I'm catching up on the story in the mission archives after being away for a while. I've been reading the threads about players taking over the story from here. I've never really participated in the RP world, so I'm kind of a noob in that area. Have players been creating their own stories up to this point and playing them out in events? If so, how do you participate in that? All I ever see on the MxO Player Events page are contests and radio stations. Or is this just about knowing the story so you can write in the RP section of the forums or stay in character in the game and keep it all in context?

This one's been stated before. Once you reach max XP, I think XP should automatically be converted to $Info. It would make me feel like I'm getting full credit for things I do in the game at level 50. You could use the org rep as a % multiplier, which would encourage players to get max rep. Rarebit has stated that there is already too much info floating around in the game. Obtaining and leveling all abilities costs a LOT, but the upcoming Binary Boy style collectors could be an $info sink in addition to collecting items.

Does anyone have this posted or archived? This is the one released right before Chapter 6.1. I used to download them myself, but I got lazy when MxO Archive and MxO Resource posted them. Neither site has this one right now. If you have this posted somewhere, please send me a link and I'll add it to my site. If you have the files backed up, send me a PM and we'll arrange to host the files on my site. Thanks!

This isn't an original idea, but it would be nice if MxO had a "Looking for Team" chat channel to make it easier to team up with other people in your org. My faction is small these days, so finding help for Pandora's Box or Area K isn't easy. The channel would also be good for lowbies trying to find a group to level. WoW used to have a "Looking for Group" channel, and it worked pretty well, IMO. They replaced it with a nice LFG tool, but people just use the Trade channel now when they want to recruit help. There is some spam, but it's not as bad as you might think. To help alleviate that, you could also create organization channels where people could share information, trade, and chit-chat, keeping the LFT channel mostly clear. A player can always turn off the org channel if it gets too busy. I know this has been asked for before, but I don't remember if or why it was rejected. Since we have faction channels, how hard can it be? In any case, designated channels for helping people get together in an MMO seems like a good thing to me.

I think the critical mission archive was a really good idea and allows new players to experience the story. However, the missions don't give you the whole picture. Live Events were an integral part of the story, especially in the early days. When I think about all the cool stuff that happened, it's a shame that new players can't experience that, or that old players can't do it again. Also, a way to archive Live Events might give the devs more incentive to have them more often. Now, before you call this unfeasible and close the page, hear me out. First of all, I'm only talking about four major events that, in my opinion, were an important part of the Chadwick storyline: - The Race to Find the One
- The Hunt for Morpheus
- Death of the Destroyer
- A Piece of Blue Sky
The question is, how do you archive a live event? I guess you could do something like world spawns or constructs, but I think the best answer is: Pandora's Box. Think about it. A lot of what we need is already in place. Minimal coding (Dracomet) work would be required, meaning it's low risk and Rarebit could do most of the work (great huh, bud?). Here's how I see it working with The Race to Find the One: - You pick up an initial mission from the Archive Vendor. Maybe it requires a Mission 1.1 token, but be sure to give it back so players can move on Chapter 1.2 if they want.
- Your controller tells you to meet someone in the mission area. The contact says something like: "Red-eyed agents have been attacking our operatives around the city. We need to find out more about them. They are using PDA's to search for something, but we not sure what they're after. Bring me a dozen of those PDA's and we'll do some more research. We've developed a device to aid you. It emits a carrier signal to the PDA's and should draw the agents to your location. You may get more agents than you bargained for, so bring some backup."
- You guessed it. The "device" is Pandora's Box with a different name. Opening the box spawns the agents that drop PDA's. You should be able to do this at any level, so you should be able to open the box in any part of the city and the spawns should scale to player level. Like Pandora's Box, I do think they should require a group of players and be very difficult to complete solo.
- Turning in the PDA's yields you another box with agents that drop Neo's RSI frags. All you item collectors can finally get the frags you are missing.
- Turning in a complete set of frags gets you a meeting with Morpheus, where he gives you his speech and shows you Neo's RSI.
- Next mission sends you to The Mentor (Morpheus), The Creator (The Architect), and The Seductress (Persephone) to hear about their mysterious dreams. You can't very well solve this puzzle in the archive, so maybe the operator can do it, explaining it without too much detail. This leads to a meeting with the Oracle, where she tells you about the Shapers.
- You could do a standard escort mission here, where you fight off operatives from the other orgs. It might be more fun to hide the Shapers as collectors around the city, maybe in the same areas as the live event, each one giving a clue as to the next location. After finding them, you meet with the Oracle, where she informs you that the "intruders" got one of the Shapers.
- Your operator uploads the final box, which spawns two waves of N30 Agents, followed by a few "Super Lightning Agents". Maybe they drop the second batch of Neo's frags? I forget how it actually happened. In any case, completing the box gets you another meeting with the Oracle where she gives you her final message.
- Of course, rewards would be in order for each box you complete.
I may break down the other events later, but you get the general idea. Comments?

