you make 01 well, not suck (without Dev intervention)?
You need a purpose, a near universally decided victory condition: holding the base of the Taskmaster platform. With one single spot to concentrate the action, you can also cut down on whining... unless people come in and b**** with Master Shadow on but that's really lame.... really. Secondly, you need it to actually matter. That's not going to happen in MxO, so you need to use what we do have, the radio stations.
Having Fight Nights in 01 hosted by stations every week is a tricky thing. You have to have DJs who can, a) get in, and b) actually give two s**** about PvP. I'm not asking for TSN... but come on, something. If I wanted to listen to just music while I fought... there's more then enough of what I like on my hard drive. If it's done well though, or even decently, that'd be pretty cool.
Oh, and for the love of God, no prizes involved. We need less drama in our PvP, not more of the self-induced kind.
... and for that Horde SOB Blindside, you better be at least Stone or Blood Guard, or I'm gonna be disappointed .

MxO really doesn't really have a whole lot of "uber PvE stuff".
The Pandora's Box missions are the hardest PvE stuff in the game, although those still really only require a team for the last one at 50. All the other missions for Neighborhood Contacts, Critical missions and stuff, all that stuff scales to your level so that's probably not what you're looking for. Places like the Creston Hideout are still pretty tough for a couple 50s, but the biggest problem with them is you only come out of the place with one of the unique drop (although you can stay down there and farm the boss every 20mins or so).
If you're looking for intersting PvE-centric stuff, your best bet is actually the PvP constructs. The drops are great (especially off the bosses), and you get to fight people in your own level range.

They're a Spy class, that specializes in Support and Alpha Strikes... yeah, they need escape mechanisms. That said, you have Cartwheel, Back Roll, and all their other moves additionally.
MKT's power comes from set-up and control, it's ability to escape is just as important as its Sneak...

Since your base health of 2.6k is just that, base, it isn't affected by stats. The Max Health Bonus from Vit (or in Guardian Patcher) only work when you use a buff that increases your max health, like a lot of the Operative class buffs or the Upgrade/Bolster Health buffs that you cast.
Since buffs' stats are determined by the person that casts them, it's not all too helpeful. That's the main reason that Vitality is as a whole underwhelming until we see the Org abilities. If I remember right, a couple of them include IS buffs, so that'll be a nice buff to them.

Not counting escape moves, Knife Thrower has Deadly Throw and Throat Cutting Throw usable in Interlock. Riflemen has: Body Shot, Disarming Shot, Covering Fire, and Three Round Burst. Either way, both really blow in IL .
I think the big problem is Rifle Butt Smash doesn't really seem to be acting like an escape move anymore so that probably needs to get looked at. For now, like people said, load up some Duelist to help you out in IL (and round out your state-requiring moves).

I've found it happens when you move when teleporting someone before the animation finishes. You never actually moved from that location until you did the Recall animation after the person loads in, but on your client it looks like you've moved away just fine.
Most of the time a /jackout snaps you back to place and then you're on your way again, other times you need to exit game or get teleported for it to be fixed.
It's indeed odd, but as long as you don't move once you've cast teleport until after the person loads in, you should be cool.

Whats your least fave tree? MAs, maybe Proxy Coder
Are you a solo or a group type player? Groups ftw.
What do you like doing to people in PVP? Uh... getting called a Zerg when we're one team of guys .
What do you hate having happen to you in PVP aside getting ganked? The sploits, the sploits need to burn. (And honestly, I don't have a problem getting ganked since that's kinda how PvP works, sometimes you've got a lot of people on, sometimes ya don't.)
What are your attributes set for? Healing mainly, but I got some nice stats on the side.
Why have you chosen to go with that build? Because 90% of the time I'm a healer, but the Ballistic/Thrown bonuses are helpful for when I feel like killing folks.
What could be done to improve PVP for you? People actually understanding the combat system so they can provide some challange, and stop complaining.
What content would you like to see added to the game? Can't really say beyond more story-content. This game isn't really Acheiver friendly so more shiny stuff doesn't help too much.

Actually no. I almost always play Patcher actually (Trauma Surgeon with some UA and FE at the momement). In terms of stuff I play besides that, sometimes Spy, sometimes Gunner, but mostly I'm always a Patcher.
The reason I respond to the Hacker threads is that:- A lot of folks expect to have the same damage dynamic as Operatives (as orginally), when the numbers don't support that. Viros have amazing IS effeciency and short cast times, and you choose to ignore it to be "just like Operatives" when you're best at fighting in a completely different style.
- As a Patcher, I don't worry about Operatives one bit, when I get interlocked, they're just an IS battery for me and I can outheal any damage they throw out. A Viro on the other hand, will probably outdamage my heals, and at the very least will outlast my IS.
- People are stuck on assuming the old combat dynamic of: Mez, Burst DPS, dead still work for both groups. If you want your overall damage to be like an Operatives, then stop trying to emulate them or compare abilities with them. It shounds weird, but you aren't meant to kill people like Operatives do. Operative and Viro are two completely different styles of combat. If you like burst DPS, then go Operative, that's what it's there for.
Finally... I'm probably the last person you'd want to accuse of being a "Hacker Hater", it's just that well, I don't understand why people want the same kind of combat as an Operative (especially in a skill-based system). It's actually quite nice to have two different combat styles in one game at the touch of a button.
The reason I show numbers, do tests is beacuse that's the only way to actually figure something out. When cryshal said "Dev Field doesn't stun anymore", I knew it did since I'd been hit by it, but I went and tested it and posted a screenshot.
When people said that Code Infection's damage blew hard, I tested it a couple times. There's a bug with it, yes, and I pin-pointed what was causing it to lose some damage (and also pointed out that CI4.0 needed a buff to be in-line with the other CIs). Outside of that though, it's an impressive ability, and I might be picking up the Ravager tree myself for it.
All the complaints about Viro being underpowered, I test them, and post my results, the numbers don't add up (in my eyes), but the numbers are there for you guys to use them in your own arguements if you'd like. If you think something's wrong with my methodology or style of analysis, tell me so, I'll be sure to take a hard look at how I do things.
Still, I feel that Hacker is quite powerful if used correctly. I agree it isn't Operative, but Operative has its own unique set of problems with the way it does things (and oddly enough, the things Operative has trouble with are the things that Viro excels at).

