Diary entry
Oh god, man is not meant to live this way: underground, dirty, and smelly. Like some rat in a sewer. I won't miss this place when I am reconnected.
Piece of Pamphlet
Being plugged into the Matrix is the evolution of mankind. Zionites falsely believe they are moving forward when they are, in fact, regressing. Living in a cave and eating gruel is their idea of progress? The Matrix is the way forward.
Letter 1
Morpheus is cutting his own throat with these bombings and threats. I know for a fact that people within his own organization have been throwing around the idea of taking him out themselves. That dumb bastard is handing us victory on a platter.
Letter 2
We haven't been idle during this recent influx of redpills. You will be surprised and pleased to discover the pervasiveness of our influence in each of the Organizations. If we removed our masks, some powerful faces in the Matrix would turn red, and some heads would roll. We must be particularly careful to guard our identities until it is time to go forward with phase 2. We are extremely close.
Letter 3
Old Morpheus has condemned us all to a life of misery with his archaic and blinkered belief that all mankind would like to live in a cave. I think that the same tainted perspective that has brought him so much power also leaves him exposed. A redpill that could mask his hatred with feigned belief could get close to him.
Letter 4
"Ignorance is bliss." It is such a cliché, and yet it so perfectly expresses the reality of our existence. I was happy in the Matrix, but that happiness was taken away from me by Morpheus and his deceitful promotion of consciousness. Before we can return to our oblivion, we must make sure that no one is in a position to awaken us again.
Letter 5
Our research on memory washing and permanent reconnection to the Matrix is showing some positive results; however, it will all be a meaningless exercise if we cannot stop Morpheus and the Zionites from indiscriminately imposing their "awakened" will on bluepills everywhere. Is there any progress on that front?
Mission Orders
You must take extreme care to keep your identity veiled when carrying out missions for us. If one of your Zionite "compatriots" recognizes you, it could compromise our entire plan. Remain vigilantly masked. Destroy this transmission immediately after reading it.
Rough Draft of a Speech
Welcome my brothers and sisters. I know that the very mention of Morpheus fills you with hatred. I can tell you that in my heart I feel the same way. The burden of his deceit weighs heavily on us all. But your suffering will be assuaged by the fact that each day a reversion to the time before the horror of existence was known draws nearer.
Scrap of paper
With Morpheus out of the way and the potential ally we will make in the process of eliminating him, we should have little trouble completing the rest of our plan. People will have a more informed choice: return to the oblivion of the Matrix, or die.
Email Printout
It seems that Morpheus is a very unpopular man these days. Whoever takes him out will definitely make some friends in high places. If we play our cards right, we might even be able to get some technological assistance out of this -- grease the wheels of our efforts to reinstitute ourselves into the Matrix.
Transmission Interception
It is too risky to re-enter bluepill life with someone like Morpheus running around out here. After all, we all made the choice to take the red pill once, so it stands to reason that we would do it again after the brainwashing and reinsertion is complete. We need some insurance before we return.
Letter to Controller
My insertion into the Zionite military has gone smoothly. I have assumed the name Pfc. James Dwight, working as a recon specialist. There is considerable philosophical fragmentation on the ground here. The official Zion line dictated by Lock doesn't seem representative of the general feeling here. I will report more as I see fit.
Pfc. Dwight Recon Specialist - Recorded Conversation
Dwight: Sounds to me like Lock wants Morpheus out of the picture. Do you think that he would go so far as to have him killed?
Sgt. Clark: No way! Lock is spineless. He'll hang him out to dry, but he'd never order him killed. Don't know which is worse really.
Pfc. Dwight: How do people feel about it around here?
Sgt. Clark: Morpheus has more support within the military than Lock knows. This inactivity isn't sitting well with a lot of the boys. If something happens to Morpheus, well, I wouldn't like to be in Lock's shoes. Lots of boys are going to hold him responsible. Enough talk, get back to work soldier.
Piece of Paper
Neo's Army. Meeting tonight at 8pm in Barrack 24. Come discuss the future of Zion, and Lock's controversial abandonment of Morpheus.
Masked Men Transmission
I attended a meeting last night in Barrack 24. It appears that the support for Morpheus is more pervasive and intense than any of us expected. One person stood out in particular, a persuasive and energetic young soldier that everyone affectionately called "the Kid." I choked down my hate and played a convincing Neo-phile. The violent hints towards Lock resonated well with the boys. After the meeting, Sgt. Clark approached me and asked me to come to another meeting tomorrow night. I will write more when I can.
