I was I had just jacked in, right in the middle of Akasaka. It was a little late the rest of my crew were getting their sleep. They had gotten a workout when they were helping pltchaos rescue some girl.
Then while I was researching some old data, I got a call from Flood. I assumed it was the usual someone needed to be killed or they needed to be rescued, I wasn’t up for rescuing though. Then he brings up the subject of Niobe again. “Didn’t we have a meeting with Zion about that?” I thought to myself, remembering the last mission Flood sent me.
After I subsided my anger about Flood’s little comment. Anyway I went to see the Effectuator, the specialist in constructs apparently, as my Operator uploaded his location to me.

I had never met this Effectuator before, yet we seem to have a common interest in style.
I informed him of the business at hand.

Ah, Jameskaimuki. What a pleasant surprise! Come for some trip planning advice? No?
Oh, I see. Yes, it would seem that this whole Anome situation falls right up my alley, wouldn’t it? Maybe I could help…but what…
Of course! The Device! I really just call it that until I get a real name for it, something fancy thought up by the eggheads. The Device would be just the thing for this predicament!
There’s only one problem… the Device isn’t actually complete. It needs just one component, one little teensy tiny bit, from, say… another version of the simulation.
I’m sending the data to your operator. Flood should know who can get that for you. And if he doesn’t, he should be fired.
Before I could say another word he rushed in saying…

Have fun, and bring me whatever you “dig” up! Oh, I’m just too bad.
I didn’t really get the joke, but I don’t think anyone would. I got the call from flood as soon as I left.
Even though I was upset to be in the middle of the firefight between these 2, I sped over to Digger’s place.
I got to Digger’s in a matter of seconds. And again I was cut off.
Digger
Hey, kid. You look rushed. You want to sit down, have a drink? I’ve got this chunk of data and I think it’s from the original…
No? I figured as much. Flood filled me in on the plan. I’d love to help, but there’s one snag. The component the Effectuator needs, it’s not an easy thing to come by. I have the part but I don’t have the data key to unlock it. I do know where to find one, though. The Crushers have put their hands on what we need, and they’re looking to make someone break the bank to buy it.
That’s where you come in. I know how Flood works, with his “budget”. Funny how much mimosas seem to cost these days.
So, you’re gonna have to do some… bargain hunting. Got it? Just get that data key and bring it to me, and I’ll get you set up with the component.
I got it. I knew what this would mean so I loaded my guns as I got out of the building. Hmm the Crushers, they have been talked about a lot lately especially with McCoy taking some hardware from Zion. I expected since we were dealing with the Crushers I would have to go all the way over to the Barrens, but instead it turned out they were in Shirakaba. Flood seemed a little puzzled also.
Operator
I’ll monitor the code stream for that key while you take care of the bad guys.
I got into the area and ran across several Crushers, I suspected they wouldn’t be very happy to see me. And I was right.
Once the were all dead, looted the place looking for the key. I took a regular one of one the corpses and ran over to the safe it was in and before I knew it I was home free.
Operator
That book! That’s the key. Grab it and get out of there.
I didn’t bother with Flood’s crudeness a got to Digger.
Operator
Give the key to Digger and he should be able to get us the component.
Went right into business…
Digger
You got it kid?
I handed the book over.
Digger
Nice, very nice. Now I should be able to… yep. Check out that computer over there. Should be a disk in it. Grab that, and you’re good to go.
I took the disk and as I was heading out the door Digger made one last comment.
Digger
So… you tell Flood that if this came in helpful, someday he should set up a meeting with me and the Effectuator. I’d love to pick his brains.
Still both confused and disgusted by him I made my way to the Effectuator.
Operator
Geez, Flood’s really getting lazy.
The Effectuator should be in here, just waiting for the component on that disk.

Ah, my friend. Is that a component in your pocket, or…Ha! Oh, my.
I think the Effectuator was a bit to excited.

Fantastico! I’ll get right to work on my Device. I’ll be able to see it in action!
And you, my friend, deserve a siesta!
I did think it was my deserved reward but maybe before I left I should have told him I like luaus.
After that last transmission I started to get worried. Not about what the Device does or Niobe’s condition but maybe the fact that Flood is losing his touch. Hmm maybe he should be fired. All in due time though.