For the first time since beta, I am taking an extended break from the game (real life, etc., etc.), and I'm not sure when I'll get back. As has been said time and time again, a major part of this game is the community, and I have enjoyed being a part of it. As a little gift, I am releasing a utility I've been working on: MxO Config (UserOpts.cfg for the masses ). Maybe a few of you will find it useful. Hope to see you again soon!

Don't you hate it when you find the perfect moment for a screenshot, press F12, then your computer freezes for 30 seconds while MxO saves the shot? This usually only happens on the first shot in game, but it is still annoying. I finally found the solution to this problem: move your screenshots to another folder. I just moved over 1000 jpgs out of my MxO folder. I figured I would clean up a little and make a "Year 1" folder. Once I did, the first shot now happens instantaneously.
I used to think that MxO was loading a screenshot engine and that's why there was a delay. Apparently, MxO is simply searching through all of the jpgs for the next available number. The more jpgs you have, the longer it takes. The devs really should just implement a counter in an INI file or something like that, but I doubt this is a priority.
Note that filenames will start over at screenshot_0.jpg, so when it is time to move the files again, make sure you don't overwrite your previous shots.

Given the current controversy about bans, I thought I would ask if this will be considered an exploit before trying it. The impending hotfix will temporarily raise red frag drops and vendors will buy-back abilities at 100% of the price. I'm sure I'm not the only one that sees a good way to make $info here, and without the risk of the Marketplace. Will coding abilities for the express purpose of selling them to vendors be considered an exploit?
My opinion is this should be allowed, since we need all the info we can get with the combat upgrade. Of course, I don't want to end up on the receiving end of the ban stick. :smileysurprised: Let us know please.

I started a new alt on Recursion recently, and I've been trying to level up using Spy abilities. As many of you already know, it's **bleep** near impossible to win in interlock on hard (maybe even medium) missions. I'm happy to say this is no longer a problem in CR 2.0.
However, I do wonder if it is a little too easy. I noticed NPCs are doing hardly any damage at all. At level 8 with no buffs, I can do roughly twice the damage of a level 9 NPC. I give 20-30 dmg per hit and they cause 10-15 dmg. Coupled with the fact that I have twice as much health as they do (500 vs. 275), there is no real danger, even when taking on multiple NPCs. My health rarely falls below 90%. When I put on buffed clothing, I'm pretty much invincible. While I know 2.0 is supposed to be easier at lower levels, is this right?
As a spy, I'm hoping my sneak abilities improve as I level up, because I'm still getting detected a little too easily. It seems like I should be able to inflict most damage from sneak attacks, and things shouldn't be quite so easy in interlock.

In Dev Journal 01, the following was stated about spies:
Spies I’ve also been working on revising the Spy tree. There are multiple parts to the revision, which will be rolled out in phases. The first part involves timed interaction with game/mission objects such as doors and computers. This is a prelude to adding a consistent set of rules under which Invisibility works. These changes are proper solutions for the temporary measures put in place a little while ago. The last part of the rollout will be the new Spy tree itself. The design is progressing nicely and I am very happy with what we have so far. You may see the first two items before the holidays while the archetype changes are dependent on the combat revisions (see below). For some reason, I was thinking spies were going to be addressed after CR2.0, but then I noticed the new abilities in the tree. So, is CR2.0 the whole shebang for spies, or is more work planned for later? I've been wanting to create a new character that focuses on spying, but I'll need to be able to solo missions, so I'm wondering if this is taken care of in CR2.0.

