I have found myself sore at heart and gigantically concerned for the status of SWG now with this news.
It just, will continue to boggle my mind, how Sony Online Entertainment, a division of one of the worlds largest and most powerful media and electronics companies can possibly take the IP for two of the most iconic movies of my life time up to this point....and just, mince them into crap and fail them so badly.
MxO had style at release it had innovative vision, it had intent to allow for non-static content, an ongoing storyline the player could engage in, interactive storyline events....but that all failed after Monolith sold out to SoE. It just became another game to grind in, SoE's additions to the storyline were....disjointed and absolutely ludicrous in so many cases.
And yes, MxO had its own "NGE" of sorts, a beautifully designed system at first, apparently MxO's style wasn't good enough for SoE so they NGE'd it too, dumbing it down to button mashing much like SWG is today.
And as I said, I find myself sore at heart for the industry as a whole....what will be left? When SWG falters due to SWTOR and SoE decides the license costs are no longer worth the returns on investment they're getting?
Does SoE truly think that I'm some mindless pod larvae the will simply slug my way over to EQ2 when the titles they have that interest me are gone? Are they really that naive?
Do they really think DCUO and The Agency are going to save their online division?
Planetside is a joke....it has less than 5000 active players that aren't chinese hackers. SoE does nothing about the hackers.
Vanguard:SoH is a joke, the entire development story of that game is a horror novel of game design history that I would not wish to see repeated anywhere.
Everquest is an antique.
EQ2 is a high poly joke fantasy world.
Pirates of the Burning Sea was a nice homegrown game effort that is, now, largely, a hacked up joke of a game because of SoE's lack of interest in supporting the title.
Free Realms? Really? SERIOUSLY SOE? You think thats what the gaming market wants?
No..its what you want, a generic, mash up Sims meets WoW thats totally family friendly so ever mommy and her babies can play it without a worry in the world that something "realistic" may occur.
I can honestly tell you, that as much faith as I'd regained in SoE from what appeared to be genuine concern and attempts to better SWG to help it to recover from the trauma of the NGE, the MxO shut down...has shaken it again.
Planetside will be next, then, SWG....I am almost sure...will follow. They will sacrifice the games we love, for this piece of crap "family friendly" Free Realms title, and to make room for DCUO and The Agency....which aren't going to do well after release either.
Sad to hear MXO is shutting down. Not because it was a bad game, more because its a prime example of what happens to a "sure to be successful" game that doesn’t get the support it deserves.
first matrix was pretty good for its time... other 2 sucked, just eye candy tbh
IMO

Quoted from an insider: I don't think MxO or SOE in general are a good indicator of where the market is going right now. DCUO and Agency are both troubled projects - SOE has been betting everything on Freerealms, which is working for corporate. I expect we'll see some branching out in the next few years just because it's ironically a safer bet with WoW's iron dominance of the fantasy genre.SoE doesn't care about the games we care about, they just want that stay at home mommy money since they can't complete with Blizzard in any reasonable fashion with their own fantasy titles.Thusly, we get....Free Realms. MxO and SWG get side lined. DCUO and Agency launch and fall on their faces, and whats left is Free Realms and EQ. Or....WoW.And that'll be me...pretty much done with SoE, for good.
never played it

olololo
I'm fairly sure the typos, all two of them, did not make the post quite that unreadable, but, lol sir, regardless.
Seems the machines have one this fight then.
