With the game still in progress, it looks like the Lakers so far have played a very reserved and technical game while Orlando have gone for a more brute force and outright scoring attack. Made all the more interesting by the current tie in scores.

Recent news reports suggest that the centre-forward Nguyen Thi Buch Thuy is hoping to score even more for his team than he did last season.

There are several people - myself included - who have the resources to host forums, and have no reason to ever close them (i.e. the cost is marginal or nonexistent). It's then a matter of trusting that person to not show any bias. You'd have to deal with that issue wherever the forums are hosted though; there's always going to be one person ultimately in control.

Kinda sounds like you're volunteering Proc.  I don't mean to pressure anyone, but it is a time-sensitive decision before we all lose this place.

I'm not worried about a current player (well, most current players) being the administrator, as I imagine the only thing that would be deleted would be spam or over-the-line offensive stuff.  I'd be happy to help out as a moderator, and I imagine many other MxO veterans would be as well.

I don't want to lose this rare thing, this mostly-mature, almost-always-civil, more-diverse-than-you'd-think online community that shares my interests.  We have until July 31st to decide on a new Place (identify the subtle reference for a cookie).

With this I could not agree more, Tpaine.

I feel the greatest challenge which will present itself will be to:
a) Advertise whichever site (and / or) forum is decided upon sufficiently to each part of the community.
and
b) To sustain interest in said site (and/or) forum after its initial creation. Ensure that it is a place which it will be felt is worthwhile to check back to every so often, if not most days.

Something for all of us to consider while we search for a new home.

Community General Discussion RIP MXO.... HELLO FALLEN EARTH Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:RIP MXO.... HELLO FALLEN EARTH XElite 0 06/06/2009 07:23

Fallen Earth, ehh. I feel I may quite enjoy at least trying it out and as such what appeals to me most is the "Travellers" faction as I feel it would accomodate quite aptly for a Merovingian mind - set which I have become quite accustomed to, here in MxO.

On the other hand, we have the "Light Bearers" faction which look to strike a favourable balance between genuine goodness and the rebuilding of society. However, as we have seen from our forefathers, such terms can easily be weilded as a tool of destruction in the wrong hands.

The third wild card being to try something completely unknown and new such as the Techs which may provide quite an exciting alternative and allow the exploration of a kind of RP and character not able to expressed or engaged quite so sympathetically in the Matrix environment.

I know noone was dying to know this, but:

I actually held on to my Bluepill I.D card with a few of my alternate characters. I felt it symbolised a token, a symbol... something to hold on to from that character's bluepill life. One which reminded me and them that being a redpill did not mean cutting off all ties to the life before. That choosing the red did not negate any association with the blue.

Congratulations, Arch! It sounds like a degree which would very much suit your personality, if I may say so. Which is an immeasurable positive since I feel there is no greater job, vocation or pass - time in the world than doing that which we love.

As for myself; after having completed a 1st Year of Biochemistry and Pharmacology with a specialisation in Virology... I decided that there was far too much Mathematics and Chemistry and not enough study of the Biological systems which I so loved. Also; that I could not envisage enjoying a career in science.

... which is when I discovered that the thing which I spent the majority of my free time investigating, researching and interacting with was actually taught at quite a few institutions under the name of Sociology.

A degree in it means I get paid for RPing and playing MxO IRL :3

Of this, I have just finished my 1st Year at a University here in Scotland, with which I am in love and about to spend the Summer working in my second home of Simcoe in Canada.

This year's subjects consisted of:

  • Sociology. (Major. Personal focus on: "The definition of Sociology and limits to Sociological thinking" and "Contemporary Media and the Inherent Biases Thereof".)
  • International Relations. (Minor. Personal focus on: "The theory and 'Real World' applications of the 'Balance of Power'" and "International Monetary Fund and the World Bank."
  • (Transferred from Economics to) Anthropology. (Minor. Personal focus on: "Captain Cook and the interpretation of 'First Contact' situations." "Agreeability of the 'Original Affluent Society' theory as put forward by Marshal Sahlins".)

Although the standard degree of Sociology is not always considered as representative of personal capability or achievement in itself, I am hoping to take the basic Masters degree to Post - Graduate level and then onto either research or internship.

Community General Discussion LESIGS Re:LESIGS XElite 0 06/03/2009 08:25

I very much enjoyed working with Vogt on occasion, as did I Fuscienne back when XElite was still rolling as an independent crew.

It is ironic, because one of the things which I said more than once to for example Zane and Cail was that I missed having Harp around, well more - so that he decided to not participate in Role Play as often as he head just a little before my time; while he had infact been one of the most innovative and original Liaisons, the entire time.

The "Machinist of the Year" and "Hovercraft Battles" are often cited as a benchmark of the level of co-ordinated activity and player interaction which might be strived towards and I would certainly count myself among those who would also advocate each as such.

It is re-asuring to see that while Fuscienne and Vogt may have retired from their official positions of Liaison within LESIG, they were still active, lending a hand within, even when they were without, the Simulation.