I'm still getting used to the new damage numbers, but I'm wondering if SMG abilities are causing too much. Against Lt. Morales (yellow-con), Controlled Burst does about 450 dmg and Full Auto Redux does almost 1500 dmg. Does this sound right compared to other trees? Granted, it is hard to pull this move off, but it is easier in interlock. Once you get it off, the fight is bascially over. By comparison, Aikido Tomo Nage does about 900 dmg the first time and 1100 dmg the second after resistance downgrades.
On the other hand, the full fight is about the same length, probably because normal MA tactics do more damage than SMG, so maybe it is balanced. What do you think?

Coding clothes is definitely more enjoyable with Update 7. Finding that perfect outfit with high resistance is fun, and there are many options to choose from. People are already starting to dress different for a more unique look. One exception seems to be glasses. I don't have any recipes for buffed glasses in my collection (which is quite large), but have any been added to the game? If not, I think we'll see everyone running around with launchers (yuck) and special drops. Overall, things are much better. I like how we have to choose between commonly available resistance and other buffs. It adds some variety to the game.
Now all we need is more space for all these clothes in the code archive. Please give it up devs! :smileyhappy:

I was one of the pre-order beta people that never received my copy of MxO Magazine sent to all pre-order players. I sent in a petition, but never got my copy, so I figured they ran out. Well, about a month ago, I was cleaning out my closet and found a white envelope mixed in with some other old mail. Lo and behold! It contained my copy of the magazine! :smileyvery-happy: I know there are some that actually did not receive it, so I've posted a copy on my web site: www.mxostory.com. Enjoy.
Reading the Paul Chadwick interview months later is very interesting. Many of the little "hints" given have since turned into real events. I think I found one exception:
There's even one player who will get to appear in a cinematic we have one mapped out so that there's only one path he can follow. Once somebody does that in gameplay, we'll use the character he's built and plug him into the cinematic we've otherwise already prepared.
Think this was supposed to happen when The Assassin was killed on the barge?

Not that we were ever gone. After a short stint with another
faction, we were not able to get our old tag back, so we regrouped as
The Company Elites. That changed today when some old friends
logged in to hand over the tag. What can I say? It fits
like a glove. I had the tag since Beta, and I missed it.
Feels good to have it back.
What other factions have survived since Beta? List 'em here. :smileyhappy:

While reviewing the MxO storyline, I ran across the riddle of The Mentor, The Creator, and The Seductress which was part of The Race to Find the One event. I admit that I've never solved this puzzle. At the time, I didn't even realize it was a puzzle :smileytongue:. There have been previous threads on the subject, but none led me to the solution.
My understanding is that:
- Each of the three "mysterious speeches" contained a special phrase. The phrases varied per server.
- All three factions had to work together to compile the phrases into one message.
- Somehow, this message was decoded to lead the riddle solvers to a meeting with The Oracle.
- At this time, The Oracle delivered her momentous speech to all redpills.
- This kicked off the Shaper portion of the event.
Is that how it happened? Does anyone have a list of the special
phrases for a given server and can show us how it was decoded?
Did you actually get to meet The Oracle, and do you have screenshots?
This one has nagged me for a while, and it would be nice to learn the
solution and see how it fits in with the story. Thanks.

Repost from the old forums. I'm not sure how long these links will be good.
With all of the new characters and twists, it is easy to get lost in
this story. I figured I would review the story thus far. The first
thing I did was gather all of the story links I could find... This is
gonna take a while to read. Anyway, here they are for noobs to catch up
on the story, or for veterans to review.
Most of these are links to DN1 articles and Sentinel issues. Of
course, some things actually happen in game. I found that Darconn of
Disconnected from the Iterator server has provided excellent coverage
of in-game events. I've included links to those forums as well.
I will try to keep this up to date as events happen. Feel free to
provide your own links, but I do ask one favor: please don't spam this
thread with opinions/complaints about the storyline (there are plenty
of other threads for that). Let's try to keep this one informational.
Thanks.
