XElite, that's very elegant and thought-out.

A lot of people in clan are interested in SW:KOTR and the TOR game; I might check that out. But this summer it'll be mostly IRL for me. Son leaving to college and all. My /play is huge, and I'll be on as much as I can through the end. I'll feel like the woman in one of the stories from years back who thought things over and decided to take the blue pill for the sake of her family.

Great quote. I like its counterpoint even more, from elsewhere in the same film, "Time is the fire in which we burn".

Was picking out each and every one of my points, and trying to rip them to shreds really necessary? The thread title is "easy and realistic" and I don't find many of these ideas those very things. Just saying. You really don't need to go all out on me, bro. I'm not even going to respond to this sort of action.
Except on this one point you made of "well I know it's not easy and realistic, but what else am I gonna call this thread?"... then why even make that point in the first place? It has no point in this thread if that's your case.
I don't need you to agree with me and change your opinion or anything, I just wanted you to understand my disagreement. Trying to debate with you about this dead game is hardly ...efficient.
Disagreeing: okay and something we see all the time around here. Personal attacks: Archangel said it best. And I'm not your bro.

Guys, I came down on his nonsense not for technical reasons. GodTier wrote: 1. This would be a horrible idea for some items that you just should not have more than one of in your inventory.
2. This is not easy nor is it realistic.
3. Why would anyone want these items to begin with? Bay and co. will probably release some new update for their "patch" that'll give you most of the rare items anyway so this is pointless.
4. Why would you do this? People trying to level up new characters for the final event would get raeped.
5. This is not easy nor is it realistic with [spoilers]no dev[/spoilers]
6. Don't need this, see Bay and co.'s patch.
They seem easy and realistic to you because you have no idea how MxO's engine/item system works nor have you ever thought about what would happen if you made these changes and just went ahead and made yet another thread about this.
Guys, I came down on his nonsense not for technical reasons. And if you read his post, you'll see most of it is not technical. Let's have a guided tour of the verbal dungeon: GodTier: This would be a horrible idea for some items that you just should not have more than one of in your inventory.
Hello? Not technical, pure judgment call on deciding how others should be able to play. If I want four of five PB4s, what's it to him? Godtier: Why would anyone want these items to begin with? Bay and co. will probably release some new update for their "patch" that'll give you most of the rare items anyway so this is pointless. This is technical? "Why would anyone want these items to begin with"? In fact people have wanted stuff like the Glimmer of the Source, blue frags, Assassin's Masks since the beginning. Being able to see them exclusively on your client is not the same. What's wrong with wanting them? And it's not technical. Godtier: Why would you do this? People trying to level up new characters for the final event would get raeped. Not technical! Few people are trying to level. Many people would like to go back and re-visit old sites, and others have already voiced this idea. Honestly, stop coming down on what other people like to do! Godtier: This is not easy nor is it realistic with [spoilers]no dev[/spoilers] Indeed no devs. But calling the ideas "Easy and Realistic" is more likely to get attention than calling them "Arduous and Impractical". Godtier: Don't need this, see Bay and co.'s patch. Others are asking for whole districts! Archangel's asking for new trees (Zen Master, anyone?)! So what's wrong with seconding a desire already articulated by others? Godtier: They seem easy and realistic to you because you have no idea how MxO's engine/item system works nor have you ever thought about what would happen if you made these changes and just went ahead and made yet another thread about this. Anyone can express a desire for things they'd like to see. I suppose, GT, you'd prefer to see this whole *development roundtable* forum closed? I mean, why bother? Well maybe that's your personal style that you bring to games. But if there are technical or logistical reasons why these things cannot be, feel free to cite them, based on your own experience with MMORPG architcture and programming. But lay off with inane personal attacks based on nothing more than different stylistic preferences. Try to take Archangel's words to heart.

1. Remove "singleton" status from all items. 2. Make all items emailable across servers. 3. Give everyone two Translocation Programs to get Awakening Shades and Awakening Jackets. 4. Open up all constructs to all levels. 5. Add one collector (or awesomely buff Lolipor) to sell event items, from Bloue Sky shirts to Smith Brownies. 6. Unlock Halloween masks (repeat because it is so good). Ideas 1-3 and 6 seem pretty easy to a non-expert like me. I know I'm dreaming. But soon we will all sleep the big sleep, and I'm trying to get used to the idea.

