Community General Discussion Things I've learned from my time at The Matrix Online. Things I've learned from my time at The Matrix Online. Aquilae 0 04/08/2009 23:09

1. Stun 2.0

2. Don't worry about fixing the net code. IBM's On Demand servers will get the job done.

3. Code the game then design it.

4. Step one, start with a nice website to promote your game. Have it easy to navigate, nice to look at and overall reflects the product you're trying to promote. Step two, redesign the site with a random three color template system (green, grey, and black) and fill most of it up with a long list news that may be irrelivent later on. Step three, redesign the site again in such a way that the index site should be generic as possible and have it links the user to to a completely different (and still poorly) designed site for news, live events and what else.

5. When running an event in high lag conditions, go ahead and spawn that extra group of npcs.

6. Having the severs crash all the time does not reflect the quality of the game.

7. Redesign the UI at least three times for good luck.

8. Slow down the player's progress with the game by litterally slowing down the players. Five minutes in the mission area should do the trick.

9. For a game that is based on an ever-changing world, make it hard to have that change.

10. Last kill wins.

11. /random wins.

12. Stun 2.0 wins.

13. Limit the amount of different clothing the database can handle. Then blame the economy.

14. Have all lv ~50 npc characters have white hair and cheap clothes. Except for that red head. She's special.

15. Don't worry of answering four year questions from a story (Giving up Neo's remains, Morpheus, etc...). Chances are their won't be a story in four years.

16. Create a combat system.

16-b. Great! Now that you have a combat system basically coded, let's design it!

16-c. Found that your design's not working as attended? Just add a few abilities and hope that will work itself out.

17-d. Almost done? On second thought forget 16-c and let's start over from scratch.

18. Giving out special clothing is a nice way to say 'thanks' to all beta players for helping out to test the game. Planing to give them out to everybody else after a month is a nice way to kick them in the...

19. People stuff their weapons and clothing and pills and wooden stakes and holy water in drawers.

20. 45% of gangs spend time in office buildings.

  Final season starts Friday. *excited*

I think Roslin is the last of the Final Five. Starbuck returns as a clone from her overy and Galactica is the only star ship that makes it out of the battle.

The Lounge Off-Topic Discussion Copying legally purchased music for personal use is now ILLEGAL Copying legally purchased music for personal use is now ILLEGAL Aquilae 0 12/31/2007 10:18
In legal documents in its federal case against Jeffrey Howell, a Scottsdale, Ariz., man who kept a collection of about 2,000 music recordings on his personal computer, the industry maintains that it is illegal for someone who has legally purchased a CD to transfer that music into his computer.

The industry's lawyer in the case, Ira Schwartz, argues in a brief filed earlier this month that the MP3 files Howell made on his computer from legally bought CDs are "unauthorized copies" of copyrighted recordings.

"I couldn't believe it when I read that," says Ray Beckerman, a New York lawyer who represents six clients who have been sued by the RIAA. "The basic principle in the law is that you have to distribute actual physical copies to be guilty of violating copyright. But recently, the industry has been going around saying that even a personal copy on your computer is a violation."

RIAA's hard-line position seems clear. Its Web site says: "If you make unauthorized copies of copyrighted music recordings, you're stealing. You're breaking the law and you could be held legally liable for thousands of dollars in damages."

The Lounge Off-Topic Discussion former RFZ/AR/MMORadio djs former RFZ/AR/MMORadio djs Aquilae 0 12/07/2007 19:13
So I just found out out that MMORadio closed down last spring.

>.>

But I haven't heard from them since they took over Awakened Radio....

Anyway

Anybody remember what ever became to our beloved djs from way back? Circa, GodofFire, 3L33T3, etc...

My fondest memories was listening to RFZ while playing Painkiller and MxoBeta. That was a blast.
The Lounge Off-Topic Discussion Live Free or Die Hard Live Free or Die Hard Aquilae 0 07/01/2007 09:06
Saw it on opening day. I haven't seen the first two but this one was great though I felt that the ending was sort of thrown together  Well worth seeing it if you don't take action scenes seriously.

[spoiler]

The scene with the jet fighter attacking on the freeway was way far fetched. But it did look cool. Also thought it was pretty weird that they used toll booths to launch the car into the helicopter. There's no tollbooths in DC.

Pretty sad at the lack of professionalism there. Make sure know what they're doing when your getting car checked.
Support Forums General Technical Help and Questions BIOS not recognizing HDD BIOS not recognizing HDD Aquilae 0 07/14/2006 16:44
I connected the hard drive to the SATA1 slot on my Asus mobo and to the
PSU. I turned on the computer, went to BIOS set the HDD to first boot
priority, and reset the computer.

