Recursion Events - Recursion Lost Sojourn Lost Sojourn cov 0 02/15/2008 16:01

The transmissions of the person going by "Lost Sojourn" have been referenced in other areas of DN1.  However, because all of the factions she or he has contacted appear to be on the Recursion instance, I thought it might be worth posting something more explicit and targeted.

Lost Sojourn, you have asked us to relay your messages through DN1.  So . . . here you go

We'll be looking for you inside the System.
The Lounge Matrix Universe Any thoughts re: recuperation time after extraction? Any thoughts re: recuperation time after extraction? cov 0 04/17/2007 11:30

In the films, the only person we see recovering after being freed is Neo.  The sequence is shot with Neo fading in and out of consciousness to suggest his disorientation and trauma, so it's impossible to tell how much time has elapsed before he is able to move on his own.  Meanwhile, the opening sequence of MxO - which takes a number of liberties with the story, imo - seems to suggest that you're able to return to the Matrix almost immediately after being unplugged.

So - how long should it take for a newly freed redpill to recuperate and be ready for duty?  We know that there's a period of intensive medical treatment to rebuild the atrophied musculature.  Also, wouldn't there need to be a least a day or so for a person to wrap their mind around what just happened?

I'm wondering because I'm thinking about a storyline involving brand new redpills, and wanted to get a sense of what happens immediately after rescue from the pods.  Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

The Lounge Matrix Universe Death of a Zionite. Death of a Zionite. cov 0 02/07/2007 22:01

So here's a sort of a macabre question about the culture of Zion, for all you armchair cultural anthropologists out there.  I was thinking about the death of a character in MxO, and what our faction might do to honor him in the Real - and I realized that I don't really know how people in Zion memorialize the dead.

For example, where do Zionites physically go to pay respects to their fallen comrades?   I don't know if corpses in Zion are buried in some big graveyard somewhere, or warehoused in a mausoleum, or cremated.  Are photographs readily available to make little memorials in people's homes or in public spaces?  Is there a wall of remembrance somewhere in the temple?  For that matter, what do people in Zion do to pay respects?  For instance, I'm imagining a scene where a hovercraft crew returns to a site in the tunnels where there was a battle and another hovercraft was destroyed, killing everyone on board.  What would the returning hovercraft crew do when they returned?  Laying flowers is out of the question because there's no plant life.  Can you think of an alternative gesture of respect and remembrance?  A 21 EMP salute?

Do you suppose there are prayers and religious rituals for the dead?  If so, would they reference Neo?

I realize that there have been a few memorial services in the Matrix lately (sadly), but those involve symbols and rituals of a human culture that don't really translate into Zion - plus those are just inaccessible to all the free-born Zionites.  I'm more curious about what folks imagine the culture of Zion does to commemorate and pay respects to the dead in the Real, given Zion's constrained resources in terms of space and material goods, as well as the practical and psychological limitations of living in essentially a gigantic refugee camp.

I don't think there's any right or wrong answer, I'm basically just looking for help with some brainstorming to help flesh out the culture of Zion - although if anyone knows of any guidance in the Matrix universe, that'd be helpful too.

The Lounge Matrix Universe Stop the presses, Sati has a purpose? Stop the presses, Sati has a purpose? cov 0 01/30/2007 11:06

Hang on just one gosh-durn minute, now I'm confused.  I thought the whole reason she was smuggled into the Matrix via the Merovingian was because she had no purpose in the Machine world and thus faced deletion.  Now we're being told that she actually has a function: improving the efficiency of power production by bluepills.  If she has a function, why was she threatened with deletion in the first place?

Help me out here?
