The Pirate's Cove Nautical Almanac Card of the Week: El Algeciras Card of the Week: El Algeciras Raijinn 0 08/08/2007 18:30
Each week we’ll be breaking down a card and giving you some strategy ideas on how you can utilize them in your fleet. This week’s Card of the Week is the “El Algeciras ”!

Name: El Algeciras
Rarity: Common
Type: Ship
Cost: 11 Points
Faction: Spanish
Cargo:3
Movement: S+L
Guns: 2S, 2S
Ability: This ship may dock at an enemy home island and load one treasure. If able, she must leave on your next turn.
Card Set: Pirates of the South China Seas

Notes: The El Algeciras is a tricky ship to play in a Deathmatch and is suited better for a Guns and Gold or Standard match since her ability can be fully utilized in those matches. She has good speed so she won't be left behind in many matches, but she can't hold a ton of gold so you'll need to find clever ways to gather gold and make it back to your home island. Her strength lies in sneaking around till later in the game and getting some of your opponents gold that's sitting around on their island, it's a two-fold benefit since you gain gold and they end up loosing some.

She doesnt' have the strongest cannons out there, but they are good enough to keep opposing captains honest. She's a solid ship to employ in a Guns and Gold or Standard match so give her a try!

The Pirate's Cove Nautical Almanac Card of the Week: El Aquamista Card of the Week: El Aquamista Raijinn 0 07/25/2007 17:55
Each week we’ll be breaking down a card and giving you some strategy ideas on how you can utilize them in your fleet. This week’s Card of the Week is the “El Alquimista ”!

Name: El Alquimista
Rarity: Uncommon
Type: Ship
Cost: 11 Points
Faction: Spanish
Cargo:4
Movement: S+L
Guns: 3S, 3L, 3S
Ability: One of this ship's treasures is worth +2 gold when unloaded at your home island.
Card Set: Pirates of the South China Seas

Notes: The El Alquimista is set up to be a great gold runner and she does a fantastic job at that. She has a relatively low cost at 11 points, she has a nice cargo hold that can store 4, and she's speedy with S+L speed! For treasure runners this is a rather nice ship to have just on the base stats alone. Where the El Alquimista gets that extra push to being an exceptional ship is the fact that one of the ships treasures nets you +2 gold when it's unloaded on your home island. You make 2 trips and your up 4 points, that's not bad at all and in Guns and Gold and Standard matches those extra points could be the difference in winning and loosing.

If you're playing Guns and Gold or a Standard match the El Alquimista is a ship that would suit you very nicely so see about commissioning her into your fleet today!
The Pirate's Cove Nautical Almanac Card of the Week: Grand Path Card of the Week: Grand Path Raijinn 0 07/17/2007 19:06
Each week we’ll be breaking down a card and giving you some strategy ideas on how you can utilize them in your fleet. This week’s Card of the Week is the “Grand Path ”!

Name: Grand Path
Rarity: Rare
Type: Junk Ship
Cost: 20 Points
Faction: Jade Rebellion
Cargo:5
Movement: L
Guns: 2S, 2S, 2S, 2S, 2S, 2S
Ability: This ship gets +1 to her boarding rolls
Card Set: Pirates of the South China Seas

Notes: Wow, just a bit of an overkill here with the Grand Path but she's a mighty fine ship. If anyone gets in close to her, they are pretty much going to look at the underside of Davy Jones' locker. She gets +1 to her boarding rolls, and with 6 masts it's pretty darn tough to beat if you are using her as a ramming or boarding ship. While you are at it, if you're up close, feel free to unleash all 6 rank 2 cannons as a welcome present to a rival Pirate.

Although she's not the fastest ship out there, one L move is fairly decent for a gunship and if you toss a helmsman on her she can keep up pretty well with most ships out there. Either way you look at it, this is what a gunship in a fleet is all about, power, and destruction.
The Pirate's Cove Nautical Almanac Card of the Week: HMS Prince of Chinchester Card of the Week: HMS Prince of Chinchester Raijinn 0 07/10/2007 18:10
Each week we’ll be breaking down a card and giving you some strategy ideas on how you can utilize them in your fleet. This week’s Card of the Week is the “HMS Prince of Chinchester ”!

