Bayamos, many thanks for the elaborations on these... tricks.
Not sure if I'll be able to try it (there's only so much time I can afford to spend on MxO nowadays), but it was interesting, anyways.
To react to this thread's topic, I think, when it comes down to it, the only thing I'll be missing is the Mega City.
I know it's not exactly a Great Work of Art - all the creativity that makes it interesting is mixed with a portion of lazyness and monotony (copied&pasted buildings/textures/plazas/etc.), some design flaws (most of all the non-matching interior/exterior in buildings), inaccuracies / lacking connection in regard to the source material, some audiovisual flaws, etc. etc. - but when it comes down to it, the City with its ATMOSPHERE, looks, music and design fills me with a beauty I'll be quite sad about "losing forever".
Apart from the enjoyment of running through the world, exploring an area or taking interesting screenshots, it's also inspired me to some drawing - with one or two QUITE decent results, considering I've never done that before.
... Hence my obsession with this "Matrix Offline" thing, as it would preserve pretty much the only aspect of MxO I still really care about.
In regards to all the other aspects, I (sadly?) have never been involved in live events, player events, RP, or any sort of "community thing" outside forum discussion, so while I'm sure I've missed out on a lot, I can't say I'll "miss it" in any way.
I used to be quite obsessed with following the storyline when I was playing, but with time, this interest wore off, as well. It basically went from "exciting official continuation of the Matrix franchise, with all the answers and secrets revealed w000000t" to "some piece of fanfic I don't have time for anymore - might as well get sucked into the Star Wars Expanded Universe".
After all the time, I've slowly become disillusioned with all the flaws, loop holes and (in my mind) decreasing connection to the source material, and just lost interest.
So while I would be potentially interested in spending some time on catching up on everything (Othinn's event logs, everything that's happened since I've left), ultimately I've left that all behind.
So yea - Mega City. That's all.
As long as the servers open up again (lol), I'll try to spend some time on exploring the city's geography (never done that properly, to my own surprise), running around the world and looking for drawing ideas.

Few years ago, a user posted some weird (OOC) encounter in the game, where some guy talked big about how the official story sucked, and he was just a wheel in a huge machinery which would "overthrow the system" and impose their own ideas on the community, some kind of storyline with player involvement etc.
Then, the same guy appeared on the forums, and started talking EVEN BIGGER in an EXTREEEEEEMELY sophisticated language, a.o. saying things like "there are things going on in the undeground and there's nothing you can do about it", and referring to each post by its time and date.
A while after, some internet ads / website about "The Third Renaissance" started to appear, and later on, this group apparently organized some kind of player events inside the game.
A player called "stewart daniels" speculated about a connection between that and that "big shot" player from before.
Anyway, I've never got what that all was about, and didn't have the possibility or time to find out, either.
Anything come to surface since then? Anyone wishing to drop the veil, now that it's all over?

So, considering what's going on with the servers right now, this might be the last day (smiley?)...
has anyone achieved anything with the forum mirroring project?
If they just disappeared tomorrow, without any further notice... without anything saved... well, I'd survive it, but it would suck.
I remember someone archived the old version of these forums (I think they were Lithium forums), and they were actually complete and interactive.
So any progress with that? Just curious.

Very glad to see you guys doing that.
There was a time where I would've full-on participated in such a project, but unfortunately, I can't - the time when I played MxO was a time when I had no particular interests or endeavors in real life, and that's a thing of the past.
Sorry, but I sure can't afford to spend time on running a bunch of missions in MxO - though I do have quite a neat collection of mission screenshots (I think pretty much all archive/critical missions up until chapter 7 when I left, plus PB and all contact missions) - some of them in a very organized state, others... less.
If you need any of that, I might assist

Thanks!
I must say, seeing all those various, obscure "underground plots" being revealed as one single mastermind's creation, now being exposed and explained, but also demystified and disambiguated from outside the fourth wall, has a really cool feel to it.
I'd always thought it was some "LESIG project", while other things might be player events or something - never would've thought it was one person pulling the strings. Very cool to know this
Few more questions:
1) On Myspace, there were some more (I think 3) bluepills mentioned on the forums, who also appeared in game. One of them, I think, became a redpill over the course of time, but then killed himself or something (sorry, I've never had time or possibility to delve into that, so I don't remember), which was also posted on the forums.
Was that all you, as well? (almost a rhetorical question, with all the info revealed so far :d )
2) Now this I doubt more, but did you have anything to do with the so-called "Third Renaissance"?
A thing I never got, as well.

