It's been TantaIos all along, dearies: he kidnapped Viraconrida, sabotaged Khursun's signal, and killed him with a flame virus. TantaIos didn't even seem to care that sabotaging Khursun's signal would end up killing his assistant in crime, Glycon, who was on the same ship.

Days like this you go to bed feeling like it didn't pay to have got out of it that morning. We lost a good man... But Khursun beat him, even so. We know our bogeyman now, dears, and it's our turn to show him what a nightmare really is.

Officer Viraconrida's disappeared. Her crew mate Escondido is our acting Cypherite liaison officer, effective immediately. We don't know much about what happened, but scan intercepts show that another of her crew mates, Khursun, was in the Matrix with her when her signal was last detected, and he jacked out just afterwards. We're doing everything we can to find her, but it looks like there may have been foul play, dears. Keep your fingers crossed for old Vira.

Hello, dears--

We only met Meillak a few times, but he proved to us that not every member of Unlimit had their mind corrupted along with their body. We didn't know it at first, but there's no question now that Meillak has been helping us fight Anome by giving us pieces of Anome's life before he was awoken--pieces written by Caboclo, Meillak's friend who Anome punished in a terrible way.

Eventually, Unlimit figured out what Meillak was up to. I don't think this surprised him. Meillak's hacking of Machine programs--which have hidden, redundant data-gathering routines for just such an occasion--allowed the Machines to track the hacks back to Meillak himself. We intercepted this data and went to meet Meillak first, to try to save him from both Unlimit and the Machines.

It didn't work. There was an army of Unlimits right behind us, and Meillak didn't want to go. He sounded...he sounded tired. He said many things that we didn't understand, dearies, about what he thought would happen. He said that the Unlimit were doomed, and would die, and that he would rather go now, at their hands. He seems to have planned it somehow--planned all of this. He said it was his choice, and then, right before the end, he said that we would all have to make a choice...I think. He always was hard to understand.

Unlimit killed Meillak, dears, I suppose like he wanted them to. He sacrificed himself... I only hope that the rest of whatever he was planning works out like he wanted. But whatever happens, we won't forget him, will we?

My dears, you'll never guessed who I guessed about: Meillak! Yes, that odd Unlimit that everyone's been talking about, the one dropping Caboclo's snippets about Anome's old life in the land of dreams. I got to thinking about some things he'd said earlier, that didn't seem to make sense, and then something I heard through the grapevine that Gray said to his operatives, about another mysterious message, and next thing you know, Maruth rounds me up some Cypherite-curious Machinists, and there we are having a nice cozy chat with the cryptic eye-dripper down in the bowels of Eber Casino!

He talked a lot, but nearly as impenetrably as ever, and he still seemed frightfully agitated, poor thing. It was hard to make out, but it's something to do with Agent Gray, and timing... He has something more to tell us, dears, but he's waiting for something else to happen first, I think. He wants very badly to tell us. Ohh! I'm just dying to know what it is. This is going to keep me up all day, I just know it.

Well, dearies! A few of us were lucky enough to have a night out on the town with our new liaison officer, Maruth! And what a time we had, clearing those pesky EPNs off the public telephones! We just won't stand for this kind of disturbing the peace in our town, no sir!

Some dull Zionites showed up, but we played a little joke on them to give them the slip. It was a close call, though--they almost bored us to death!

Oh, you never know what kind of things you'll find down there. I keep most of them to myself, naturally ;), but here's a little burst of ones and zeros that I picked up the other day, which I might as well let you play with.

Anome's man, Weit, showed up in Downtown just the other day, mucking about with hardlines. He was able to rewire a few before operatives could stop him, and when that happened, immediately afterwards a whole truckload of his men would port in through the line, clearing out the whole area.

Fortunately, we got wise to him, and pretty soon he found that he didn't quite have the leisure he needed to rewire the phone booths. He ran off in frustration, leaving a trail of high-powered soldiers across northwestern Downtown.

Not to worry, though! They were soon cleared up. And I'm sure we'll get Weit pretty soon, too, unless he wises up (which seems awfully unlikely).