Name:HMS Prince of Chinchester
Rarity: Uncommon
Type: Ship
Cost: 13 Points
Faction: British
Cargo:5
Movement: S+S
Guns: 2S, 2S
Ability: This ship cannot be shot at by ships within S of her.
Card Set: Pirates of the South China Seas

Notes: Similar to other ships such as the Fallen Angel, the HMS Prince of Chinchester is a difficult ship to take down. It has above average speed and 2 solid rank 2 cannons. Even though she's only a 2 masted ship she's a fantastic treasure runner as her cargo hold has room for 5! This means where other "Cannot be shot at by ships within S" ships have trouble being cargo runners, this ship can really shine.

She's useful in Deathmatches, load up a firepot specialist, captain, and a helmsman and she's a very dangerous gunboat! Using her in a Standard game and she's equally deadly since her treasure is even harder to take from her. Be sure to find a spot for the HMS Prince of Chinchester in your fleet today!

The Pirate's Cove Nautical Almanac Card of the Week: USS Montezuma Card of the Week: USS Montezuma Raijinn 0 06/26/2007 19:00
Each week we’ll be breaking down a card and giving you some strategy ideas on how you can utilize them in your fleet. This week’s Card of the Week is the “USS Montezuma ”!

Name:
USS Montezuma
Rarity: Uncommon
Type: Ship
Cost: 8 Points
Faction: American
Cargo:2
Movement: S+S
Guns: 2L, 2L
Ability: Other ships do not block this ship's line of fire
Card Set: Pirates of the South China Seas

Notes: The USS Montezuma may not look like a heavy hitter, but if used as a super-support ship she can round out a fleet very nicely. She has excellent cannons that can hit targets at L-Range away, plus other ships do not block her line of fire allowing her to stay close to a big gunship and tack on additional points of damage.

She's not going to win head to head fire-fights by herself however she will provide an excellent option as a quick tiny gunboat that will take out masts and support your bigger ships. She's a rather nice addition to any Guns and Gold or Deathmatch fleet so give the USS Montezuma a spot in your fleet!

The Pirate's Cove Nautical Almanac Card of the Week: Virtuous Wind Card of the Week: Virtuous Wind Raijinn 0 06/19/2007 19:13
Each week we’ll be breaking down a card and giving you some strategy ideas on how you can utilize them in your fleet. This week’s Card of the Week is the “Virtuous Wind ”!

Name: Virtuous Wind
Rarity:Common
Type: Ship
Cost: 14 Points
Faction: Jade Rebellion
Cargo:5
Movement: S+L
Guns: 2L, 2L, 2L
Ability: Junk. This ship may dock a an enemy home island and load one treasure. If able, she must leave on your next turn.
Card Set: Pirates of the South China Seas

Notes: Ahh the Virtuous Wind, this ship is a powerful ship to have in your fleet! A quick look at the ship reveals that she's rather quick, sporting a S+L range, this is on par with the quickest ships out ther so she's not going to have any problems trying to keep up. If you take a glance at the cargo you may have to do a double-take, yes that reads a massive 5 cargo spots to carry crew and treasure. This alone would make her a compliment to any fleet as a quick treasure runner. At next glance you find that the Virtuous Wind has 3 rank 2 long cannons! That's a great amount of firepower for a decent if you weigh it all out.

Ultimately the way the ship is set up you could easily use it as a general all-purpose ship that has great guns, swift sails, and a mighty large cargo hold. The ship can steal treasure from another player's home!

With this ship being able to compliment many fleets, it's high time she makes her way into your fleet!.

The Pirate's Cove Nautical Almanac Card of the Week: Le Descharges Card of the Week: Le Descharges Raijinn 0 06/07/2007 18:58
Each week we’ll be breaking down a card and giving you some strategy ideas on how you can utilize them in your fleet. This week’s Card of the Week is the “Panama Sun”!

Name: Le Descharges
Rarity:Uncommon
Type: Ship
Cost:
13 Points
Faction: French
Cargo:5
Movement: S+S
Guns: 2S, 2L, 2S
Ability: If this ship wins a boarding party, she may take as much treasure from the other ship as she wants, up to her available cargo space..
Card Set: Pirates of the Mysterious Islands

Notes:
The Le Descharges is a quick little "grocery getter" that has very good cannons and a nice special ability! She has one of the quicker movement speeds out there so she can get to the treasure that she wants and return home faster than most ships out there. Her cannons, while only 3, are rank 2 cannons and can easily take out masts on all but the toughest opponents ships. The 5 spaces available in her cargo are also above average when it comes to storage space, after all where are you going to put all the loot after you get it?