- Sometimes I was surprised at what emerged when I roleplayed; there was self-understanding in that. It's been enlightening. - I got into trance music from listening to some of the ingame radios; it's been invigorating. - I saw into my children's culture and mindset from interacting with many of you; it's been invaluable to me. - It was good practice in manipulating and mindgames; it's been intriguing. - I started my first blog from writing about MxO; it's been liberating. I've met people I'll always remember for bettter or for worse, but that's true of any five-year span in your life. Or it should be.

Mind you, there's nothing wrong with being all about making money. Look at Blizzard! You know Walrus, I can go old school on you. Like, how Darbacour kicked your butt in the GM fights in Beta and thats the real reason. You were ashamed of yourself and ever since then could not come to gripes with talking to the community after that.
When I saw the beta players trashing the game's overlords...I had to wonder if someone was asleep at the wheel. Or just driving while distracted. It was kind of shocking, really. To me, anyway.

I would like to know what was so taxing about being a council member? I remember being a council member for SC during the time period of about a year and found there to be issues that crop up, but none that were particularly time consuming. I'd like to gain some kind of insight.
Well, I have to go back and think now. Some of the things that kept me from more "game" involvement during my three years or so as a clan council member (CM): - Interviewing and discussing applications, because great people have always been the ultimate resource in this game. - Managing conflicts and competition with other guilds, and creating new ways to compete where others have been weak. - Working to encourage our people and also nurture new leadership talent. - Looking for people I wanted in our clan, and creating ways to encourage that notion in them. - Mediating discussion and discord within my clan, and trying to persuade others. I'm not claiming I was always successful in this, Yasamuu, by any means. But this is where my thoughts often were ingame, and it's how I approached my role as a council member. And of course I'm only speaking for myself this evening, and would not claim to be representing my fellow CMs in describing my own approach, or saying this is how anyone else should approach it. There are lots of examples of very different approaches having been very successful.

After looking at my /play time on Recursion, I feel like I got a lot from this world of ours, and feel mostly gratitude. In the game itself, I wish I had had more time for the ingame events, LESIG and otherwise. But being a council member took up a lot of time. But I learned so much from it that I cannot regret it very seriously. I was one of the first wave of LESIG, but clan life and homelife kept me from doing much, and I eventually asked Rarebit to withdraw me from it and give my place to someone with more time to commit. I wish I had been able to do more. That's enough candour for one evening.

If you just want snow without the patch, Here's the TSEC list: http://bayamos.systematic-chaos.net/TSEC.txt To turn on snow for say, Richland, goto /resource/final_world/slums_barrens_full.metr, open it in a hex editor. Near the beginning you'll see TSEC on the right hand side. A bit after that you'll see the hex 80 1D D1 00 38
which is the default Richland TSEC. Replace that with your choice of one of these (for different snowfall): winter1: 80 0C 00 00 DC winter2: 80 10 00 00 DC winter3: 80 17 00 00 DC
and save the file, and you'll have snow. LetsRock, I explained weather in The Guide, you should read that. Long story short, one replaces weather by either editing a TSEC value in a .metr file, or by telling the RezMap to load TSEC A instead of TSEC B.

In the brief time remaining to us, what are some must-dos that come to mind? I have a few: 1. Learn FRAPS to make some videos to run as background on my Vista Ultimate computer. 2. Get the music backgrounds used in the game. 3. Get many screenshots of sunsets, when the slight reddish timbre adds such moody beauty to scenes downtown and in Chinatown. Datamine, too. 4. Run a few, very selected Neighborhood Contact missions (Mr. Po immediately comes to mind, followed by Rose and The Chef) to get screenshots of the great text. 5. Try (and record) a few new emotes. 6. Commiserate with Omega.

Sony Online Entertainment and Warner Brothers hold the copyrights for The Matrix Online stories and data so creating a fan owned and operated emulated MxO server would be against those copyrights. However, the above renders irrelevant your citation of the old, old box. WB is almost never mentioned in these discussions, and is largely a passive (I would suggest passive-aggressive) co-owner.
On request of access to high-resolution images etc of MxO for use in creating an advertising campaign for MxO I got this responce from Virrago... Our marketing department isn't allowed to grant you anything since we don't own the MxO brand. It seems you would have to talk to WBIE. You blamed SOE for not doing anything with the Matrix gaming IP and not letting any of the players do anything with it when in-fact they do not own it at all acording to the marketing department.
In fact, according to Raijinn they do. If you're emailing Virrago about an advertising campaign, then that response pre-dates Raijinn's later, and more up-to-date observations on exactly the same subject. And even if it were accurate, you would have mentioned it in your first response. And what a perfect example of my blog's last point about the community. Many thanks!