I know this might be a long shot, but as they say; desperate times call for desperate measures.

  • Write a piece of prose centred around the Matrix universe. (If you're feeling especially adventurous, perhaps to then post it in your faction's website or the DN1 "Next Renaissance" section).
  • Download a freeware version of Fraps and crate a cinematic piece centred around the Matrix universe. (As above, but this time to an upload site such as Youtube).
  • Actively send ./t (ells) and mails out to people ingame to organise some Role Play or PVP. (If you're feeling particularly daring, perhaps even a change of location for either or both or even... send them out to players of other instances.)
  • Hit "F12" or "Print - Screen" on your computational device of choice which you use to play MxO and create some artwork; which can be enhanced by either Photo Shop 3 of a freeware copy of GIMP.
  • Create an event in-game. The term "event" being used as an indicator to something consisting of more than two people. Perhaps even spice things up with an objective which everyone involved can strive toward or even a prize for the individual or group to first obtain it.
  • Duel client MxO with other MMOs.

I mean, I know it isn't quite the same without a guy from SOE to reassure us of our validity in doing any of this but, well... it might be fun? Just sayin'.

In the stead of illustrating the quaint quality, or lack thereof, of such an initiative; I shall perhaps ascertain the factual basis of your having considered prior to such an assertion that a certain Exhilic presence is required within the Matrix - that it may provide an element of contribution to the endlessly sought 'balance' of the 'equation'.

It is additionally unfortunate to learn of your resort to a display of ritualised violence to better hold your imagining of standing within the Machinist community.

Syntax World Discussion - Syntax Farewell MXO!!! Re:Farewell MXO. XElite 0 04/18/2009 21:59

Quite the interesting development...

I recall one of my earliest memories of Mirmaker, as him as an Officer in Libertas Verus Veritas Lucis; often times to be found near Tabor, Kedemoth or Morrell alongside the 'invisible' old man, Zampano explaining to the derision of the majority of Operatives in the area, the benefits of growth in "the Real"; how it could provide us redpills with a common goal and strategy. More often than note, piqueing the interest of at least a single individual; a fervor which, if left unchecked, it would be hoped could go as far as to negate quarrels within the Simulation.

To be followed by position of Consigliere to Don Lucadello, in the new and reformed Commission.

I also recall that throughout; there would be periodic player events instigated and maintained by Mir, some of the most in depth, engaging and compelling storylines I have yet to have the privilege of participating in and with.

... that is to say, not only as a long - time staple of the community but also as an individual in your own right, you will be very much missed by a broad spectrum of Operatives.

Take care, wherever you may end up.

Also, welcome back in advance.

1. That was announced way too soon and those organizing said story threw a fit when everyone didnt run to TSR with open arms.

2. The event was posted in General Discussion which threw alot of people off and started the flame war.

3. Nothing was stopping the event team from running their story, they just decided not to do it.  They may be jacked out now anyway.

However many chapters are left would be divided amongst the three servers.  Each server would organize an event team to enact whatever chapters they have.  Everyone else will be the audience (along with new players).  Use DN1 to document everything (screenshots, announcements,..etc).  Win.

I am not so sure if it would be best to develop the story any further than it already has been - at least under the banner of doing so in an "official" capacity vis-a-vis argumentum ad populum, taking into consideration that at this point, the last official input was that of Rarebit in the summary and outline of what he had planned for the remaining chapters yet to be enacted.

Following from this, I think it may be an idea for groups such as the one Garu mentioned, who would hope to, in a regard: "finish" the story which we have already based on that summary and outline.

When we look to a painting, each of us sees a personal image.
Each author tells a different tale.
And each history book tells a different story by way of bias in what they choose to focus upon.

Thus, no attempt to do so can be perfect but it would, at the very least, give us, as a community and as fans of the Matrix universe, the chance to see something come of the last official input given to MxO.

Congratulations, SEPET!

Very well deserved, indeed. I found of particular interest and enjoyable to read; the story of how the SEPET name was originated with the research into the Knights Templar of legend. Perhaps, in itself, giving an insight as to the character's motivation.

I recall when, a while ago, events were unfolding between Flood and the EPN organisation when a hit had been taken out on Fuscienne by an unknown entity: forcing us to keep mobile in the Downton district. Later identified as a Cypherite operative. SEPET having gathered an unpresedented amount of intelligence on the assassin and the orders he had been given - allowing the rest of us to protect Fuscienne until the communication was able to be transmitted to Flood.

(Actually, I think Othinn, Dibol and some others managed to join us for the end, so he may have a chatlog.)

Only one such instance which exemplifies and illustrates the intelligence gathering skills, of which SEPET continues to be one of the most skilled in the operation of within the Simulation.

This post sounds a little excessively negative to me.

Also, yes, we will indeed be allowed to talk about The Matrix Online, within the walls of the convention.
As we all know, the walls have ears but as the old saying goes...

So the main page for Fan Faire, has listed both the Copyright usage required from Warner Brothers to use "The Matrix "Online" name and logo and also has "The Matrix Online" listed under the "Featured Games" section.
