Due to an unexpected outage in our network center, all SOE websites, forums, and login servers are currently unavailable. This outage does not currently affect the game servers and players who are currently in game should not be affected.
The SOE network and operations teams are working toward a resolution at this moment, and as soon as we can provide an ETA for a restoration of these services, this post will be updated. We apologize for this unexpected outage, and thank you for your understanding. --------------------- UPDATE: The network team appears to have solved the problem, and things should be getting back to normal in short order. Thank you again for your understanding and patience, if any further maintenance is required we will update you in this post.

I had a great time hanging out in the cantina. It was fun to see the huge crowd gather while we danced.

This morning we experienced a brief network outage that affected all SOE games and websites. Crack SOE Network and Operations Ninja’s flashed to the scene and worked their kung-fu furiously to get things back in action for you. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused, but things look to be under control and stable pending any other giant monster attacks on the server room. Thanks for your understanding. No hamsters were harmed in the restoration of network capacity… (I know I don't post here on normal days, but I don't want you guys to not get the word. Please forgive my attempts at humor, the EQII folks are used to it... ) UPDATE: It also appears that a great number of people have lost their forum ranks and can not post. I have contacted the forums team so they can look into this. (/me heads off to find out who invoked Murphy's Law today.)

CES Day Three The third day at CES was another trip into the expo halls and a chance to see everything I had missed on the first day. Including the entire car audio section. I've never been a serious fan of putting all kinds of money and gadgets into my car stereo system, but oh boy do the people who like it have options. We saw a number of cars fully tricked out and competing to push the most THUMP through the halls. While I'll never deck out my minivan like that, I can really appreciate how it all works out in the end. There were some seriously cool cars, with sound systems better than anything I've ever had at home even! I'm sure coverage of that stuff will end up in the car enthusiast magazines if you are interested. We also took a full look at all the TV's, and anything else that caught the eye. One thing of personal interest that grabbed my attention was a piano training software/game. The icons for notes ran up the screen like Dance Dance Revolution, but the play of it was exactly like Guitar Hero. Time it right on a real midi capable keyboard, and win the game. What was neat is that in four simple steps the 'game' has you reading music and playing it! After you get used to it in DDR format, the notes shift to scrolling from the right to the left side of the screen; then the icons are replaced with notes, and finally full tabulation. End result is that you are reading sheet music like a trained musician. It's a neat way to bridge people into actually playing an instrument.
After a full day in the expo hall and a fine meal with Brenlo and EM, we shook off the dust of the day and headed out to the Pirates of the Burning Sea launch party at the hard rock. This party was the first ever launch party I've attended and it was awesome. Food and drinks were in abundance, and there was even a Texas Hold 'em tournament for people to play in. After a few good hours of socializing we all ended up back at the Luxor and then made ready for the long trip home.
Being able to attend CES was an experience I'll not soon forget. With so much technology to see and tinker with, and interesting people around every corner, it's a great opportunity to start plotting my next Christmas list.
I hope you enjoyed reading my micro-blog here, I'll end it today by adding in some of the pictures I took while I was around Vegas. They have turned out better than I hoped!

CES Day Two:
Now that a long weekend of recovery is complete, it's time to round out my trip and keep Ashlanne from having to harass me for being bad!
My second day at CES was even better than the first. As EM and I rounded out a daily tribute to Starbucks, Brenlo confirmed that he'd be making the drive into Vegas to join us! Brenlo always makes events more fun so we spent the next hours getting ready and making sure he had a place to sleep when he got there. I'll also admit that I put a five in the Wheel of Fortune slot machine. If I had any good sense I would have quit when I went up $50... but I didn't have any good sense.
The big focus for day two was the community meet and greet at Quark's bar. We actually went in there early and had dinner before the action, and it was good food. I am not a Star Trek fan at all (Star Wars rules, what can I say?) but they did a fine job of capturing the atmosphere and the staff was very good at interacting and making sure everyone had a good time. Kudos to them for this!
Then our event kicked off. People were right there when it started, but then something went wrong and the staff at Quarks got confused and started telling people that the event was canceled. Naturally, with us inside the bar we were a bit surprised to discover that we weren't there, and Brenlo did his level best to communicate to the staff that we were actually there and they should seat people near us so we could all socialize; but it didn't seem to work out so well as we later heard reports from people who were turned away that wanted to come.
That's a huge bummer because the people who did get through the red shirt security were great folks and we had a really fun time. For me the highlight was meeting a family of five that held nine accounts for SOE games. Yes, nine accounts. Anyone who doubts that MMO's are family activities is in denial, as many of us have grown up since EQ first launched, and are now sharing games with our kids. My son loves playing EQII for instance, and I don't feel all that unique.
After a while the Klingon's were starting to give us cross looks so it was time to go, we handed out some loot to the folks who broke through security and wished them well. Then it was time to go back to the Luxor, have a drink, and crash.
Mission accomplished.
Tomorrow I'll post about Day Three and the Pirates of the Burning Sea launch party, and then sort out my cell phone images. Apparently I had the resolution turned down low for most of the show, so I have to see what's good and what's bad. Sorry!

Today I traveled to Las Vegas to attend CES. This is my first ever trip to CES so I was fairly excited as I woke up and readied myself for the airport and short flight from San Diego to Sin City. The flight was good, and I soon found myself in Vegas.
My expectations for CES were based on my memories of E3 at it's peak, lots of cool things to see, and hordes of people with very little room to move. I was pleasantly surprised to find that while there were indeed a lot of cool things to see, there was also plenty of room to move! I spent my day exploring the show floor with EM Stock and having a fantastic time. There is something about technology that makes row upon row of geek toys a peak experience.
I had on my comfortable shoes, so even putting miles and miles under my feet was no trouble. The day went fast, and I learned a few lessons that are quite useful in Vegas:
- One cab ride costs as much as 3 days of the tram!
- Single day passes for the tram are $9; 3 day passes are $40. Do that math...
 - CES is just plain cool. I wanted every booth to have a contest, because they all had something I wanted!
- Quarks is cool! Yes, EM and I got a preview of the bar before our meet and greet tomorrow!
We ended the day with a fine meal at Benihana, surrounded by good people. Talking casually about our games with folks who know them is one of the best parts of these show. It's also one of the best parts of the meet and greets, which makes me very excited about tomorrow night. Online games are social beasts, and any opportunity to meet with the people behind the avatars is a great reminder of how inter connected we all are by the games we play.
It's midnight here, so I got home early and behaved! My mother and wife will be proud! So far the money eater has only cost me a dollar, I really didn't have time to gamble beyond the token "I'll feed this to the loot destroyer on the odd chance that I hit."
I should have quit when I won 80 cents..
I'm going to try to shoot some pics from Quark's tomorow with my phone, so I can upload and share them. If you are anywhere near Vegas.. come join us!

Definitely not true.
Someone just wanted to make sure I didn't spend the entire holiday weekend focused on my family.
Somehow our recent news about looking to expand our operations into India has morphed into this rumor.
So, not true, debunked even at the Smed level!
