Support Forums Connection Issues (LaunchPad, Network, Router, Installation) Connection issues occurring as of 7-8-08 Patch Connection issues occurring as of 7-8-08 Patch TSR-KenC 0 07/09/2008 12:11
Hey everyone: Another patch day has come and another wave of issues arrives with it!

I'm in the process of researching the issue and why it may be happening - I've not been able to recreate it on these system, so I'm calling in the help of my Tier 2 team to help get this figured out.

I'm fairly certain that this is a combination of issues  that have all sprung up at once with the introduction of the patch - I'm going to give two solutions (one is Vista-Specific) that have been known to work for customers in the previous patches. Those of you that have had problem before might recognize them.

Please try these 2 solutions and let me know the result, whether it be good or bad

---

Solution A (Vista-Specific):

Windows Vista can very commonly have problems interpreting how data should be handled when connecting to our patch servers. Please go through the two solutions below to get your issue resolved.

1. Right click on the game's icon and go to properties
2. Go to the compatibility tab
3. Click on "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select XP Service Pack 2
4. Check "Run this program as administrator"
5. Click Apply
6. Right Click on the game's icon once again
7. Click "Run as Administrator"

If this does not work for you, please try the next section.

There are many occurrences with our patcher in which Windows Vista security software can interfere with the patching progress of our games. In this situation, it might be Windows UAC (User Account Control) that is not allowing the game to patch correctly. For the purposes of security, you will only want this feature disabled until your issue is solved and should re-enable it after everything is working.

1. Type msconfig in the search box on the Start Menu and press enter on your keyboard.
2. Click the tools tab in the System Configuration box.
3. Scroll down the list and highlight 'Disable UAC' then click Launch.
4. Restart your computer.
5. Run the patcher.

You can enable UAC by following the steps above but highlight 'Enable UAC'

Solution B -  Deleting all UI-Mods/Temporary Character Files from your main SWG Directory:

You may want to delete the following files and folders:

Local_machine_options.iff
characterlist.txt
swgclient_r.exe
dbghelp.dll
dpvs.dll
gl05_r.dll
gl06_r.dll
gl07_r.dll
mss32.dll
qt-mt305.dll

Also, rename the profiles folder to profiles1. Once done run a full scan of the game and enter the world. Note this can delete any hotkey's macros or friends list so you may want to back up these files. These files can be found in C:/PROGRAM FILES/STARWARS GALAXIES. (This is assuming that the path given is your default directory that SWG chooses - please refer to where the directory was made if you chose to install the game eslewhere on your system)

I'm working dilligently to get more information to you folks, as that's what I'm here for - thank you all that have sent me the PMs - It helps me gather information and get a tally of just how many people are affected.

Also, all phone support representatives can speak to me at any time if you want to call us and get a status update.

  To any affected SWG players:

I need to get a list going of any people that are currently having an issue similar to this:

You're launching SWG - picking a character - loading the game. The game loads completely and you may start hearing sound effects from the game itself. Then you either get kicked back to the Character selection screen or out of the game entirely.

--

If this sounds close to what you're experiencing, send me a PM with your account name(s) and exactly how long this has been occurring for you. Also, if you're getting kicked from the game entirely after loading the character, include any error messages that you may be getting.

Also give a post to this thread so I can get a good idea on how many people are having trouble as a whole. I'll be sure to keep you all updated.
