Anyway I've been putting off reading through this thread and posting a proper reply because...well because it isn't going to be easy. But I'm going to try to get that done today.

Sorry about that Rare... my bad... I wrote up the story for Massively.com. Just thought you deserved a proper send off, especially after all the work you did for this game.

I resubscribed not because I want to actually get back in and play (though I probably will now that I paid 15 dollars) but because I wanted to personally thank you. You worked your rear off, and I think it's quite clear after 21 pages that we all really appreciated it, even when we butted heads and even after we parted ways.

My time spent in Matrix is still one of the best times I've ever had in an online game, and that's never going to change. Some of the others on Massively's staff still question the stories I tell about this game, and wonder if they're real, and I have to keep reminding them that they all are. When you can get a whole body of MMO industry nuts to gasp in awe when you tell a story about a game everyone thought sucked... you must have been doing something right.

When I first started playing MxO? Well, there was a dedicated live events team and 9 servers. And it was owned by this mythical company people called "Monolith".

Our going out of business sale is going on now. All flowers 50% off, everything must go.

Well if you ever want to hang dear, I'm ladyreturn on Xfire, I play World of Warcraft on Lightning's Blade, and I'm very much into The Ship and Defcon, and can be found as either Seraphina or [BR] Seraphina on both of those games. I <3 The Ship... who thought murder could be so much fun!!! And Defcon... ah... genocide. Lol. Such a creepy game... but yet soooo hard and soo much tactical fun.

Oh, and before I forget, I can be found on Dystopia every once in a while. For those who don't know, Dystopia is a mod of the Half Life 2 engine, and it's a cyberpunk version of counter-strike, with hacking and stuff. Really cool stuff, and free as long as you have Half Life 2. SMILEY

Soooo... just wondering... anyone here get Defcon off of Steam? I'd be willing to have a little MxO Defcon match, see who's the king of genocide and all of that. Heh. SMILEY

SP was a funny as hell, but it was funnier when people started breaking out The Hungering Cold (which was the Sword of a Thousand Truths) and others started dressing up like the shirtless knight and ran down to Goldshire and started dueling newbies with a dagger. SMILEY

((I apologize for the format of this post. The forums apparently borked up when I posted this, and I don't feel like editing it. Sorry.)

I wasn't going to post a reply to this thread, but my overwhelming desire to elaborate on my original post finally persuaded me.

I wasn't going to say this in my original post. I hinted at it,
but it's been pretty much passed over. When I say this game is
broken, I don't mean the game mechanics are broken. The
developers aren't idiots - they're far from it. This game can use
a lot of cleaning, sure, but it's still fun in my eyes, and it still
holds endless possibility (as we have all noted). This MMORPG
still has more potential than alot of games out there, and that's why
I'd like to stay.

But I have problems. I have alot of them. And the biggest
one is when I say this game is broken, I should really say this
community is broken. Perhaps at the lower levels of "social-fu",
this game is great. And for those of you who enjoy it, please,
enjoy it for as long as you can. There's alot to find here and
there's alot of great people. If you're not getting what I'm
getting, then avoid it like the plague. Have alot of fun doing
whatever it is your doing, because the most important part is your
having fun and spending your money wisely.

But for every great person in this game, there seems to be a power
hungry whore. I should know, I was one. In some people's
eyes, I still am one. And that's why I'm leaving. I'm not
paying 15 bucks a month to enjoy this game. I'm paying 15 bucks a
month to endure people talking behind my back, others hating me, barely
anyone showing up to my events, my entire faction getting trashed
simply because I'm in it, and my forum security breached and showing up
on these public boards. Quite simply, it's a waste of 15 bucks
out of my pocket. I should keep my money and my sanity and get
out while the getting is good.

Some people told me to go to another server and enjoy myself
there. Well, I would, but levelling in this game is brutal
torture in my eyes. I hate every minute of levelling. It's
more tedious than going to a 2 hour church ceremony - even with the
critical missions. I don't want to go through the grind again on
another server. Even with all of my friends on this server, the
level grind was extremely painful for me. I don't want to do it
again. By same reasoning, I don't want to make a new character on
this server. Once again, in my opinion, it's not worth it for
me. It's not going to save the game for me, it's just going to
drive me nuttier.

