TSR

Total Story Renaissance.

(from French Renaissance, meaning "rebirth"; Italian: Rinascimento, from re- "again" and nascere "be born")

Community General Discussion "Final Surprises" Speculation Thread Re:"Final Surprises" Speculation Thread Palathas 0 02/05/2009 19:46

If it's little and a secret then maybe it's a single key that someone can find that will open all the white corridors, or maybe it's a single key that leads to the Source....

How about an RSI capture of the Architect?

Community General Discussion Screwy audio in tutorial Re:Screwy audio in tutorial Palathas 0 01/28/2009 20:31

Yeah, this is something I'd be interested in also. My friend downloaded and installed this game on the weekend and he has a problem much like what you describe. Audio playback lasts for about 1 to 2 seconds and then just stops. Sound effects for weapons and combat sound a little odd too.

The music is ok though.

I probably should get him to post his DxDiag file in the tech forum if he's overly interested in playing. He was just checking it out but didn't seem overly impressed with all the glitches in the tutorial. He's running Vista.

I have no problems with audio but I'm running XP.

Community Redpill Rescue Martial Arts, which one? Re:Martial Arts, which one? Palathas 0 01/26/2009 16:37

In-game descriptions -

Kung Fu: This advanced combat style has a small advantage in accuracy and defense.

Acc +, Def +, Dmg default.

Karate: This advanced combat style specializes in damage at the cost of defense.

Acc default, Def -, Dmg ++

Aikido: This advanced combat style specializes in defense at the cost of damage.

Acc default, Def ++, Dmg -

So I guess it depends on what you plan to do. I'm only fairly new to the game as well but this is how I see it.

Kung Fu: This is a well rounded, run of the mill style that will suit most situations. You may want to have Focus slightly higher than Belief if you don't plan to max. them out to give a bit more damage.

Karate: This is a higher DPS style which would be well complimented by a Patcher to help with heals. I saw two ways to go with this but I'm not sure which would be better at higher levels, dmg resistance or defense. If you keep Belief right up your accuracy and resistance will benefit but if you juice your Focus you'll have a higher melee defense and do even more damage, a higher Focus also boosts any Ballistic Resist abilities you may have.

Aikido: Not really sure with this one. Maybe it's good to just be a meat shield and tie up enemies in interlock. Probably want to have a higher Focus for the damage.

Although I suspect that all MA styles would be better off with max. in Belief and Focus, which is 30 I think. That only leaves 8 points for the rest of your stats though if you started with 11 in Belief or Focus.

So far I have been playing on syntax, and it seems pretty straight forward, at least I think it is Though I have no clue where to find stuff like tools, (decompiler, repair thingy, etc) since I took the coder proxy route, and for now a bit of programming.

But the way it looks like now, you, in theory, could be everything. As long as you have the money to buy the abillities, and you will have to switch them out due to memory, but if you level up on lets say coder, you can always switch over to hacker. Or am I missing some important aspect here? And therefore doing it completely wrong

Edit: I did just realise that stats would be a problem.

As far as I can tell the stats aren't a huge problem. Later, level 12 -15 ish, you'll come across an Archivist for each faction and can buy a Stat Hack quest off them which, when completed, resets your stats so that you can change them.

I haven't tried this myself yet but as far as I can tell you can be a Patcher/Virologist with the optimum stats for a while and if you want a change of pace, get the stat hack and swap over to an Operative and Kung Fu everything to bits.

From what I can gather the only things you can't change are your Handle, Billpill Name and Gender. You can even change your appearance by going into the Exile strongholds and get pills from the exiles in there that changes your appearance. Some named exiles also have a chance to drop an RSI Capture item which lets you look like them.

I have a Jack the Hack and Menomom (sp? in Tabor Park) RSI Capture items.

Gameplay Discussion Missions and Storyline Archive Missions Re:Archive Missions Palathas 0 01/26/2009 14:55

Ah, ok, no probs. Thanks.

I'll keep at it then. It's not impossible, it just gets a little exciting occasionally. SMILEY

Gameplay Discussion Missions and Storyline Archive Missions Re:Archive Missions Palathas 0 01/22/2009 20:05

I got my first character to level 15 last night and it said I could go to the Archivist and get the story missions. So I went over to there and grabbed chapter 1.1 and all the Enemy NPCs are at least level 16.

My question is, are they set at level 16 or will they always be one level above me no matter what level I continue doing them?

I'm doing the Machines' line. The enemies were the fake Agents. It was only an issue when I entered a large room in one part and there were 3 ^ guys and 2 ^^ guys which all decided I shouldn't be there at the same time, it got a little hair raising for a while.

I still have 3 neutral mission providers to visit in the Richlands and more faction missions to do so I should be able to get a level or 2 and keep going. Especially if it starts to take me into West View. I only have the access key for Southard at the moment so I'll have to go hunting for more of those too.

Thanks,

Palathas.

Gameplay Discussion Character Development Attribute Allocation... Re:Attribute Allocation... Palathas 0 01/22/2009 18:17

OK, thanks. I stuffed up a little on those stats anyway. I gave one more point than you actually get.