And a big shout out to the addled moron behind “nerfocelot”." Uhh, what? What are you talking about? No player ever had access to the admin console. Rarebit left voluntarily due to personal issues and wasn't fired. And he already made his leaving announcement BEFORE nerfocelot was running around. Prior to nerfocelot, SOE had no idea of any sort of admin permissions issue. "And anyone who’s tried to read 9mmfu’s Delphic posts will agree that communications has never been one of the qualities associated with the MxO team." So if only 9mmfu had opened a spellchecker, MXO would have been saved? Rarebit spent years and literally hundreds of pages with ask the devs explaining nearly every question players had. What was there left for devs to tell us? If after five years you don't know what the buffs on your clothes do, that's not their fault. It's yours. And the “CSR”s who run amok like Brewko, did little to encourage us. His captious, fractious, and flat-out wrong bannings were so irrational, so misguided, and so whimsical that I was frequently aghast. When I went to FanFaire, the CSRs there said Brewko doesn't have the authority to actually ban people. Bannings are made through a chain of command and not by any one CSR. I'll take a few bad decisions anyday when you consider the ticket volume they get -- sometimes in the thousands per day. “The community” was one of the reasons people endlessly trotted about when challenged as to why they stayed in the game. Now, looking back, I wonder what they were smoking. Where’s the community? Members of your faction had a thriving culture based off of LESIG leaks, so it's baseless to try to take any high ground and spout rhetoric about the degredation of the community. If there's blame to go around for the death of MXO, everyone gets some.
Bayamos, my respect for you, never small, has only grown with the awesome tools you’ve been recently sharing. Let me respectfully, then, respond to some of your points. - Nerfocelot. You and I each write in response to accounts we have heard, and these accounts differ. If Nerf(s) or Rarebit or Walrus would like to set the record straight, excellent! Until then, I acknowledge your different take on this. Nonetheless, you are dwelling on a mere supporting example, not the main point, n'est-c pas?
- I don’t even remember misspellings in 9mmfu’s posts. Their terse, laconic quality is undeniable, and others have commented on how they often do not respond to the main point being made. Obviously they’re as clear to you as USA Today, and this only adds to my respect for you. As for the “literally hundreds of pages”…well, if the original descriptions were clear and logical, only a few pages would have been necessary. Nonetheless I respect how clearly these hundreds of pages have spoken to you. More to the point, are you arguing over a supporting detail only, or are you disagreeing about poor communications, which is, after all, the main point?
- How interesting that Brewko is now said to not be able to ban people. So it was all empty bluster and lies about banning people for allegedly robo-data-mining and standing on the awning at Mara. So I guess the choice is to characterize the behavior as unprofessional, as I have, or merely mendacious, as you have. I guess we have to make our choices about it, and I respect yours.
- Thank you for your compliment about the thriving culture of my clan. But it was not based on LESIG leaks. IMHO, it takes way more than leaks to make a clan successful. And since I made no assertions of superiority for my clan, and was writing solely about how I feel about things, I am puzzled that you project them. They seem…not germane.
On to happier subjects. Any chance of adding falling snow to the outstanding visual effects you’ve been making available? It’s always been my happiest time of year in the game.

You are absolutely right. But I just had to stop _some_where... "Brewko banned"..."Brewko banned"...let me count the ways..is there enough time left in the world?

Over on my blog, at manifoldmischief.blogspot.com, I've written some thoughts about where we are and how we got this way. My own feelings on the subject, at least. They're not here for several reasons, only one of which is their length.

Back at the end of beta, someone made a video of it, with the music from “The End” by The Doors. The same video is currently on YouTube, but with some much lesser sound track. Does anyone know where we could get the original?

Good times were had. Sad times now.
I'm glad people are remembering the good times. We had a lot. More than a lot of games ever have had. I've been rewatching the movies, too. Have a feeling I'll be doing that a lot in the months to come.
Really, I don't know where we would have been the past few years without your stewardship.

And I'm sure the management will understand and care very deeply about how we feel about this.

That might hold more weight had you stuck around during the hard times like some of us did.
I second that emotion.

I've been struggling with the Override Functions blocking Azuma. I can get one done by myself, but often another one shows up, and when I have the first one down to 10% health, the second one wipes me out with awesome Howitzer attacks. Anyone have any tips for overcoming these guys, or at least withstanding their Howitzers long enough to melee them down? Any insight would be appreciated!

Just worked fine for me too.
Besides that site, there are some great guides, and some great folks as well; feel free to post questions. I've been playing since beta, and still find this a great forum to check out.