Updates to this game may pull me back so I can explore them, but it's
not going to hold me here. I will stay when someone patches this
community to version 2.1.

When I started playing this game, even my roleplaying "enemies" were
great people to play with. The community, regardless of
disposition & organization, was allied together as players.
Now around every turn for me is controversy, hatred, and dislike
because of X action I committed. Some of them I did and I take
the blame for. Some of them didn't involve me, but I take the
blame for it anyway. I get to carry the burden of myself and
others. It's not fun. It's not a game. It's not how
people should play, but they do.

There is no "power" here in Matrix Online. There is only a
crapshoot of a popularity contest - which I would rather not be
involved with. All I wanted to do was run some events, do some
RP, and just be recognized as "yeah, she's good for RP". Some
people will say that sentence, and that makes me feel like I
accomplished something. Many others will not, and that makes me
wonder alot more why I bother to write, invent, code websies, pay for
websites, roleplay, and stay here as a so-called "community
pillar". I'm more of the *CENSORED* end of a joke (no thanks to some of
my own actions, but we've been there and done that) than a "community
pillar". Community pillars are complimented for what they
do. I get yelled at and exiled and ignored, and end up shelling
money for websites out of my pocket and wasting my time on creating
events only to have 2 people show up, and neither of them thank me for
my time, effort, and money.

But, hey, X faction can throw a party and 50+ people show up. It
took them 10 minutes of planning and 10 minutes of asking a radio
station to advertise, and they get people. I can spend 10+ hours
of event planning, content creation, graphic design, and farming for
prizes and get 2 people to show up. YAY!

However, it's really really hard to get out of this crap *CENSORED* popularity
contest and still be involved in the things I'm involved with. I
came to that conclusion about 6-7 months ago, but I thought "It's more
worth it to help others and make cool events than be brought down by
this bullcrap." Which is what most people tell me.

However, until you endure about 6-7 months of this bullcrap, it really
really really really wears you out. I'm finally worn out. I
don't want to endure it anymore because the pay off isn't as great as
the detriments. I get more flak and crap from people than I do
"Hey, thanks, that was a fun event" or "Hey, you're a good RPer".

I'm going to World of Warcraft because there I'm no one. I'm not
known by the community, only my friends. People don't hover
around every single word that comes out of my mouth. People don't
stab me in the back. I don't have to run events to keep others
entertained. I don't have to worry about people breaching my
forums and posting what I say to my friends publically just to make me
look bad and start problems. I don't have to worry - and that's
the bottom line. That's why World of Warcraft is better, because
I'm a nobody and don't have to worry. I'm paying 15 dollars a
month to have fun again. That's a worthy payment.

In conclusion, I'm not going there because of the fantasy
atmosphere. I'm not going there because everyone else is doing
it. I'm not going there because BLIZZARD IS TEH ROXORS. I'm
not going there because this game is dying. I'm going there to
have fun being a nobody and pay 15 bucks a month to have fun instead of
paying 15 bucks a month to be downtrodden and miserable.

I'll be back when this community sorts itself out. Which, in my
estimation, will be somewhere between 6 months and never. Sorry
for the negativity, but I feel that perhaps I should be truthful with
how I feel, and perhaps maybe I shouldn't care about what others think
of me anymore and just go on doing what I feel like doing. I'm
not shackled here anymore.

Sorry guys, but after staying away for two weeks, I've realized that this game and this game alone has been driving me off the deep end. My life moves better now, I'm not as stressed, I'm happier, and I'm getting on with things I should have been getting on with.

I'm not saying this is a horrible game. This is probably one of the best MMORPGs I've ever played. It's just it's not what it was, not what it was planned to be at the beginning... If it was still like it was in the beginning, plus all the bug fixes and CR 2.0, I'd probably stick around. But the fact is, I have no reason to stick around.