If I make Belief and Focus 30 that will leave me with 8 points for the rest. I took True Believer at the start for a B 11 and R 5.

I might try -

B - 30

P - 10

R - 10

F - 25

V - 14

to start with and if things need a change around I'll get a Stat Hack and do the quest to change them. For some reason I'd like all stats to be at least 10. I also like the Idea of the Max Health and Max IS bonus that the V gives. I'll have to chcek it all out though and experiment a bit I guess.

I'm currently only lvl 15 so I have a looong way to go yet. SMILEY

Gameplay Discussion Character Development Attribute Allocation... Re:Attribute Allocation... Palathas 0 01/20/2009 18:56

I just started playing MxO recently and this answers one of the questions I had also. I was looking at a number of Attribute guides and they were all saying that if you want to go melee then you'll need to concentrate on Belief and Perception. They were all from 2005 though.

When I saw the Attribute discriptions in game though, this didn't make sense as Belief added to melee accuracy and resistance and Focus added to melee damage and defense. Perception didn't help melee at all.

So at this stage I plan to have the following by level 50 as a Kung Fu Master -

B - 30

P - 10

R - 10

F - 20

V - 20

I may make Vitality 15 and Focus 25 depending on how I go for Health and IS. The whole lot may change also depending on how Kung Fu goes as it's supposed to be balanced accuracy and damage which may mean I need a better defense but hopefully the higher resistance from Belief will cover that.

Community General Discussion Macros are driving me mad. Re:Macros are driving me mad. Palathas 0 01/20/2009 18:13

Well thankyou all for some good tips and info.

My main problems were -

a) Going off irrationally,

b) Not using separators,

c) Using the /invoke command instead of the /use command.

Thus

/macro HealMe /target myCharacterNameHere; /use 1 4;

where the skill on hotbar 4 slot 1 is the heal ability works fine.

Although like others have said, the 'U' key and just the skill works fine also. At that stage I wasn't aware that the 'U' key targeted me and I was trying with the 'F1' key with no success. As I downloaded the game through the Station Launcher I have no physical manual.

The /manual command works wonders for that though.

I didn't know about the lower case macro name working as a slash command though and that may come in handy later, I'm not sure but at least it's another option.

The worst thing about all my ranting is that in the end I've scrapped the need for most macros I was planning for the time being and only use them to save and load ability layouts....

Cheers,

Palathas.

Community General Discussion Macros are driving me mad. Re:Macros are driving me mad. Palathas 0 01/14/2009 06:15

I have no idea of what you are saying but the only way I could find to target myself, and thus heal myself, was to type /target InsertCharacterNameHere

Then I'd be able to use the heals I could squeeze into the whole 2 hot bars.

*sigh*

Once again I think I've just been spoiled with UIs that have xml config files and are costomisable to allow reasonable configurations of abilities.

Time to move on I guess, simply too frustrating. Seven days is enough, getting pretty typical of the SOE range. I can see why server population is so low in all games.

Constant Frustration != fun.

Rewards need to actually match the effort. No we are not in the 1990's and grinding really is not fun nor acceptable to anyone that isn't afflicted by OCD.

Garu wrote:

/macro HealMeh /targetself; /invoke RestoreHealth1Ability; /pause 30; /healmeh

That should work.

That's awesome. Why would I want a macro to call itself and go into an endless loop?

/targetself and many derivitives came up as "invalid target" or invalid command for me. Semi colons are great separators for many langauges but once again they have made zero difference for me.

Even trying to play with the 'lo' xml file hasn't helped a great deal other than to give me the very abstract ability names.

Edit: Sorry, I should be thankful that people have actually replied and some have tried to help. I probably should come back to it because I'm just ticked off beyond reason at the seriously bad way a lot of this stuff has been implemented and what I'm learning from all over the place rather than from the source.

The documentation is sad and empty to be positive about it...

*sigh*

Community General Discussion Macros are driving me mad. Macros are driving me mad. Palathas 0 01/14/2009 04:38

Seriously, which clown implemented the parsing system or naming convention in this product? It's just driven me absolutely barmmy.

/macro Me /target

This creates a nice little button called Me that when clicked, targets me.

/macro Heal /invoke RestoreHealth1Ability

This creates a nice little button called Heal that when clicked "casts" RSI 1.0 (See the match in names? No? Neither did I. Someone needs a serious course in Design Methods and Naming Conventions).

/macro HealMe /target /invoke RestoreHealth1Ability

This creates a nice little button that generates a "Invalid Target" message.

/macro HealMe /target /pause [anywhere from 1 to 100] /invoke RestoreHealth1Ability

This creates a nice little button that generates a "Invalid Target" message.

What the heck? Why is it that at every turn in this game it seems to go out of it's way to remove any sense of reward and just turn it into one big frustration?

To make this very clear and plain -

How do I make my healing abilities heal me?

I would really like to know if this is possible with one button please, as the target 'me' button is the only way I've seen that allows me to target me. I then have to create and use another hot button to cast the ability.

Currenty with a 60% miss chance for players and a less than 0.1% miss chance for NPCs I can hardly see how this could be unbalancing.

Although I can't see me sticking around too long unless something is made mildly conveniant as this game raises frustration without reward to a new level...