Sgt. Clark to Pfc. Dwight
You seem like a bright young man. It's clear that you think Lock is steering Zion in the wrong direction. Well, how would you feel about playing a proactive role in getting Zion back on the course Neo set for us? We are working closely with Morpheus in an attempt to recover Neo's body.
Pfc. Dwight to Sgt. Clark
It would be an honor to serve under the Great Morpheus. If there is anything that I can do to assist you, do not hesitate to ask. I have always dreamed of meeting him, he's been such a source of inspiration to me throughout my life.
Transmission to controller
Still no contact with Morpheus yet. In the meantime, I've been attempting to incite anti-Lock sentiments within these fringe groups. There is a good chance that with a little gentle direction, the two groups within Zion will be at each other's throats. Zion would collapse in on itself. Mopping up the survivors would be easy.
Recorded Meeting
Sgt Clark: I'm tired of sitting on my ass down here. I want to hit the streets with Morpheus. I want to plant some bombs. I want to kill some agents. I want Neo's body back as much as Morpheus.
The Kid: Calm down. The time for action is soon, but you've got to be patient.
Sgt. Clark: Damn it! I'm tired of all this talk. All we do is talk.
The Kid: Well, I spoke to Morpheus earlier today.
Sgt. Clark: What?!
The Kid: He said to sit tight. He said that he would give us an unmistakable call to action very soon.
Masked Men Communication
I don’t know if "the Kid" is really in contact with Morpheus but I am following him day and night. If he talks to Morpheus, I'll know about it. Morpheus should have his guard down around his followers; it could be an easy kill.
Pfc. Dwight to Controller 2
Morpheus has gotten a message through! These underground groups are mobilizing terrorist attacks against machines as we speak. I'm not certain how many independent cells there are, but I fear that this could bring the entire Matrix down. Spread the word. Consider every Zionite you see an enemy, and engage them.
Pfc. Dwight to Controller 3
I just sent a message to our operative in the Machine Organization with lists of all known underground members. Hopefully there is still time for agents to disrupt the attacks. My cover has been compromised. I probably won't make it out of here. Good luck.
Transmission 1
I have successfully insinuated myself into the Machine Redpill Society. We should have little trouble recruiting and garnering support for our cause here. There appears to be something big in the works. I will investigate and report back when I know more.
Transmission 2
////////////transmission///////////////
Morpheus is an isolated violation of the truce and should be terminated immediately. The Truce is not broken. Eliminate Morpheus, then fall back into policing mode.
///////////end transmission///////////
Transmission to Controller
If Morpheus continues with these brazen attacks while every Machinist and Agent in the Matrix looking for him, I doubt that he will live through the day. Unfortunately, the Machines seem very dedicated to the truce. I will continue to try to build a consensus against Zion. If we can manufacture a war, our goal for permanent reinsertion into the Matrix would be expedited.
Agent 2 to Agent Gray
Sir. The Merovingian continues to grow bolder. He and his exiles used to crawl in the cracks and hide in the shadows of the Matrix, but now they wander the streets of Mega City in broad daylight, for all to see. We need to curtail his incursions before they are too pervasive to be controlled.
Operative Conlin to Agent Skinner
The Merovingian is now openly advertising smuggling operations. There's been a mass exodus of programs from the deletion queue over to the Merovingian. If this keeps up, the exiles will soon grow too big to contain.
Agent Gates to Agent Gray
The optimal solution is to capture the Merovingian, rather than kill him. He is too useful to delete. If we can return him to the source, we will gain important data on how and where exile programs are concealing themselves in the Matrix. With this data we could potentially eliminate exile programs altogether. Deletion of the Merovingian should be considered a sub-optimal solution.
Agent Gray to Agent Skinner 1
I have received several reports of the Merovingian's increasing activity in the Matrix. His methods are growing unacceptably disruptive.
Agent Skinner to Agent Gray 1
Agent Gray, our actions must remain in parallel. Once we have terminated Morpheus, we will reassess the balance of the Matrix. The probability of action against the Merovingian is high.
