Syntax Events - Syntax 2nd Official machinist fighter tournament 2nd Official machinist fighter tournament Vogt 0 09/29/2008 13:43
On October 3, the second "Official" Machinist fighter tournament will start. It is an opportunity for everyone in our group to test their ability against each other under a specific set of rules. The goal of the event is to determine who are the best fighters in our ranks. The stake of the tournament is high : a FM-1500, offered to the winner of the tournament. An alternative prize can be offered in case the winner already has one.

Registering
Operatives have to personally send me (Vogt) a personal message in the Zero One Network, or an email in the Matrix to tell that they want to be added to the list of participants. I only require the name and the faction name of the operative.
Only machinist operatives are allowed.
The limit for registration is Friday morning, October 3. During the evening, the draws will be published and the tournament will start.

Qualifications
To define the ranking of the main draw, 3 qualifications matches will be held for each operative. Each opponent for these matches will be drawn at random, and will be known at the start of the tournament. It's up to both operatives responsibility to contact each other and a judge to hold the match. The qualifications matches must be all completed for Saturday, October 21. If both contestants are unable to find a time to compete against each other, the match will be declared a loss for both operatives, and won't give any point in the qualification standing.

Main Draw
Based on their result, operatives will be ranked in order of performance. The operatives with the lowest losses ratio will be ranked to the top, while those without victories will be ranked at the bottom.
Match ups for the first round will be made, where the highest ranked operative will be matched with the lowest ranked one. In case of an equal ranking in the qualifications, a random draw will be made to determine who will be the contestants.

Each round will last 2 days. The contestants have to arrange themselves with a judge to hold their match. If a match isn't held, both participants will be eliminated, giving an automatic victory to the contestant who was supposed to meet the winner.

Losing a match in the Main Draw equals elimination. The winner of the match goes on to the next round, until the final where the last 2 operatives will fight to determine the winner.

The matches
Every match will be held in an interior place, preferably in the machine construct. Leaving the arena will give a loss. Each participant will sit during a duel against the judge to make sure both contestants start with a clean state. Each match is determined by the first contestant winning 2 duels. No change in loadouts is possible between the rounds. Improvement abilities can only be used by the contestant during the match. External interference is prohibited, but no measure will be taken to make sure that nothing has been done prior of the match.

Only one loadout is prohibited: the Patcher tree. Healing abilities and consumables of all forms are also forbidden. Except from change of clothes, nothing will be tolerated during the matches themselves.

At the end of each duel, both participants can take the time necessary to regain their strength.

The Judges
Every match must be judged by a judge. I will act as one, and I would like to get some volunteers.

Judges aren't prevented from entering the tournament. Another judge must however be present to relay the results for their fights. At the end of the match, the judge must notice the tournament organizer by e-mail or personal message in the Zero One Network of the match results, including the winner of each duel.

This is all. There might be changes to the rules if there is need of clarification. Once all the contestants are registered, a sheet for the draws will be created. This image will be updated as the rounds progress, and it's where the results of the competition will be presented.

I hope that everyone will have fun. We'll be watching closely for the results

The Lounge Next Renaissance Lock's transfer: Hovercraft Battle Lock's transfer: Hovercraft Battle Vogt 0 04/22/2008 07:57
  Greetings.

A special hovercraft battle will be held tomorrow, Wednesday the 23 at 6:00 PM MCT. Cypherite operatives discovered secret data about the transfer of Commander Lock to New Zion by E Pluribus Neo. Cypherite and Machine captains are determined to ambush EPN and Zion at the rendez-vous point, as the location is now known to them. In response, Zion and E Pluribus Neo also sent their best captains to defend Commander Lock's transfer.

Each organization has to submit a list of 4 experienced (if possible) captains, regardless of instances. This battle will run a special scenario. EPN/Zion will be teamed up against Cypherites/Machines. The battle will end when one side is completely eliminated. One liaison officer for each organization has to assemble a team and post the list here. Once they are convoked to the battle by their liaison officer, captains should post to acknowledge that they will attend the battle.

The battle coordinating itself will be held on the Recursion instance of the Matrix. If a captain is from either Syntax or Vector, it will be necessary to have an alternative RSI available, if possible, with a similar name.

It is also known that Cypherites have very little experience with Hovercraft Battles. BattleCoordinator will be available at least one hour prior to the battle to give a comprehensive tutorial if needed.

This battle is considered a critical Hovercraft Battle. Rank points obtained for this battle will be doubled.

Community Residual Self-Image Machine ranks contest Machine ranks contest Vogt 0 08/29/2007 12:01
  Greetings.

The Machines agreed to set in place a ranking system for captains participating in hovercraft battles.

Operatives are instructed to suggest 5 ranks which will be used uniquely for the Machine organization. Additionally, the iconography of the 5 ranks must be created to represent the military decoration. The following requirements must be respected:

-Each decoration's size must be 32X32 pixels
-Colors must fit into a 24-bit palette
-A simple border surrounding the frame must be present
-Submissions must be made in lossless PNG files

The following is an example of the size of the image with a typical border.

The contest will end on Thursday, September 13. After this, operatives will be able to vote for their favorite entry. The winner will have the chance to have his ranking system immortalized.

Other organizations might hold similar contests. Operatives from all organizations may participate in this contest.

Good luck.

In the last weeks, Machine operatives of the Syntax division helped me define the rules of engagement for simulating hovercraft combat in the real. As we all know, the war rages both in the real and in the Matrix and it is essential for operatives to take an active part in both.

In the following days, instructions will be given on how to take part in this war in the real in a more official way, and how ships from all organizations can advance in rank thanks to their skills in strategy, tactics, but also teamwork. More details will come soon, but for now, operatives interested in taking a part in such battles are instructed to familiarize themselves with the rules, available here.

If you have any questions or you think that the rules need clarifications, don't hesitate to ask.