I've hit 50, the faction I'm apart of can function without my presence, the story has lost it's interesting qualities, my roleplaying ideas and skills are no longer required, and this community is more worried about spite than success anymore. It seems as each day goes by, we all become more and more Merovingian at heart... and I don't mean that in a good way. OOC and IC has become so blurred that I think some of us forget where the game ends and we begin. That's not the way it should be, but it's the way it has seemingly become.

I hate to go off on a negative note, but I can't think of what else to say. I'm moving on to greener pastures, and that's the truth. I'm not even technically leaving MxO... I'm instead joining World of Warcraft with former MxO friends, because we all know it's the people that run this game - not the game itself.

To say I'm leaving forever is a lie. I will probably be back if/when this game becomes more interesting and introduces new innovations - as it inevitably does. So... I might be back someday. But who can say when...

And, I'd like to leave the community with this final sentence in mind: "We are not our characters, we are players. We are not apart of 3 organizations, we are apart of 1 organization - The Community of the Matrix Online. We are all people, players, and most of all, we are friends."

First of all, besides me wanting this thread to be locked... I see NO *CENSORED* REASON why our boards should be posted here. I do not go into the Collective's private forums and spam them here, I don't re-hack my way into DA's private boards and spam them here...

The Arrangements in Progress board is for the RP hits we're thinking about performing. It's available only to us because it involves some RP which may NEVER EVER HAPPEN, like this thread. After thinking about it for a long while, we deemed this post "undoable" and just moved on with our lives... not caring about it.

What hurts me the most is that now I have to go back in and find out who did this... which may lead to me booting legitimately active new Blood Rose members because I can't prove who did it. Unless said person comes forward, I'm going to kick out all of our new recruits. So congratulations to whoever did this, you not only slandered us but you just put people who wanted to legitimately be in Blood Rose into jeopardy. You, whoever you may be, just caused people who are totally not affiliated with any of this **bullcrud**, a hard time for no real good reason.

To be honest... I have no clue what has happened to this community... when we lower ourselves to posting other faction's PRIVATE MATERIAL and then, for some odd reason, getting into slandering us, the victim faction.

We don't go around harassing you. We don't express our deviant opinions in public. We're good little children and keep to ourselves, and we don't even get into your business too much. We don't have a bad public image (until now) and I don't even understand why this needs to be brought up AT ALL. It's a DEAD THREAD.

What the hell has happened to this community. I like to wake up, sit down, and enjoy this game. Not sit down, log in, and find a 7 page *CENSORED* fest about how my faction sucks. Some people don't want us to enjoy this game I guess... I don't see why, when, like I said, we don't get into anyone's face, we don't enforce our opinions to others, we keep them to ourselves and that is the best policy.

We just want to enjoy the game like everyone else. But... like I said... I can't believe that some people don't even want us to enjoy this game and wish to give us a hard time for, like I said, a reason I really can't specify. If we were harassing you day and night, if we were saying everything around here was **bullcrud**... then maybe I'd understand. But we don't. So... in conclusion... what the *CENSORED*.

Valexia looked up from her position on the floor and squinted in the dim light. The room was small, only a single door to enter and leave through, no windows, and what was left of the floral wallpaper. The light from the single bulb above her wasn't doing enough for the space; shadows were being cast all over the edges of the room.

She slowly pulled herself upright on the dirty wooden floor and looked around. Her hands were tied around behind her back and she noticed that her feet were bound as well. She felt very weak and tired, and could barely keep her head up. She saw the green code dripping from her face and falling onto her skin tight bodysuit and it forced her to blink a few more times. She was still an Unlimit... and why was she in this position?

All she could remember was guarding a base for Anome, protecting one of their many hackers as they harassed the Merovingian operatives hunting them as well as any Zionist they could track down. After that, her memory was black... she had absolutely no idea how she ended up here.

She strugged against her bonds, but it was no use, she was feeling too tired to do anything. Questions swirled in her head as she sat there, trying to figure out what was wrong with her... why she couldn't do anything... how she got there...