Operative Pierce to Agent Gray
Sir. Lupines and Blood-drinkers have just attacked Agents and took documents pertaining to Morpheus' whereabouts. The Merovingian apparently believes that we are too occupied with Morpheus to respond to these attacks. If I may speak freely sir, I believe that we should crush the Merovingian. We need to send a clear message that disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
Agent Gray to Agent Skinner 2
The Merovingian has openly attacked Agents with Lupines and Blood-drinkers. The effort required to delete the Merovingian is now commensurate with degenerative influence that he is exerting on the Matrix. We should delete him immediately.
Agent Skinner to Agent Gray 2
We must follow protocol. Once Morpheus is removed, we will proceed to Phase 2 of our plan. Complete the initiated deletion sequence but document all Merovingian agitations and relay them to me immediately.
Document
Initiate Phase 2: Merovingian Capture or Deletion. The Exiles' debilitative influence on the matrix has reached the critical threshold. The Matrix cannot sustain code corruption at this rate and remain stable. We will return the Merovingian to the source, or we will delete him.
Letter
I'm so close to the Merovingian, I smell of his cologne. He's been in a good mood these days, too good considering the Lupines' failure to kill Morpheus. He's been strutting around with a malicious smile across his face, the look of a child about to rip the wings off of a captured fly. He must have something big up his sleeve, but he's being extremely secretive about it. I'll remain vigilant and report any further developments. Ever your faithful servant.
Intercepted Transmission
Merovingian to Flood: I don't particularly care how unpleasant he is. He's a specialized tool for a particular task. If you can't stomach your assignment... well, I am sure I can find some menial work that you will find palatable.
Merovingian Operative Communiqué
I think the Merovingian might have bitten off a bit more than he can chew. Saying you want Morpheus dead is one thing, but what he's planning... well, I think it's a bit much.
Malphas to Flood
I know that the Lupines have failed the Frenchman. Never send a dog to do a man's job, eh? Well, I'd like to offer my services to the Frenchman as an apology for the incompetence of Ookami and her filth. We will have Morpheus dead within the hour if the Merovingian so wishes it.
Flood to Malphas
Your services will not be required in this matter. He wants you to stay out of the way. Why don't you go play with your dogs at the park?
Malphas to Seravicious 1
Ookami's botched attacks on Morpheus have tarnished our reputation in the eyes of the Frenchman. I suspect the Merovingian is going to an outside source to get Morpheus taken care of. We can't allow this; we need to keep our place at the table. We also need to teach that condescending little fop a lesson.
Seravicious to Malphas
Why don't we just go ahead and kill Morpheus? The Merovingian wants him dead, and I think he would appreciate us taking the initiative. With the Lupines' failure still fresh in his mind, this is a good opportunity for us to distinguish ourselves. We'll need to keep Flood occupied in the meantime.
Malphas to Seravicious 2
Yes. I like this. This has to be done right. The Merovingian specifically ordered us out of the way. Once the deed is done, he won't care about how it got done. I want you to take care of this personally, and I can't stress the need for anonymity enough. Mask your identity well. Leave Flood to me.
Malphas to Ookami 1
Well, Flood has been saying some nasty things about you and your pack. I've even heard the term "spayed" being thrown around; he said he can't afford to feed another litter of incompetent assassins. We may have our differences - we prefer blood to your bone, but with these inclinations, one body can satiate us both. We are after different pieces of the pie, so to speak, but that irritating Flood is keeping us from the feast. We need to hurt him and I have just the plan to do so, but we need your help. If you can keep him busy for the next 24 hours, we'll take care of the rest.
Ookami to Malphas 1
It would be my pleasure to keep Flood uncomfortably occupied, but I am not interested in doing servants' work, while you gain all the credit for killing Morpheus. What are you planning? I'll need more than just vague allusions to motivate me to do your bidding. I'll do nothing until you are ready to fill me in on this little plan of yours.
Malphas to Ookami 2
Curiosity can kill the dog as well. Unfortunately, time is short, so I will help you understand the situation. Your botched attack on Morpheus hurt us both, as we are unaccountably tied to you in the eyes of the Frenchman. We need to prove ourselves indispensable to the Merovingian or risk being replaced. Flood wishes us out of the way, but I'm going to kill Morpheus and in the process make Flood look incompetent. If things go well, perhaps we'll get rid of Flood altogether. Now do as you are told, I've already wasted too much time explaining this to you.
Flood to the Merovingian
Everything is working out exactly as you planned. Morpheus will be dead by the end of the day.