Now, the Le Descharges also has a special ability and a nice one at that. Since she's quick and manuverable she can find ships that have tons of treasure on them, beat them up a bit, and take all the treasure she wants (as much as she can hold) and then sink the ship that she's come across. the Le Descharges can't do that to every ship out there but she does have a fighting chance when it comes to this sort of tactic with some of the smaller rigs out there. She's a solid above average ship to have in your fleet!
The Pirate's Cove Nautical Almanac Card of the Week: Panama Sun Card of the Week: Panama Sun Raijinn 0 05/30/2007 21:04
Each week we’ll be breaking down a card and giving you some strategy ideas on how you can utilize them in your fleet. This week’s Card of the Week is the “Panama Sun ”!

Name: Panama Sun
Rarity:Common
Type: Ship
Cost: 10 Points
Faction: Pirate
Cargo:4
Movement:L
Guns: 3S, 3S, 3S
Ability: Ramming cannot eliminate this ship's masts.
Card Set: Pirates of the Mysterious Islands

Notes: The Panama Sun is a quick little ship! She can get you to those islands quickly (even quicker if she has a little help from a helmsman) and she has a good ability as well -- ramming doesn't eliminate her masts.

While she may not be the most stout ship or the quickest out there she has solid, average guns, to fend off would be attackers and the added benefit of ram protection does warrant that the Panama Sun get a fair shake when looking for ships to add to a fleet. Try her out and she should impress!
The Pirate's Cove Nautical Almanac Card of the Week: HMS Pacificum Card of the Week: HMS Pacificum Raijinn 0 05/23/2007 14:31
Each week we’ll be breaking down a card and giving you some strategy ideas on how you can utilize them in your fleet. This week’s Card of the Week is the “HMS Pacificum ”!

Name: HMS Pacificum
Rarity:Rare
Type: Ship
Cost: 15 Points
Faction: British
Cargo:4
Movement: S+S
Guns: 3S, 3S, 3S
Ability: This ship gets +1 to her boarding rolls. She gets +2 instead if her opponent is a submarine.
Card Set: Pirates of the Mysterious Islands

Notes: Do you need to take out crew post haste? Look no further as the HMS Pacificum is simply one of the most brutal boarding ships on the high seas. Load her up with Virgil and the Inquisitor and you're really looking to take down a whole lot of crew fast!

The HMS Pacificum isn't the fastest in the fleet, nor does she have the deadliest cannons but she can have an impact on the high seas none the less.Use this 5 masted ship to her strengths and you'll be punishing those who stand (or sail) in your way!
The Pirate's Cove Nautical Almanac Card of the Week: The Nautilus Card of the Week: The Nautilus Raijinn 0 05/15/2007 18:53

Each week we’ll be breaking down a card and giving you some strategy ideas on how you can utilize them in your fleet. This week’s Card of the Week is the “ ”!

Name: Nautilus
Rarity:Rare
Type: Submarine
Cost: 16 Points
Faction: Mercinary
Cargo:4
Movement:L
Guns: 3S, 3S, 3S
Ability: Two hits from the same shoot action are required to eliminate one of this ship's hull pieces
Card Set: Pirates of the Mysterious Islands

Notes: The fabled ship that the one and only Captain Nemo served as captain on -- it could only be the Nautilus. The Nautilus is a fine submarine, an extremely durable and deadly sub at that. While she can't move all too fast, adding a helmsman can help. The Nautilus has average guns, but only 3 of them so she's not quite a gunship -- this is a drawback due to her high 16 point cost.

The Nautilus has strength in ramming her opponent, then hiding under water. If she rammed a 4 mast ship that can actually shoot her (shooting ships underwater) this would only leave 3 cannons to fire meaning at best that ship could only take out one hull plate because of her special ability. This is very powerful indeed!
The Pirate's Cove Nautical Almanac Card of the Week: HMS Gallows Card of the Week: HMS Gallows Raijinn 0 05/08/2007 19:13
Each week we’ll be breaking down a card and giving you some strategy ideas on how you can utilize them in your fleet. This week’s Card of the Week is the “HMS Gallows ”!

