Yeah I too share your disappointment. I'm hopeful that the time could be bumped up to 3PM to at least accomodate us on day shift.
Heh as a West Coaster that wouldn't work for me either. I'd need 6PM PST. BUT I understand that wouldn't work for many others. That's why I'm saying it would be best to mix it up.
I'm in the same boat, unfortunately. But this has always been the case -- live events usually happened during the work day here in California, because that's when Rarebit is at work. I've only been to a handful of live events in four years of playing, and it looks like these meetings won't be any different. =(

The Trust: Building Character You may have read here on DN1 about a few of the MxO characters that make our faction such a great place to tell a story. There’s the young woman trapped in a war of wills with a malevolent Exile; the renegade captain whose weariness of war has driven him to catastrophic extremes; and the operative who, haunted by his regret, now seeks only redemption. But you might not know about the numerous other characters that belong to our faction, such as: the double agent who finds herself having second thoughts about her loyalties; the new recruit who is caught up in a series of shocking redpill murders; or the beautiful leader who is tormented by her horrific, mysterious past. Their stories are varied and diverse, but they intertwine around one common factor: The Trust. To learn more about these and other characters, visit our roleplay forums and read some of the best player-created story material in MxO. And if you have an idea for a good character with a compelling story to tell, join us!

I definitely know how you feel, Dulux; I've been there before, and I've made some observations about how it seems to work. First, players are often inspired to create stories around the characters they already know . . . but it's hard to develop a character without access to RP opportunities, and it's hard to get involved in RP without a well-established character! Second, people who design RP and player event content may be reluctant to open up the story to the broader community, and so they keep it limited to faction forums, or define it as a closed RP. We've all been to player events where at least one person makes a total jerk of themselves trying to be funny, and no one wants to risk ruining their carefully-conceived story by putting it in the hands of people who don't respect a player's hard work and effort. Unfortunately, this tends to lead to a presumption that any particular individual is not going to treat the story seriously until they prove otherwise, and the person can't really prove that they are serious until given an opportunity to participate. It's like getting turned down for a job because you don't have on-the-job experience, but how do you get on-the-job experience before getting the job? It can be frustrating. So how does a casual RP'er get involved? I suppose that Camon Central is one way to demonstrate that you'd like to participate in stories and player events. (Myself, I get bored sitting around posing like a supermodel and being all philosophizy about war, the nature of reality, blah blah blah, and this may be why Camon has sort of wound down.) I think it's more effective to just strike up relationships with people who you know as active RP'ers. Most of these people are up for on-the-spot RP, so just give them a buzz and do what Tranque does: simply come up with a backstory for running a standard mission. For example, you've just heard that a Zion courier was intercepted and the data stolen, and you need help tracking down the information and transmitting it to Control before the enemy has a chance to analyze it. Bang. You have an RP reason for running a standard "Retrieval" mission (and getting some info and potentially a Rep point), and an opportunity to do a little role-play without investing hours in crafting a backstory and plot. It can be easy as that, and it's surprisingly fun to run a standard missing with an in-character motivation for doing it. And all it takes is some initiative and a smidgen of imagination! Hit me up, Dulux, I'm sure we can come up with something, even if it's just a brief eensy-weensy little RP story.

The best that I've been able to come up with is using the disk or letter props from the prop vendors. You can't customize the props, but you can attach them to an in-game email, and put the contents of the letter in the body of the email message. Alternatively, if you want to get fancy-schmancy, you can include in the email a link to an external webpage that has an image of the letter or other content located on the web. This used to be really easy when MxO Resource had its file hosting area. It's not ideal, but there are definitely ways to work around it.

I don't know if I'm saying something you already know, but if you simply hyperjump (straight up into the air, even), the Agent will lose interest and vanish. You know what they say about discretion being the better part of valor . . .

