I want to state, since I know you're going to say "SOE isn't obligated to tell you anything", that as a consumer, I do have a right to know what's going on with the service I pay for. If my cable provider suddenly dropped my 100+ channels to just 10 channels overnight, I'd want to know darn well why and how come I'm paying the same monthly rate. Everytime they'd remove a developer, or a feature, and the community would ask "Why?", we either got silence or "We'll get back to you on that."

VorAbaddon wrote: If it's such a "Slap in the face"... then why did you continue playing? SOE, nor any other game company, are obligated to maintain these games. Nowhere is it guarenteed that you'll get support. I'm not going to say you don't have a right to your opinion about SOE, but nor do you have a right to anything you expect. It's a service, if you're not happy with it, discontinue it. But don't act as if you have some Constitutional privelege to an expansion to an internet game.
You just don't get it. Those of us who play MxO feel strongly enough about it to override concerns to the contrary. To put it simply, we love the game. Like a sibling or a limb, we love it - even when we hate it. It's not about recieving support or expansions, most of us are realistic about that. It's about how SOE has consistently taken things from us again and again and now they're taking the last thing we have left. Put yourself in our shoes. Imagine your favourite game being whittled to a stump over a period of years. Feel what it's like to try and keep people's spirits up when each thing is taken away. Picture logging in every day to find another person on your friend list has left and the feeling of hope each time one comes back. Feel the pride of weathering all of this and still being able to proclaim 'We are still here'. Very shortly, hope will die and SOE will wash its hands of the blood. I have dreamed a dream, but now that dream is gone from me.

The difference is that MxO was promised outright that the servers would not be shut down while people were still playing.
So, they should take the financial hit and pay for the servers to stay up so a small few can play the game? During a time when companies are suffering from the recession currently going on?
Yes. That's what it means when you make a promise.

Well we finally have an answer. I know a lot of people will be relieved to have a weight off the shoulders but I for one cannot forget that this directly contradicts the promise made to us earlier. May SOE reap what it has sown.

The subject of this thread may be phrased as a question but I should make it clear that I was not posting in a rhetorical sense. MxO has the same requirements as any other game and SOE is refusing to meet those requirements. This is not good enough.

Omni wrote: I realize it's part frustration and part anger than makes one try to get everyone to leave a game in masses. I'd be lying if I said this is the first time I ever saw the manuever attempted. I can't remember many games that didn't, at one time or another, make someone mad and they threatened to kill the game with mass exodus in an attempt to hurt to developer. Not sure how effective the technique is compared to rational conversation. I know what I'd rather participate in. In all truth, I imagine there is silence across the board because there is some unknown here. That doesn't mean nobody cares or there 's no future for the game. Maybe it's time to go see the Oracle... or quit the game and not think about it.
Nobody is advocating a mass exodus quite so much as SOE who has shunned us enough to convince many players to leave of their own accord. Many members of our community have tried the rational conversation approach but getting information out of SOE has been like squeezing blood from a stone. As far as we can see, there is no future for the game. All most people want now is a confirmation one way or the other.

The Matrix Online needs one or more people to fill the roles of Lead Developer, Stroyteller and Animator. The definition of 'need' is as follows: need–noun | 1. | a requirement, necessary duty, or obligation | | 2. | a lack of something wanted or deemed necessary | | 3. | urgent want, as of something requisite | | 4. | necessity arising from the circumstances of a situation or case | | 5. | a situation or time of difficulty; exigency | | 6. | a condition marked by the lack of something requisite | | 7. | destitution; extreme poverty |
That is all.

Gitano - The Matrix Online
I love MxO because of how every player loves MxO. The people who make up our community are dedicated to making MxO an amazing place and they manage to impress me constantly. Our staff are talented, dedicated and love the game every bit as much as the players but that's not all; many of the players sacrifice their own time, effort and resources to make the game more exciting for others. There's Rarebit's LESIG team which liaises between the staff and players to make Live Events run smoothly and we even have an unofficial Live Event team which introduces ARG elements and puzzles to Matrix storylines. If that's not enough you can listen to one of our player-run radio stations, go to a party or come up with a cunning plot of your own. MxO, more than any other game, is a labour of love for those who play it - and it really shows.

The word you're looking for is 'animator' and I think the engine is Maya or somesuch. Oh, and the Station Launcher question has been answered on DN1 I believe.
What really interests me is the possibility of putting in place a system (and legalities) by which players can submit content for the game. Many of us are talented in webwork, graphics, coding, etc and are more than happy to submit elements for future use by the Development team. This could range from something as simple as another billboard run to something as involved as new clothing designs or even outsourcing animation tasks.
Another pressing issue is MxO's constant database problems. This manifests itself in problems like the recurring 'Faction Bug' and the limited capacity of our clothing database. An extension of this is improvements to our in-game email and marketplace functions.
Thanks Shadow.

Raijinn's last 'Week in Review' was August 31st. He seems to take no part in the community, nor does he communicate with any other MxO Staff so far as we can see. This isn't good enough. Raijinn isn't doing his job nor has he done it for some time - at least with respect to MxO. The general deduction we are left with is that he spends all his time with Planetside or some other project and from what I hear they do get rather a lot more of his attention than we do. What's the deal?