Would you have any info on that, or is it something completely unrelated?

I would PHONE THEM. Their online support doesn't work anymore, obviously, but the phone support does. PHONE THEM.
Also, yesterday I've experienced a 2 minute problem - the forums were down and so was the game. So probably just some technical issues they're having.

Wowwww....
I must say, I was never involved in any kind of live event in MxO, but I did take note of some "underground LESIG stuff going on" - a post about the conclusion of the Watchmaker story here, those "unidentified broadcast" posts, interesting bluepills on MySpace, etc.
that stuff always had a kind of "obscure" character to me, it felt like "some mysterious stuff going down... out there", but I didn't fully get what was going on, or what it was all about in the first place.
though alintrigued about that, but either didn't ask, or got only vague answers from others; everyone else seemed to know what was going on and was discussing some puzzles all around the internetz, while I didn't get jack.
I'm glad to be understanding it all before the end - a specific questions about the Joker(s), though:
What was Paul Chadwick's involvement in those storylines (he did mention it in some interview, or Fain Faire, whatevah, and said he couldn't give away anything)? Didn't he once write an RP blog from the perspective of some bluepill, who encountered a "faceless clown" somewhere on the street?
Would be intrigued to get to know about that (as, of course, all the rest as well).
Your multi-tasked, significant involvement and contribution to MxO is nothing short of amazing.

You know, some long time ago, I myself was working towards publishing some kind of "complete mission archive", probably by means of photobucket as well - too bad I lost interest and didn't have time anymore.
I doubt I can afford spending my time on running any single quest or mission in the remaining 2 months, either. If I was locked in a room without anything to do (and where RL endeavors and time ceased existing), maybe I'd even enjoy catching up on everything... well, not the case.
Out of (still existent) interest, how complete / detailed is your mission archive, or is going to be?

If it's something "less difficult" like "The Matrix Offline", worth a shot. Maybe.
As for Jericho - I personally watched the 1st season, but found it kinda meh. Can't get all the fuss about it, but to each his own.

Make sure you have an empty slot on your toolbar in-game and type '/macro Sit /sit' It'll create a macro that you can click (or type the corresponding hotbar slot number) to activate. Once we were under the Downtown map, we could just run to the areas we wanted to go. The Hallways were located just into the water, on the Northeast-most corner of the Downtown map. The White Rooms were straight East from where you'd spawn, in Center Park... give or take.
Wow, cool stuff (actually, the looks are... meh :d ).
Just how do you FIND OUT such stuff? A specific subway where you need to hit a specific macro at a specific time... was that by accident, or... just how?

There were horror stories about how people would exploit themselves into the White Hallways, be right in the middle of taking a screenshot of themselves there, and a CSR would come walking out of one of the doors. Those stories scared the crap out of a lot of us, so we would go late at night, or early in the morning... times we knew that were outside of typical SOE office hours. Once we reached the hallways, 5-10 of us would gather in the middle, /sit, and just talk. You know how people typically gather around a campfire and tell ghost stories to one another? This was like that... except the stories we told were of the strange and often unexplainable things we'd encountered in the game. From Assassin sightings, to whatever. It occurred to me last night that this is one of the things I'm going to miss the most. That sense of awe and mystery... the perception that anything really was possible, and could happen at any time, when you least expect it.
Now that it doesn't matter anymore - could you tell me how exactly such exploits were done?
In my entire time here, I NEVER got any grasp on any kind of exploit, or how you find out such things at all. It's been a mystery to me all along.