A scratching noise came from in front of her and she jerked her head up as quickly as she could muster. A cloud of dust swirled in front of her, being kicked off from the floor. She blinked again and felt the slight breeze against her face. "This isn't possible... there's no windows in here... no air vents... no way for a wind to get in this room..." she thought to herself.

The chucking of a female voice confirmed her thoughts. A wind couldn't get into that room, but a person could. "Who are you! Who the hell are you!" she screamed at the nothingness. The voice seemed to come from all around her, but she couldn't figure out what was going on. Her face reddened and she struggled against her bonds with renewed strength.

"That won't do you any good, dearie. They don't work like that," the voice mocked. Slowly, right in front of her, she saw a cloud of code begin to form... deep black code. It rose backwards up from the floor, collecting itself slowly as it let off an eerie black dust that coursed across the floor. Slowly the black mass began to form the outline of a woman made of ashes... a woman wearing a long dress that reached the ground but only came up to her chest and showed off her expansive bosom and well toned chest. The woman's eyes slowly cracked open, revealing two purple irises that narrowed upon Valexia's form on the floor. Slowly, the wind blew against the figure, the ashes falling slowly backwards to reveal a beautiful woman standing in front of her... the figure of Lady Return.

"You *CENSORED*! What the hell is this!" she yelled at Return. The Lady in Mourning shrugged as she moved one of her gloved hands through her hair and smirked with her deep purple lips.

"What is this? This is me retrieving a... souvenir. I found you to be quite the cute one," Return chuckled, leaning down towards her and showing off more of her chest than Valexia would have liked to see.

"Do you know who I am? I'm an unlimit! I could crash through these bonds in a second! I could kill you without even thinking about it! I can destroy you!" Valexia screamed. Return simply waved one of her gloved fingers in response and let out a "tsk tsk".

"No, no dear. I think not. Those bonds are... well... made for a girl of your calibur. And, well, your little 'unlimit' powers... I wouldn't go there darling. Those have been known to have 'accidental failures'. Or didn't Anome tell you about those yet?"

Valexia looked down at the ground, letting the code leak onto it. Return let out a small hrmph and stood back up to loom over the woman again. "I'll take your silence as a no. Let's just say that I found one of your buddies falling from the Kalt Corporation Headquarters to his death very amusing. I didn't even think redpills could be killed by falls..."

Return turned around and put her hands behind her back. She put her head down and let the one lash of her white hair fall over her right eye as she turned left to offer Valexia a profile of her posture. "I guess you 'unlimits' proved me quite wrong. Redpills can die from falls."

"You *CENSORED*... what the hell..." Valexia muttered. "What do you want with me?"

Return turned back around, keeping her hair where it was, letting her posture intimidate the lady before her. "I brought you here to tell you a story, and give you a chance at life. Very generous of me, if I do say so myself. I could have killed you back at that base... but just be glad I spared your life for the time being."

"And what story do you think I would want to hear?"

"No story at all, my dear. But, you're not in a position to choose what you want to hear... and that's the reason I brought you here. Choice."

"Choice?"

"You hear it all the time. You chose the redpill. You chose the vial. You chose Anome. You once chose Niobe. You chose your weapon. You chose your path in life. You chose your job once... You chose perhaps a love of your life. But do you really know what choice is? Hmm? Do you?"

Valexia looked up for a brief moment, looking out with her glowing green eyes from under her brown hair at Return as she paused for a moment. "That wasn't a rhetorical question... dear. Do you know what choice is?"

"Yes."

"Wrong. I doubt you could fully comprehend the power of choice. For as much as you use it... you do not fully comprehend it. The Merovingian once said that there are two people in the world. 'Those who have power, and those who do not.' I fully agree with that statement. However, the Merovingian made one fatal flaw when he made that statement, and that is, simply, choice. Choice leads to power, or it will lead you to no power.

"But once we get into choice we get into the problems of right and wrong... And that infamous expression of 'The Right'. Tell me... do I have the right to hold you hostage here?"

"Of course not."

"'Of course not.' she says... My my, aren't you just full of witty comebacks. No dear, I have the full right to hold you here. I have the right to hold you because I made the choice to hold you here."

