Both of you deserve to be applauded for the effort you gave. I was especially impressed by Harkee remaining as a LO when Trep went. That took courage: it must have been a daunting and lonely time...

Thank you both for enchancing the gaming experience for me and many, many others. The greatest change which your arrival gave me was the accessibility you provided us; signing up to the concept of the ZIC, regular org meetings, even some prior notice of upcoming events! Your good intentions "shone through" your comments... and your omissions!

Now that was more prophetic than even Johnny realised!

Since we certainly won't be getting a Halloween event ever again, let's just bring it forward and "flick the switch" at 23.59 hours June 30th: my understanding is that we will be left to our own devices from then anyway.

How about that, huh?

I still have that LESIG.1 list somewhere, but I won't post it as I remeber what happened to the thread where it originally appeared!

I agree that it would be nice to know who were behind the characters who we all enjoyed interacting with. I also think that, if this information is released, it should be made publicly available (rather than PM); so that we all get to show our appreciation.

However, I think this request has been made too early. You might find that we get a chart produced by the begining of July, or whenever LESIG2 decide that they are finally ending service.

There was no indication that an exchange would take place (just a system message once it had happened) and no obvious means to prevent it ((no flagging)). What are we meant to do, barrack her from getting near a Cypherite operative whenever she appears within the simulation?!!

If I were to guess your org, I'd go with Merv from the font of your sig.

If you've found this section, then I'm sure you've already looked at this thread.

TBH, a faction will sometimes keep RPs "in-house" and they might never appear on these boards. However, there has to be a few faction members regularly on, in order to generate the RP in the frist place.

If you add your Syntax handle to this thread, may be some RPers will invite you to their RPs and you can opt for a faction by judging the quality and variety of RP they offer? I'll keep a look out for you when I'm on.

It's a shame, really.

I've only made it to level 5, but its such a nice change of pace so far.  I don't have any idea what the endgame is like, but so far, with a little love and some polish this could be (and so far is) a really deep immersive game.

To me, this universe holds a lot of potential in that it has such an open storyline.  Since the world is based on code and isn't real, the sky is really the limit as far as new content that could be added.  This is also true of another MMO that I play, and they have really taken that as an advantage.  The fantasy based games, in my opinion, not so much.

The players and community in the "other MMO" that I play, have been very good at taking the content given to them and stretching it and finding interesting ways to make content within the content.  Last night I was running missions for Mercury and a couple of RPers were doing just that.

It was nice to have some interesting dialogue to read between missions.  So far it seems like the community is strong despite "being forgotten and unloved".  I am interested to see what lies in store.

This one speaks sense: he recognises the virtues of the game, yet avoids labouring on the absences. May be we could all do with viewing this world afresh, and appreciate some of the treasures on offer...?

To the team RP'ing the Mecury missions: Bravo! MxO will not die whilst such creativity lives! *applaudes*

But wouldn't making a new version of each mask diminish the "specialness" of the actual Halloween masks? To run around as Merv/Veil/Oracle etc. on a daily basis would seem a bit weird from an RP standpoint but it wouldn't hurt the game any. But if it does then why not just unlock the more "discreet" masks such as Tengu, TM, etc. and leave the Merv's and Seraph's locked except for Halloween?

Right, I'm all about consistancy....like, you can be Lupin but not Ethereal 1....You can be Jezebeth but not a Succubus....you can be Captain Raeder/Danielle Smith/Elite Commado Leader but you cant be Tengu/Gargy/Taskmaster, you can be Ko but you can't be Dr. Extractia.   I support leveling the playing field in this manner.  And I'm not worried about the Marketplace, it might actually spur some more activity.  Lastly as I've said before it won't require more than the tiniest amount of dev work since no actual ingame items are created.

I have no issue with the masks you mention: I agree that consitency is the key.

The Marketplace is not my main concern either, but the ease by which these masks were previously obtained would lead to a prevelance of them, should the Halloween "toggle" be permanently switched on. This could actually destroy their RP value, as they would become common-place.

Lets also be realistic about the value of this proposed change: can anyone cite me a good example of the currently available masks being used for an RP purpose? Would this dramatically change with the release of additional masks?

Shinryu wrote:

I personally see nothing wrong with unlocking all of the existing masks, and the only issue I see with it is that some story characters would be "playable" and some would not.  Better would be to unlock them ALL, including  the previously dev/mod only ones.

But, if the concern is the "new" storyline character masks making the Halloween versions less special, then the option could simply be to use the different outfit for the character as the "year round" version.  *Wet* Seraph for Halloween, normal Seraph year round. *Ill* Persephone for Halloween, normal red/white dress Persephone year round.  Etc.  Assuming we actually get a Halloween event this year with new masks, this theme could be continued as every story character has 2 different outfits.  Make one the year round version available now, make the other a special version collectable only during Halloween.  Of course, all of this would require more work than simply having someone flip the "mask on" switch to make them all work all the time.

I couldn't disagree more. This is a defeatist attitude which allows SOE to justify never reinstating a LET. May be that's an unrealistic attitude and I will be told to "Wake up, Neo." but I am also a supporter of identifying an advantage to any change to be made. Let's see...