Name: HMS Gallows
Rarity:Uncommon
Type: Ship
Cost: 16 Points
Faction: British
Cargo:5
Movement:L
Guns: 2L, 2L, 2L, 2L
Ability: This ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls against any ship..
Card Set: Pirates of the Mysterious Islands

Notes: Wow, what a ship! This is as close to a sure hit on a cannon roll as you'll likely see this side of Davy Jones' locker. Now the HMS Gallows isn't the quickest ship out there, nor is it the illustrious 5 mast ship that is so coveted, but it is a really solid 4 mast ship with decent speed, and a good cargo capacity. Add a captain and a helmsman and you've got a fine ship to lead the charge.

The HMS Gallows is a solid ship that should be serviceable for all forms of the game -- standard, guns and gold, as well as deathmatch. Be on the lookout when you see her on the seas, she's a powerful ship indeed!
The Pirate's Cove Nautical Almanac Card of the Week: La Sirviente Card of the Week: La Sirviente Raijinn 0 05/02/2007 10:35
Each week we’ll be breaking down a card and giving you some strategy ideas on how you can utilize them in your fleet. This week’s Card of the Week is the “La Sirviente ”!

Name: La Sirviente
Rarity:Uncommon
Type: Ship
Cost: 14 Points
Faction: Spanish
Cargo: 3
Movement: S+L
Guns: 2L, 2S, 2L
Ability: Schooner. As past of the move action, this ship may initiate a boarding party against a ship up to S away from her, without having to ram. The boarded ship may not use any boarding bonuses.
Card Set: Pirates of the Mysterious Islands

Notes:
The La Sirviente is a very powerful ship to have on your side! When matched with crew that can eliminate all of the opposing crew upon winning a boarding party -- this ship becomes extremely dangerous to those crew heavy fleets such as those who employ the "RedEx" tactic. The ship also has devestatingly strong cannons -- 2 long and 2 short, which is as close to a guarenteed hit as you'll likely come!

The speed of the ship is also a major factor -- S+L is quick but matched with a helmsman and it's not going to have much competition getting to just the right spots quickly on the playing field. Overall this is a powerful, quick, ship, that can cause havoc on the high seas!

The Pirate's Cove Nautical Almanac Card of the Week: HMS Plantagenet Card of the Week: HMS Plantagenet Raijinn 0 04/17/2007 16:38
Each week we’ll be breaking down a card and giving you some strategy ideas on how you can utilize them in your fleet. This week’s Card of the Week is the “HMS Plantagenet”!

Name: HMS Plantagenet
Rarity: Common
Type: Ship
Cost: 8 Points
Faction:British
Cargo: 3
Movement:S+L
Guns:3S, 3S
Ability: This ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls against Pirate ships.
Card Set: Pirates of the Spanish Main

Notes: The HMS Plantagenet is quick and packs a solid punch up close. When matched with a helmsman she's as quick as any ship out there and her cannons are enough to keep the many commanders honest when attacking her.

She doesn't have the largest payload, nor does she have the long range cammons, but she does have a good value, costing only 8 points, and she has a decent payload capacity with 3 cargo spots. Commanders looking for a good quick ship with decent cannons to run wild on Standard and Guns and Gold games should check out the HMS Plantagenet today!
The Pirate's Cove Nautical Almanac Card of the Week: Snipe Card of the Week: Snipe Raijinn 0 04/10/2007 18:59
Each week we’ll be breaking down a card and giving you some strategy ideas on how you can utilize them in your fleet. This week’s Card of the Week is the “Snipe”!

Name: Snipe
Rarity: Rare
Type: Ship
Cost: 6 Points
Faction:Pirate
Cargo: 1
Movement:S+L
Guns:3S
Ability: L-range cannons cannot hit this ship.
Card Set: Pirates of the Spanish Main

Notes: The Snipe is a tough little ship! The Snipe is very quick and can be used to confront some of the bigger ships who only have L range cannons such as the Flying Dutchman. This makes her a hard adversary to confront if you happen to have a ship such as the Fallen Angel working with her. The speed and quickness mixed with their abilities can cause havoc on the open seas.

A very dangerous ship, and for only 6 points, the Snipe is a worthy addition to any fleet. She’s best served for Deathmatches but could also be a useful addition to a Guns and Gold fleet. Set out on the high seas with the Snipe and see what you can do with her today!