"What the..."

"You do not understand? As I said when I began my speech... I knew you wouldn't. You use choice every day, but you do not understand it."

"...You're a freakin' psycho."

"Perhaps, but that does not change the fact that I am right. And once we get into this area of choice... we reach freedom. Freedom... it was promised to us when we were all 'freed' from the Matrix. We never escaped. We're always trapped within a system of some sort... virtual and otherwise... Society is filled with systems to instill control on those of us who cannot realize the rights we have. Some say it is for the best... and I can agree.

"Systems are brought about not to be used properly. They exist to prevent total chaos, but yet chaos will always exist. Just like good and evil will always exist. You cannot have all good. You cannot have all control. On the same hand, you cannot have all evil... you cannot have all chaos. From every system, there is a way to manipulate it to benefit you. And benefits cannot come about when there is nothing but chaos...

"So, you sit there, in your little 'unlimit society' and think you're breaking away from the Matrix. You think you're doing everything you ever wanted... you think you have untold power. And, tonight, in one blow, I have proved you wrong. You do not have the power to escape me. You do not have the power to control outside factors. You do not have the power to overthrow Anome... and you do not have the power to escape being ordered around."

"So why the hell am I here? For your crazy *CENSORED* to preach to me?" she screamed.

Return sighed and turned around, facing the door again and looking down once again. "I brought you here to show you true power. I brought you here to give you power... the power of choice... the power to control your destiny this evening. Answer my question, and I will let you free."

Valexia looked up right at Return and focused her eyes. "All right. Tell me it."

"Who has the right to decide the future? Who has the right to control what happens? Quite simply, who has the right to control fate itself?"

Valexia concentrated for a moment and smirked. "No one can control fate."

A gun barrel clicked and Valexia's eyes went wide. "Wrong dear. And here's the proof." Return turned to the side quickly and pointed her Augmented Redpill Special right at Valexia's nose.

The shot echoed throughout the empty hallways of the floor, and Valexia's body hit hard against the floor, twitching with green electricity as her eyes slowly went out. Return smirked to herself and closed her eyes. "I can control fate because I choose to control fate."

Return put her gun back into it's holster inside of her right sleeve and slowly moved her hand to her left sleeve. Slowly she pulled a Blood Rose from it, red blood trickling down her arm and onto the floor. She pressed down on one of the thorns and a sharp metal needle shot from the end of the stem, during the rose into a living dart. She unfolded a note that she was keeping in the space between her breasts and read it one last time before she stuck it to Valexia's stomach using the Rose Needle.

"Dear Anome - Your followers are just as foolish as you are. And, by the way... apparently you aren't unlimited in power. Her body proves it.

Return closed her eyes and smirked as her lower half began to decompile into black ashes, black smoke, and code. "They'll never learn... none of them..." she murmured as she turned around to the door and slowly vanished into nothingness.

The blood red rose on their collars was the first thing that attracted attention to the peddlers downtown. They stood at various corners of the Historic District, passing their white and red flyers to whomever passed, bluepill or redpill or exile. Most of the scraps of paper ended up in the streets, blowing around aimlessly, but some made their mark on the populace.

It wasn't long before the mysterious people in sunglasses and trenchcoats began to appear, asking specifically for flyers that were being given to everyone. The peddlers quickly obliged, handing sometimes five or six to these redpills, "so that they could give them to their friends".

"What do you think it means?" one of the various redpills asked his partner.

His partner just sighed and raised the sunglasses on his face, revealing his green irises and letting them take in the entire flyer. "It means Blood Rose is looking for a reason for their chaos."

"Blood Rose?" the other redpill asked, obviously clueless.

"I'll let you slide this time, Kalak. You only got awoken two weeks ago, but you should have heard their name by now. Simply put, they are twisted. Twisted enough to each be exiled from Zion permanently."

"But... why?"

"Uniqueness and a quest for power is their excuse. The truth is, they are sadistic. All of them. All they want is a reason to cause destruction and raise chaos, nothing more. They all take pleasure in acts of war, whether it be assassinations, thefts, propaganda, lies... you name what you want, and they'll deliver it to you. They could be called mercenaries... but not even mercenaries are as psychopathic as this group."