This suggestion has been started in a drive towards allowing us to continue the MxO story and to improve the potential for RP: you don't need to PvP in an Oracle mask.

I predict that unlocking the "main" character masks would simply make us susceptable to God-Modding and make us prone to less reputable types who could completely ruin the surviving RP community. Danielle Wright was a previous interacting character within the Live Events; has her mask been used in any worthwhile manner, as yet?

The only compromises I would offer would be for LESIG to be given access to these masks; on application to the Devs and lasting the duration of one log-in. Or they could be offered as reward items, in a similar style to the Perp FX.

Rofl. You can add to that list Phiberglas and sShoWTimEe who are usually in perma sneak, even with no hint of PvP about.

When only 2 or 3 around in pvp, MKT does have some better options, but in a major pvp battle hackers will do much better imo. Best is the "GF" you get in pvp against 3 MKT's.

Croesis:

Yeah, point taken. The difference is that Mechs hold a larger and more managed infrastructure; where they can call upon numbers (aka bananaphone), to rout an imbalance in numbers against them.

I can't remember the last time I was called to help out with PvP at Mara, or invited to team when multiple Zionites are present. May be it's because I've been ostracised by other Zionites (!), but I would suggest it's because we lack the Mech organisation as above.

Mindsweep:

"GF" is like water off a duck's back for these types: they even get-off on it!

To be honest, it is their subscription money and I guess they can spend it however they wish. I only hope that they realise that they actually stifle protracted PvP by their actions. People are quickly deterred from continuing with PvP, when faced with insurmountable numbers. I suppose it depends on what you hope to get out of PvP, as to how you act...

I've become increasingly disillusioned with PvP recently: what you fail to quantify is the 2 or 3 Mechs who are perma-stealthed at Mara and waiting for the unwary. But, otherwise your assessment is accurate. I could stat hack to MKT and become one of the "sneaky" ranks, but then I would simply be adding to the problem.

For me, the only enjoyable PvP is when there is a sense of balance to the sides: when all fighters hold some risk as to whether they will survive the fight. Instead, players now treat it like a CQ farm and will wait endlessly for the chance of killing a lone fighter who attempts to break the impasse.

Whilst the number of those standing around might give the impression that you could rely on support, the truth is far from this. Fair enough, there is structure to Mech PvP. But if this isn't reflected by the opponents, it all becomes a pointless exercise.

I would add to the advice of heading to Vector, to avoid the spectators.

I agree with the idea of consistency in the hideout bosses/PBs etc, though I'm not so sure about everyone being able to mince around as Veil, Merv and similar.

The snag is that players may well have farmed numerous halloween masks already and we risk a flood on the marketplace were they to be simply enabled for use. Instead, it would probably be better to create a new version of each mask, which is dropped by the NPCs following the update.

It seems like this company is supportive of the extra "niche" business this idea has generated and might be even more accomodating, should it be suggested.

May be they might offer a delivery service where the MxO community could purchase a box of "Red pills" online and they would dispatch them directly to SOE with the applicable copy of Phrack's letter! This would be in a similar vein to a Valentines delivery of flowers and accompanying note.

When you make the purchase, they'll ask where you want them shipped to. If you're sending it directly to SOE headquarters attn: John Smedley and you want to add anything to the shipment (i.e. a letter, for example), that would be an extra favor on the part of this jelly bean manufacturer.

For a little extra cash, they might even put the Red Pill Alliance logo on the bags. This would increase the lead time for delivery, though.

That's exactly what I mean. Phrack (for example) could negotiate an agreement that they would attach a letter (and possibly brand the jellybeans as you suggest), then they wouldn't find the request so bizarre and could standardize the practice. It would also make the whole process far more user-friendly for Euro-players, and might persuade more to participate.

The Lounge Matrix Universe What was Morpheus's name? Re:What was Morpheus' name? Coro 0 02/19/2009 06:00

Daniel is a part mythical, part historical figure who interpreted the dreams of Nebuchadnezzar. Daniel was also the successor to the character of Morpheus in the Neil Gaiman graphic novels. Dream of The Endless was printed by DC Comics and featured Dream/Morpheus as the principle character. He eventually "died" and was replaced by a character called Daniel Hall, who then inherited the name of Dream. They shared very similar powers and were described as being different views of the same subject.

Is Daniel the first name of Morpheus?

There is nothing to suggest that the Bluepill name of Morpheus was Daniel. Morpheus is most likely to have used the name "Daniel" in naming The Daniel Institute of Dream Interpretation, because of the link to dream interpretation. The whole idea of an instuitute which interprets dreams would be a useful facade for Morpheus: It accomodates the discussion of the perception of Reality; in a context which would not seem unnatural or out of place.

The Wachowski Brothers have stated that part of original inspiration for the character of Morpheus, came from Gaiman's graphic novels. Laurence Fishburne's haunting voice was said to remind them of the unique style of speech which Dream was always shown to use in the DC comics.