By"aggro" I mean whom the mob attcks in a group more then a mob that jumps you as you walk by. Example: I imagine MxO has an operative class that is designed to absorb the damage whilst other classes dish out the hurt and heals. A "tank" if you will. My Sim functions as my tank or so I try. More often then not, I'll send in the Sim first, he'll get the aggro at which point I can unleash hell. Some times, the Sim keeps em busy sometimes they'll forget about it and make a beeline for me after my first shot regardless how much damage I let the Sim do before I attack. In other MMOs I've played, controlling your aggro and allowing your tanks to tank played a huge roll in groups and raids and was usually the fundimental differance between wiping and succeeding. From what I've seen so far in MxO, aggro seems a little less predictable indicating the tanks in this game would have to spam some sort of taunt to keep a mob's attention. Being different is not a bad thing, btw. " width="15" height="15" />
Yeah, I guess Vinia understood your question more accurately than I did. Haven't really played much with the proxy coder classes, so I didn't know about this. Interesting.
I knew about mob cons, but not conning for item repairs. Thanks... I guess the skill you are referring to puttings points into would be the "minor repairs" skill as it seemed to be the only one related to "repairing" that I could add points to, IIRC. In any case, I pumped everything I could to max, and could not repair a blue or green con, level 3 item at level 7. Indicating to me that I'm probably gonna need to get someone higher leveled to repair me even conning gear, huh?
Exactly, it's the little ab that looks like a wrench turning a nut, you'll want to make sure that's levelled as high as you can get it. And yes, I've definitely noticed that repairs can be sort of hit or miss, even if it's something that looks like you ought to be able to fix. Definitely try lurking moar near the signal boosters and getting your hands on buffed clothes. In addition, make sure there are purity dots remaining on the item - if it's out of purity, it's beyond repair and you'll have to decomp it and re-code it. Lastly, if you're on Recursion, feel free to send me stuff to fix (handle = "Covenant" ; otherwise, other folks will probably be happy to take a stab at it. Happy coding!

ByRef wrote:
I'm a newly awakened Redpill, so I suppose confusion is normal. I've read through the very useful guides and faqs in that forum, but still have a few questions.
1) I have been playing a Coder/Viruoligist mainly for The very useful Sim teammate that makes blasting baddies with viruses much easier then without him. I'm primarily specced into hacker and viruses for overload, code freeze and the second blast virus but my usual load out goes deep enough into coder to get a sim. He/she makes an passable tank, but the concept of "aggro" seems quite random. Do mobs have internal "hate lists" that adjust according to damage and healing done?
Are you referring to when/why mobs aggro to you or your sim? If so, note the color of the mob name over their head, which corresponds to their level. If the color is grey, they're much lower than you and typically won't fight you unless they're provoked. Purple, on the other hand, are significantly higher than you and will always attack if they get you in their sights. It's a continuum in between of colors/levels that get more aggressive as they go through all the colors, from grey, green, blue, yellow, orange, [EDIT - forgot red!], to purple. [Did I get them all?]
2) Occasionally, while in combat, immediately after throwing a virus at a mob, my
"shoot" icon locks and my combat log says "target out of range" for a few seconds. It doesn't happen everytime, but more then enough to be an anoyance. What the heck is it?
Ugh, it happens all the time with abs, it's so annoying. I notice it also happens with knife attacks in the spy trees. If you nudge your RSI a little closer to the target, the movement should relock the free fire mode. Obviously, you can also hit the "+" key twice to turn off and turn on free fire really quickly.
3) Repairs. I specced enough into codeing to get to "Repair Items" so I can temporarily swap to a repair load out when my gear starts getting raggedy. Only problem is, when I use the repair tool, it fails every time. I have never had a successful repair. It hasn't been a problem yet as I've been leveling and upgrading my gear pretty regularly with drops and collection quest rewards. I have a feeling as the leveling starts to slow down, Im gonna need to know how to Repair stuff successfuly. What am I doing wrong?
Note the color of the name of the item you're trying to repair; like mobs, the colors correspond to the level requirement necessary to successfully code or repair it. If it's grey or green, you should have a pretty easy time fixing it. If it's orange or purple, chances of a successful repair are slim. Look for clothing that buffs your repair skill. Also, try standing near a signal booster, which will increase all of your coding skills, including repairs.
Thanks in advance for your advice and wisdom. Hope this helps and good luck!

Don't miss the launch of The Trust's newest ad campaign during the upcoming Superbowl broadcast! The highly-anticipated, multi-million dollar, special-effects-laden commercial involves: - beer bottles playing sports,
- scantily-clad women frolicking in slow motion at a car wash, and
- RedBindi "accidentally" ripping off a critical piece of Fenshire's Area K Trench and revealing a surprising body piercing!
. . . Not really. But if we had a Superbowl commercial, it would totally be like that.