However... when the Merovingian wants something done they'll usually listen unless it means something bad for them. You can easily recognize them. They wander around either holding roses, or a have a rose somewhere on their clothing. The really insane ones carry roses that are coded to constantly bleed... there's some rumor to those flowers being tools, but they're just rumors."

EDIT: My one sentence looked kinda confusing now that I re-read my post. I wanted to say that if you level coder, you don't have to pay the vendor prices, which are all overpriced. Making your own abilities always costs alot less than the vendor price.

I also agree, levelling Coder is a very very good idea. Sure, you have to pay out more $i for it, but the upside is that during the endgame you can make all of your own abilities.

There is a certain point where vendors stop selling ability codes because they get to be too high level. At that point, you would need to go to a player coder anyway to get those final moves for your tree. However, if you yourself are a coder, you can just simply go to yourself. SMILEY

Plus, like everyone else said, sure you have to pay out some $i to level up coder, but you save so much money in buying abilities that it most likely levels itself out.

The one great thing about this game is how fast you can change classes. Don't be afraid to experiment, and don't feel like you're stuck in one class forever. You're not. I'm a duelist, kung-fu grandmaster, and master shadow. I can switch between the three as I please, although I like to re-arrange my stats via a stat hack before I do any class switching.

Number two: Marketplace has been, is, and always will be broken. Most of it doesn't work, and the parts that do work are tenuous at best. Use it for general shopping, but if you really need something either use a vendor or ask here on the boards in our marketplace forum. Someone will be happy to help you out.

The red code frags, by the way, are "rare" frags. You can only get them from drops or from buying them from other players. Later abilities can only be coded if you have one of these puppies. So they are uber, uber important in later times.

If you have ANY questions, like Aqua said, he'll help you out or I'll be glad to lend ya a hand through the basics of coding. It looks really complex, but trust me, it's not. I can prove that by telling you that I figured it out. SMILEY

If it wasn't for the huge gap in his teeth and the lisp... then I would say yes, he does bear some resemblance to Jack Black.

I really didn't think [Adult Swim] (yes, the brackets are mandatory) could come up with a new show that had the same funny power as Aqua Teen Hunger Force did or the same quirky humor that Sealab 2021 could produce. Especially not after they started airing Family Guy and Futurama. To boot, I was really sad to hear that Brendon Small wasn't going to continue his "Home Movies" series, especially because I really did enjoy most of the episodes, although some areas had a tendency to fall flat.

However, I didn't think Brendon's next series was going to be so freakin' hilarious.

If you are squeamish, or afraid of blood and gore... well... this probably isn't for you but it's still freakin' hilarious and you should watch it anyway.

Any band who's bass player is named "William Murderface Murderface Murderface" is awesome. Not to mention the fact that Murderface can play a bass solo with his... um... let's just say it's not his hands or his feet.... or his mouth. That only leaves one organ left.

Anyway, yeah, it's hilarious. Can't really be explained until you watch it. Go watch it. Now.

Yeah, holding the platform seems to be the hard part. Last night, me, Vasav, Mataru, Pltchaos, Stanislava, UnholyDesire, Bhurn, RigPa, Oops, Sasho, Sallo... I'm missing one of the other Siren girls, I know it... but... I can't think as it's 11 AM in the morning... but anyway a bunch of us Merovingians attempted to take the platform. We're not that coordinated (as we found out) and we don't have TS to enhance our communication, but we did take the platform from The Collective & Friends. Of course, that lasted a grand total of 30 seconds before they all respawned while we were trying to fight the taskmaster and they kicked us out again. So, in otherwords, I totally agree. Taking the platform is the easy part. Holding it is the "bang your head against the wall" part.

During the creation of DA, Coraxian and I chose our organization. We didn't want to be Zion, but we were unsure of who to be... Merv or Machines.... So we did the best decision making maneuver we could come up with. A decision making maneuver that's scientifically proven to work and get great results everytime.....
