Star Wars
has elicited volumes of fan fiction from all over the world. We all know that Star Wars Galaxies has a vast number of
really talented writers who post stories daily.
Since we have such an abundance of talent on our forums, we thought we
would draw it out and showcase fictional pieces created by our players.

Galactic Tales is a friendly writing
competition that will be held every other Wednesday. Here are the rules for
participation:

- A 500
word limit will be strictly enforced. Any
entries over 500 words will be disqualified (and removed from the thread!).

Each week, a different theme will be provided that your story will have
to adhere to. We want to see how well
you can write with a little direction!

-
Each time a Galactic Tales competition takes place, only one story per
person will be accepted

- No Edits after 30 minutes of first post.

-
Every time a Galactic Tales is thrown, two threads will be posted here
on the message board – The Galactic Tales Stories thread and the Galactic Tales
Discussion thread. You may NOT under any
circumstances talk about or post anything other than your story in the Galactic
Tales Stories thread. If you do, your
own story may be disqualified as a result (and your comments removed). If you’re not participating but posting in
the Stories thread, action by a moderator may be taken against you.

Factors in judging will include
spelling, grammar, story flow, character development, plot, and how well you
stick to the theme.

The winner of Galactic Tales will
receive a special Galactic Tales forum icon diplaying their creative writing prowess to the
rest of the community!

Franco muttered to himself as he sloshed through the swamp grasses that grew thick along the banks of the Solleu River. The look on Cora's face that morning, as she spooned the last bit of gruel into baby Litok's mouth, was enough to break a man. This time he was sure his harvester had collected the precious gemstones all the local artisans coveted and desired.

She had screamed at him, as he walked out the door, not to bother coming back unless he gave up his foolish prospecting. She would change her tune when he returned with a sack of sparkling gems.

He stopped for a moment, peering through the tall grass. This surely was where he had placed his harvester. Ahh yes, he could see the rusty tip of the extraction rod peeking up from the grasses. As he got nearer his heart sank at the silence.

He approached the ancient machine and, with trepidation, pried open the hopper. His shoulders sank as he observed the bits of mud and slimy water within. Cursing, he gave the harvester a savage kick, then cursed again, as all that had accomplished was to set up a clamoring in his big toe.

Sighing he pulled open the housing and fiddled with the extractor shaft. The grasses to the south shivered gently in the breeze. The silence was peculiar but he had bigger problems to consider than the contrariness of nature.

Kneeling, he pushed and prodded at the extractor shaft. It was completely mired in the mud. Grumbling, he began scooping futilely at the globs of mud, oblivious to the swaying grasses behind him. Franco lifted his head, what was that squishing sound? Bah! This harvester was hopeless. He got to his feet, furiously thinking of some tale to tell Cora. As he turned, he caught a blur of motion out of the corner of his eye.

The heavy red narglatch sprang, its bristles resembling the very tips of the swamp grass itself. Franco's mouth gaped open in a silent scream. The creature was upon him. Razor sharp claws tore into his shoulder and hip. Molten lances of pain raced through him.

He fell to the ground, the narglatch's snarling filled his ears, its hot rank breath suddenly reminding him of the dinner Cora had prepared last night. He tried to cover his throat with his hands, play dead he had heard. He felt the great cat sink its rear claws into his abdomen and rake. The terrible rushing wetness that followed was almost a relief. Ivory fangs closed upon his hand and throat. As the massive jaws closed, Franco thought that Cora would surely give him hell for ruining another pair of trousers.

Silence fell and the grasses stilled. The narglatch turned, gripping his prey by its mangled neck, and headed off through the marsh. Something sparkled in the deep gouges of mud for a moment, then the waters crept in, veiling its brilliance.
