Yeah, no. I watched two trailers of "Fallen Earth" and it didn't catch me. Plus I didn't like the graphics at all.

I kinda have the feeling that xp is not as high as it was before the restart too, but I don't have any solid figures to back that feeling up.

Rip out the network stuff from the server, make into a single player thing. Let's do the math... Suppose SOE doesn't want to outsource it and do it inhouse.... let 1 of the last MXO developers work on a conversion for a year full-time (making some small extra stuff: more rapid leveling, more info, clothes shop, ...)... don't advertise the game, just make a pre-order button on amazon and send all old-subscribers an e-mail when the game is ready (no Steam, no copy protection, send the DVD in a plain white box). Suppose 10.000 people would buy the game as lower limit, I would expect all people in the game the last 2 months to buy a copy. Treat it as a high end-game... 40euro a piece... 400K euro income as lower limit. That's a no-brainer... pretty easy ROI... and instead of 10.000 customers use the number of active people in the last 2 months of MXO. Ongoing franchise without a lot of cost, more positive people on SOE...
Well, I would definitely buy such a thing - even just for the sake of having it.

I used Dragon UnPACKer to pull out the audio files from those .pkb's. Its pretty easy and intuitive. Install, go to File -> HyperRipper, and select the pkb's you want to pull audio from. It will list the ones it finds, then all you gotta do is save the .wav files to wherever you want them. Some neat bits of unused dialog.
That worked. Thank you.

Yes, as the producer, it does ultimately land on me when things go wrong for MxO. I won't argue that fact or point fingers in other directions. If I inject a bit of humor at this point, it's because I'm disappointed as well--both in the ending of MxO and in not finding ways to change the direction of the game. Is there more I could have done? I'm sure there was. Hindsight can bring things into unfortunate and painful clarity at times. So I try to remember all the good things about this game and it's community and hope to learn from past mistakes so I can do better in the future. Too late for MxO, sadly. But not too late for any future projects I'm responsible for. I wish we could keep at least one server open. The option was looked into, but it wasn't feasible. So we have to retire the game and that makes me immensely sad. I understand the anger completely. Now we just need Keith01 to log on and say "I blame Walrus" to complete the circle. - walrus

So I noticed that the Neighborhood Contact's missions have little-side quests sometimes. I.e. in one of Operetta's missions there is a bluepill that asks you to plant a bug in the desk of another character. Those side-quests are never mentioned in the mission objectives, and they don't seem to be really relevant either. If you complete them, it doesn't increase the XP or grant you a particular reward. So is there any reason for them to exist or are they there just for the sake of fun?

With all the huge sympathy I have both for Tranque and Villemar, I don't buy the "I'm not rich, I can't afford" part. Let's see. I live and earn money in Ukraine, which is very far from being the richest country in the world and which is officially the hardest hit by the current economic crisis in Europe. And still, with a relatively small revenue - compared to the US and EU, where even a frankly mediocre job makes people earn twice as much as I do - I can afford paying 15 bucks per month. So no, I won't believe people out there in US or EU can't afford paying 50 cents a day for a game they want to play. In my eyes, it's not a question of possibility/affordability, but a question of willingness. It's quite understandable you may not want to pay this price for a game with no new content. But please, do not say you can't/ because that doesn't sound too honest.

Me: "Wait, you mean people still pay for [product]?" Boss: "Well, yeah. I mean, it's one-of-a-kind. It's the only product that does what it does, so there's a niche market." Me: "But it's antiquated technology! No one even uses pagers any more, do they?" Boss: "We want to get rid of it, but it brings in money, and it's still profitable as long as we don't spend any time on it. We need to essentially stop supporting it in the hopes that people will stop using it. However, we don't want to actively drop it since people are still willing to pay for it. Some people are paying for it and aren't even using the product any more, and it could be a problem for us if they realize that they still pay us every month for something they're not using." Me: "Well, I'm supposed to be the top tier support for it, and I didn't even know it was still in use, so I'd say we have that one nailed down. Still, that seems... off." Boss: "Yeah, you're right. Still, don't spend any man hours working on it if anything comes up. If the server happens to die, we'll at least be done with it." I'd say that accurately describes our current situation, mm?
Accurately enough to make me think you made up the dialogue just for MxO.

While waiting for a letter from Walrus, I pretty accidentally found his letter from 2007. The following lines sounded pretty ironic from the today's perspective: "...And since the guys on MxO are pros at keeping the game going, I don't feel the need to constantly oversee what they're doing. However, I'm way overdue for sending out an update from my perspective. Most of what "keeping the game going" means is moving the storyline along. This has always been the most important post-launch element for The Matrix Online and continues to be the case..." Like someone once said, some things never change, while others do. I wonder what we'll read in the upcoming message from our Producer (assuming that it really is upcoming).