Well I downloaded the code from that site, but I can't figure out how to use it. It has no .exe files or anything, and I'm not familiar with any advanced technologies...
I used Dragon UnPACKer to pull out the audio files from those .pkb's. Its pretty easy and intuitive. Install, go to File -> HyperRipper, and select the pkb's you want to pull audio from. It will list the ones it finds, then all you gotta do is save the .wav files to wherever you want them. Some neat bits of unused dialog.
"and select the pkb's you want to pull audio from."
Sorry, but how do I do that? Which tab of the program (HyperRipper) do I use to find the files?
I kinda don't get anything there...

Just something that came to my mind... after an unsuccessful (and maybe somewhat lazy) Google search, I'd thought I'd ask here:
Where does the popular (internet?) catchphrase "I blame Keith" have its origin? Like "spam" or "giant enemy crab" also have their definite origins....
Also what's the story with the MxO character Keith01? Saw Walrus referring to him, and also some Youtube video about him.

An emulator for The Matrix Online will never exist. And yes, Fen, I know you weren't really talking about one, per se, so don't think I'm arguing with you, just pointing out a fact to everyone. 1. Out of all of the emulator projects that I've witnessed/been part of, for The Matrix Online, nobody has been able to get past the whacked out encryption going on in the packets sent between the client and the server. An inability to crack the encryption means that the process can't be reverse-engineered or duplicated. 2. SOE will also never release the files to the public, in any degree. Mainly because even if they wanted to (it's not something they're known for doing, for one), it isn't their property to be releasing to the public. It belongs to Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment. SOE has just been the baby-sitter for the better part of the last four years. Now, if you want to look for ways to keep MxO going, there is an incredibly faint, so-tiny-its-almost-insignificant glimmer of hope... and that is to contact WBIE and talk to whoever's in charge over there about continuing production of The Matrix Online, under a new company's name. If, by some snowball's chance in hell, they agree to negotiate it with you, you'll only have two real concerns... - Covering operation costs; and...
- Paying Licensing/Royalty fees to Warner Bros.
If it were me, and WB said yes, I'd make the game free-to-play, like Freerealms is now. I would create new in-game items that could be micropurchased, and I would sell advertising space (in-game billboards, anyone?) to cover costs.
But yeah...
Bottom line?
That's the closest anyone is ever going to come to keeping MxO alive.
Phrack, thanks for the definitive information on that.
Clinging on to false dreams or living in a pleasant illusion has been illegal at least since 1999 (and especially in THIS environment).

Upon calling it (it was already 20:30, respectively), an automatic voice told me this number was unavailable from my area. WTH??
Does anyone know where the complete list of SOE support numbers is? Couldn't find it on their page, tbh.

(I know it's not "awesome" by any "serious artistic standards", but, you know, just on my personal part.)
Thanks to the RSI forums, I know I'm not the only one, either - so maybe having the ability to "run around the world" (without lag, even ) wouldn't be all that bad, either.

Well, my problem is that it doesn't work - so I'm trying out different threads to overcome the error.
Phoning them up didn't work yet (to correct the currency), so I thought I'd do something with the payment source meanwhile - which now throws up problems, as well.
I mean, if it's too late, then meh - but presuming it MIGHT work, do you know how I deal with the described problem with the Payment Source?

I mean, Station Pass still keeps working for an indefinite time, and it includes MxO - so if I subscribe to the Station Pass (today, or later), will I be able to access MxO? Or is it gonna be excluded from the Pass as of now?

I know that, in practice, it's against the copyright... but theoretically, would it be possible to turn MxO into a single player game?
In such a single player version, it would be possible to run around the world, with all its (limited) interactive features, doing quests and missions, experiment with useropts. etc. etc. - just without the multiplayer factor (i.e. events, pvp, teaming up etc.)
Also no lag anymore
I've seen this idea being brought up a few times here, and seeing as how I've always been more of a "single player" in MxO and been a huge victim of server latency (and still am), I'd be very curious if such a thing were POSSIBLE at all - in terms of what's already on the client-side, and what requires server information.
I know some people here are quite in the know on such things, so any ideas?

One more thing, I just added a new payment source, a credit card (it was "bank transfer") - however, I can't remove the old one.
Also, the credit card one doesn't say it's "currently working for MxO", while the bank transfer one does. How do I deal with that?
Sorry for that

Ah, thanks!