In essence Cal is correct though the DPS formula that is listed in his post is not quite correct the gist of his post is correct. You can calculate your damage within +/- <small number>% BEFORE taking into count your target's level and resistances will little trouble. As you will notice you dont do the exact same damage on the same target with the same ability every time. In general; - if target < level than attacker = +damage
- if target >level than attacker = -damage
- Resistances can off set some of the +damage from being lower level but not all of it.
These are good general guides to getting a feel for your damage potential. When testing you should always really use equal level targets that have about level * 4 in the given resistance for the damage type you are using. For example; - If resistance is < level * 4 = +damage
- If resistance is > level * 4 = -damage
This is why having high resistance for your level can off set a bit of a level difference but not all of it. I hope this clarifies some of the confusion regarding this. Message Edited by NoRepro on 05-18-200607:16 AM
Ah, thanks for the help NoRepro!
That formula is just a modified version of the one for Healing, which if I remember right, was pretty close to accurate. I haven't really tried testing resistances lately, and especially not with different levels, although that should help a bit in understanding that.
Still, I'm not sure about not doing the same damage, since for a lot of the tests my faction's done (samples of under 50 or so) we've been getting really consistant damage (and heal) values for the exact same set of stats. Would the damage fluxuations appear in sample sizes greater then 100, or are they meant to be rather common?

Yeah, to get 1000+ damage before resistances you'd need 120+ Viral Damage in Speed, or a little over 100 in Power. Not too hard to get really.
Full Auto Redux is the damage ability in a damage-centric tree, it requires a state, isn't AoE, and can also miss... if you're going to compare Dev Field to any Operative ability (which is a bad idea in the first place), take a look at Deadly Shot: the damage and IS effeciency aren't great, it has a half-decent stun-proc, but still isn't an AoE.
Additionally, the fact that Destroyer isn't a damage-centric tree makes it even odder to ask for Dev Field to have high damage. If you look at its sister tree Network Attacker, it has no damage abilities, but both have damage trees right next to them.

I was redoing my buff guide and the fact that Gaussian Blur and Resist Combat stack caught my eye again. That, and the fact that they're % bonuses instead of straight stats got me thinking.
Are those abilities' (and Compel Close Combat for that matter) added unto the "Force/Evade Combat" stat from tactics or are they multiplied by the tactic's stats (like other stuff like Accuracy and Defense)? In that same vein, are Gaussian and Resist Combat meant to stack in the first place?

Recurion's rocking pretty hard at the moment, there's normally at least one PvP fight between Mara and Camon throughout the day, and normally someone brings out a decent chunk of guys at least once a day. That, and LESIG/LE meetings are normally pretty packed.
The rest of the city besides Camon/Mara C (Tabor W sometimes)... yeah, that's a ghost town. Every faction sotra has their own hardline they duel, code, etc. at so it spreads the population thin over the city when something isn't going down (still it's nice to have your own spot every once in a while ).

An MA has a lot of burst DPS that isn't too IS effecient. If the Duelist can block an a decent chunk of the opening string of non-state requiring moves, he should have it. Especially when you look at moves like DP Execution, which has an 80% chance to proc something that hurts the MA, it's a nice move. A double proc from Execution though (16% chance), and the MA really should be toast.
Fighting a Duelist as an MA is really like fighting another Akido GM, a lot of Powerlesses and alot of debuffs, so you have to either play defense, or hope you can just muscle over theirs.

you guys are making the mistake of taking the dps numbers shown on our abs as gospel. do you guys really think theyre accurate? come ON. theres no way in hell. its too general and our bonuses/influences/etc (such as they are) are too broad of a variable for the dps figures to be anything more than the most general, rounded-off baseline figure that they are.
they could change the preload/warmup/whatever timer without affecting the dmg, im sure, since the dmg is the only constant. it can range from x-y, according to your roll, THEN your bonuses are applied to it. based on this constant, keeping in mind the casting time, they figured up what the dps number would be.. roughly.
this is just one of 239 diff things that need to be addressed with hacker.
No... here's the exact formula for damage before resistances (just replace Viral with Thrown, Melee, Ballistic):
((Ability DPS * (1 + Viral Damage Bonus )) + Viral Damage) * Launch Time * (1 + Tactic's Damage Percent)
There is no "roll" for damage, for the same stats it is constant. Also, the ability's Launch Time is just as important as your own stats in determining the damage output.
There's a reason it's called "Damage Per Second" on the abilities.
Also, if you'd like to do some confirmation testing, damage versus a naked target of your level won't equal what comes out of that formula. There's a bit when you have really low resistances (like under 50 or so) that you're actually in negative damage resistance.

LiquidZ wrote: Dev field should be a AOE trump card, just like LC2 is a single target trump card. It should be something you rarely use, and does a helluva lot of damage.
The problem with that is that LC2.0 only works as an Alpha Strike (much like Dev Field), no matter how much "damage" it does, the DPS still blows so it isn't really worth casting in a lot of situations unless you're really low on IS.
