We aren't able to make any permanent changes to the CSS script for the forums, we have to get the forum devs to do that, however, I did manage to do a work around for removing the underlines for links on the pages with the header.  They were making my eyes bleed.  Now it looks more like the old forums!

In all seriousness, these forums are actually quite useful for collecting feedback.  All feedback, whether it is positive or negative is useful for us even if it isn't something we may be able to put in or change.  Where the line gets crossed of being useful is when it isn't constructive.

"Nerf towers because they suck"  "Don't nerf towers, Bob is just a n00b and doesn't know how to fight in them."

Those would probably not be considered useful.

Of course, the new CE looks great! Has any thought been givin to new gameplay elements? Or is the focus on improving and adding to the existing gameplay? (Which is also a good thing)

Hooray Zat!!!!! The New CE looks awesome! But really, would it be too much trouble to post once a week about development? Even if there are no changes, at least it would seem that you are keeping in touch.

We'll probably start doing that again.  For a while there, people were complaining that there wasn't any changes each week.  /shrug

Here's a brief update for you!

Combat Engineering
We're currently working on the Combat Engineering profession.  We're on target for the end of January / first week of February time frame for a release on to the Test Server.

As mentioned before, there will be two branches of the Combat Engineering profession - Offensive and Defensive.  We've already mentioned the specifics of what each role would be getting but we'll be working on the balance where needed.

Here's a sneak peek at what some of the new deployables look like:

Vehicles
After the Combat Engineering project is completed, we'll be working on the vehicles we mentioned in the past - the buffed up Sunderer, the Galaxy Gunship, and the new and elusive Phantasm.  More details about these will be given as we get closer to working on them again.

Other Development Projects
After the vehicle project is completed, we'll be working on the Advance Hacking profession, next the Sniping profession, and then the Advanced Medical profession.

Events
We'll be starting the event calendar back up again in February for the Tuesday and Thursday event days.  We'll also be working on some holiday events for the future.

We're working on the Outfit Wars schedule for the remaining battles and playoffs. The battles should start back up in February. 

Chats
The dev chat will be making a return.  We're trying to schedule one in for February.

For example, there is a repeat award under two different names, I believe it had something to do with Boomers. Also, why is there Heavy Infantry Generalist/Specialist/Expert/Master and so on but not anything past Light Infantry Generalist? I want my Light Infantry Specialist Citation. And Locker Hack is messed up, I have Advanced Hacking and it says I'm not qualified for the qualification award even.

 

BTW devs the Mosquito is cheap

I don't have exact dates for you on the release of the deployables just yet but yes they will be on the Test Server for an extended period of time before they make it to the live servers.  Work is progressing nicely on them.  We'll try to give you an update on their status next week.

This challenge was more about roleplay mission as opposed to player events, which is why Homeslice was declared the winner.

However, after thinking about it, I have decided to reward honorable mentions for those who made the effort.  It's the holiday thing to do!

Project New Year

Challenge:

The New Year is on the horizon.  Each empire is planning to really surprise the enemy this year.  Your Command Central hopes that you will be the one to plan a secret mission for your empire.  They have given you control of selecting a target and plan of attack.

Instructions:  Write a secret mission as described above.  This mission can be text only or can also include images but make the missions as detailed as possible.  If you do use images, make sure you include smaller images in the post and just link to the larger versions if necessary.

On Monday, January 8th, 2007, at 10:00 am Pacific Time, this forum challenge will end and I will review the submissions and put them into placement.  The winners will be announced by January, 11, 2007.

Prize:

First Place:  The First Place winner will receive a specialized forum rank of their choosing, the ability to use external avatar images, and will have a unique image placed on the side of their name that will be relative to the mission they wrote.

Please sort it out, just get out of bed early some morning and play werner NC or VS for a couple of hours, the amount of TR that are warping like crazy, speeding up just as they are down to ten health and then warping 20 metres at a time whilst hitting every shot from an mcg.

I'm not having a go at all TR because 99% are fine, I guess the MCG just lends itself to CoF hacks well, so the hackers choose it to hack with.

Its not lag, if it was lag they wouldn't be able to cover that distance in the time they do, between this, invincible mossies and TR toons taking a full clip of JH ammo its getting silly, plus it opens up the floodgates for "well your TR you must hack" which as I said most do not deserve.

What annoys me more is that many are toons that were known to hack last time around; "testers" if you will, and they are back again testing new hacks, why? Good job banning people who didn't hack, whilst keeping those that did on the books.

If you spot someone speeding up in that manner or someone you suspect of using inappropriate behavior to play the game, please be sure report the people you spot so that they can be taken care of.  Customer Service addresses the issues as soon as they can.

I'm passing the information you listed along to the Dev Team, QA Team, and CS Team to look at further.

From time to time reminders about keeping your account secure are a good thing. So here is SOEs policy about Account Security and some useful tips on how to keep your account secure.


As the population of online internet gaming increases, so do issues regarding stolen or compromised accounts, and/or accounts that have been transferred from one player to another in violation of the User Agreement. This also applies to the amount of issues relating to Accounts that have had their login information "shared" with friends, relatives, and Guild members. These issues (and the time it takes to investigate and attempt to resolve them) hugely detract from the time that SOE's Customer Support staff have to provide quality customer service. Accordingly, SOE must remind all customers that:

(1) Account security is the responsibility of the account owner. This includes password protection, running virus checks, disabling file sharing, or any other means of checking that the owner's account has not been stolen or compromised.

(2) Any and all stolen, compromised, or shared accounts that are reported to SOE may be *suspended* in order to conduct an investigation and prevent further malicious acts upon the accounts in question. If characters on the account are deleted maliciously by someone, or items and coin removed from a character, a Customer Service Representative may offer a "character-restore." This will restore the player's character to its most recent backup if a backup is available. Experience points, items, etc, that are lost due to this type of character restoration will not be reimbursed. Please understand that once characters are deleted from an account, SOE does not guarantee they can be restored.

This character-restore service will only be offered once per player account. Subsequent occurrences of character deletion or item/coin/experience loss due to account theft, compromised accounts, or sharing of account information will not be reimbursed.

If a player account has been stolen or compromised, he or she must first recover the account by following the Account Recovery Procedure (detailed here) and then submit a Customer Service help-ticket immediately. Note: Due to the availability of character backups, Customer Service may be unable to help if the request for assistance is not received within a reasonable amount of time.

(3) Any customer found to be involved in an account theft may have any and all of his/her accounts banned. Prior to taking any action against accounts reported as compromised, SOE will conduct a thorough review of the accounts and determine the appropriate course of action. Accounts will only face disciplinary action based on information gathered through our investigation and not as a result of external allegations.

Account Security Tips

We strongly recommend that you change your current password periodically and keep your registration information updated including choosing a secret question if you have not already done so. Please make sure that you have provided us with your current and valid email address, we will use the email address on record to notify you of any changes or activity regarding your Station account and in retrieving lost passwords (this email address will not be used for marketing purposes unless you specifically opt-in for newsletters and announcements.)

Please remember to NEVER give out or share your Station name or password, including with friends and Guildmates.

The basis of a haiku is 3 lines with 5, 7, 5 syllables.  Here's an example:

Count your syllables!  And make sure you are writing a haiku and not a poem or caption.

Duration:  On January 15, 2007 at 10:00 am Pacific Time this challenge will end and winners will be announced by January 16th.

Reward:  Based on the number of submissions, we will determine winners and put them into placement.  Those receiving a placement will each receive a unique forum rank and the ability to use external avatar images.