If I go straight to BIOS again, it doesn't read it on the main screen. If I let it run, I get a disk boot error.

Any ideas?

I loved the games and it looks like the movie is based on the first one
(which I can't even play in the dark). And it's not directed by Uwe
Boll.

Community Residual Self-Image Picture Addition - Debir Court Picture Addition - Debir Court Aquilae 0 03/08/2006 19:14

It's simple. Take the picture and put/paste whatever picture that is work safe you want onto it. Only one thing though. Post your new creation in the thread and let the next guy take it have his way with it. And when I mean 'way', I mean him doing the same thing - pasting a picture and submit. The end result should look a collage o crap on my beautiful picture of Debir Court. And you don't have to be a photoshop grandmaster to participate. The picture can be black & white or be a different rez. so it doesn't have to look realistic or anything.

Rules

1. Make sure the picture you use is work/school safe. Otherwise everybody is going to do it and then it's going to look nasty and nobody wants to see it.

2. Make sure your picture doesn't take up the entire picture. If your granny can't tell it's Debir Court, then your picture is too big. You loose. You're off the team. Or until you find something thats more suitable.

Here's the picture...

Have fun.

I was fighting Bob, and I wasn't able to put away my gun until I killed him.

Community General Discussion If you had one day to reign over MxO.... If you had one day to reign over MxO.... Aquilae 0 12/04/2005 20:24

If Smith gets the rule The Matrix, then we should too.

If I did....

1.) Gameplay

I would make all the servers hostile for a full day of pvp. Instead of
hours of fun programming, the devs will *gasp!* actually play the game
with us. They will be easily indintified by SOE tags and they will be
in costume like they did in Beta. Because you know, nothing says thank
you from the community by beating them in their own game. All the orgs
will be their own side so it will be Zion VS Machine VS Merovingian VS
Cyperites VS the armies of the General. You can choose any side you
want. Each side will have a Commander leading their organization so it
would be like Morpheus leading Zion, Merovingian leading the exiles,
etc.

The gameplay will be like Domination. When the round starts, each Org.
will rule a certain part of Mega City. There will be only one hardline
per district. The object is to take over districs by tapping hardlines.
If you tap the hardline, your Org. can spawn there as long it's not
tapped by another Org. The Org. who taps all the hardlines or most in a
certain amount of time wins the round.

As for prizes for winning the round, there will be a list of costumes
to choose from. You get to choose one costume you want for winning a
round. If you loose around, you'll get currency known as 'bling'. Save
enough 'bling' and you can get still costume you want. How well your
Org. did per round determines how much 'bling' the team recieves. This
is because if your Org looses a lot, you'll still get a reward for
trying. Orgs who go into a winning streak (win 3 rounds or more) will
get more rare prizes such as having a few round of having all abilites
unlocked or some random happenings to your rsi.

And then there will be some moments will some unlucky kid spontaneously
catches the fire virus. But that won't happen very often.

2.) Graphics

Instead of that dull sky....you know that visualization Windows Media
Player does when it's not playing music? You know, where all these
random colors and shapes go mix together? It will be like that. And
when night comes, it will be just like how we did that Halloween event.
But you'll still see the city lights like in real life.

3.) Celebraty Deathmatch - MxO Edition!

You know, never has a day come by where I wake up, start MxO and think
to myself, "Man, I do hope that the Oracle will kick some *CENSORED* today."
Seriously. Nothing will put a smile on my face as much as seeing the
Oracle kick some guy's *CENSORED* with her Kung Fu. You know, being the Oracle
and everything, you would think she knows <i>]some</i> Kung Fu moves. So
why not have your favorate (...or actually... my favorate) characters
go head to head in the the most gruesome, violent, pain wrenching, raw,
uncensored fight known to man?

Because it will make me happy.

4.) Friends

What will my friends and I do while you guys are at the rat races? Glad
you asked. We'll take over Club Hel where the Merovingian personally
will serve us punch and pie. Then we'll kick *CENSORED* once we feel like it.

(Flood will take over commanding Merv's Org  if Merv is unavailible)

And I'll be in the back in the hotub with Tyndall and Ookami while
being served the best cake and egg nogg known to man by Agent Pace and
Persephone.

5.) Misc.

By know I know what you and more likely Walrus and the rest of the devs
thinking: "Man, chances are better with me going out with a Hollywood
celebraty than having this moron having a freaking field day with this
game." And that's probably true. It may never happen. But if I learned
anything from the Matrix it's this: Believe the Unbelievable. Now
suddenly, my chances is now 100 to 1!

So don't worry. It's not impossible - just inevitable.
