Recursion Events - Recursion Wanted Wanted Tefnut 0 09/16/2006 17:21

Looking for a few people in each org/sub-org to help out in a project. The project will include Stories, RP and event writing and coordination.

If you are at all interested, please send me an email ingame (I rarely check these useless, eye-numbing, broken boards anymore) and I can tell you more about what is going on and how, if you like, you can help.

Still dead,

Recursion Next Renaissance - Recursion When Opportunity Knocks.... When Opportunity Knocks.... Tefnut 0 09/03/2006 11:23
NOTE: This is an independant story, and does not involve me or anyone else for that matter.

******************************************************
[face="verdana, geneva">I never like taking on the weird cases. They pay well, but the risk isn’t worth it...  until they pay me of course. Once the money is flashed under my nose I seem to forget every time I have had this same conversation with myself. You know… the one I am having right now, where I tell myself… Rakk,  don’t ever take one of these again.   It was another rainy day. Seem to be having more and more of them lately. Not that I mind the rain, at least not in general. I would love to sit on my back porch, drinking a beer, watching the kids play in the white picketed fenced in back yard with the wife and neighbors. Except I’m not married… anymore, have no kids or a house with any kind of yard for that matter. I have an office, which has a semi-comfortable sofa and a small fridge in the corner and a coffee pot nestled on top, two suits and an overcoat which doubles for a blanket. Oh, and did I mention a gambling debt that is so high that even I don’t know exactly how much it is anymore. Luckily for me I also have a benefactor of sorts these days. She pays me just enough to keep Silver’s boys’ pleasantries down to a few gut shots whenever they visit to collect. I got no complaints. I would have been pushing up daisies long ago if it weren’t for her and her generosity. Her rules are easy. Do the job. Don’t ask questions. Oh yeah, and the biggest one… no more gambling. She is good, that’s for sure. Once I picked up a pair of dice on the street some kids were playing with, and she was there before I had the chance toss them down. I wasn’t throwin’ for money… just to see if I still had it. She reminded me…  didn’t.[/face] What was I sayin… sometimes I wander… Oh yeah.. It was raining. Again. Be dammed if it wasn’t storming like no tomorrow. We must have the best sewer and drainage system in the whole *CENSORED* planet, for as much as it rains, it is never flooded or backed up. Gotta give it up to the Mayor, he keeps the city running smooth, at least if you are looking at things from the outside. But those of us who are NOT on the outside know a few different truths. You don’t survive long in the PI business without taking a case or two which go into parts of the city where you don’t want to go. Learn things you didn’t want to learn. Have people know your name you’d rather didn’t. Which is where she comes in. I’d finished delivering a certain package I acquired from a certain nare-do-well in a certain trendy Downtown restaurant to an associate of the lady. Headed home to my office with visions of drinking and passing out in my future. Seeing my door left partially ajar, I unholstered my perfectly legally licensed pee-shooter as I stepped in. Seeing someone sitting in my chair with the back turned to the door, I knew it was her even before she rotated the chair around. Her perfume filled the place. And she always wore the same perfume. Smiling, she looked up to me, puts out her smoldering cigarette in a pile of papers I have on my desk. I don’t even remember what they are. Burnt papers now. I laugh inwardly, and let a smirk show outwardly. She takes this as a sign I am pleased to see her. Or at least her money. She tossed an envelope towards me, which I catch and open with one hand. “No offence”, I tell her as I quickly count it. She nods her approval and waits for me to finish. More than she promised. More than ever before. She always paid me more than whatever fee we agree upon. She’s good to me. Waiting for me finish counting, she sits back slightly in the chair. Out of the corner of my eye I see she is wearing a very short lavender skirt. It compliments her alabaster legs, which I am sure are smoother than silk. Not that I would know. She was obviously out of my league. I would never think of trying to touch her. Her money is the only thing keeping my head connected to my shoulders right now. Can’t mess with that. Walking over to the large iron safe in the corner of my office, I fake putting in a combo and open it. No need for her to know the lock was broken long ago, before I picked it up in some old warehouse in the Barrens. I picked it up mostly for show, to impress all my customers. Not that there have been many to impress. Only her for months now. Leaning on one of the chairs positioned on the other side of my desk, I ask her if she wants a drink. She never takes one. She asks for malt whiskey. As I move over to my novelty bar, which is encased in a large wooden globe, I hear her stand and walk from behind my desk, stopping right behind me. When I finish pouring the drinks, I turn and hand her hers. She pauses and swirls the glass, causing the ice to clink against the glass and the other ice cubes in the glass, making that wondrous ice-clinking sound which is only produced when whiskey is involved. My eyes drink her in. Even partially covered by her coat, her sexiness is apparent. Curves right where they should be and ample. As I devour her with my eyes, she thanks me for the delivering the package on time. Says something about what a good job I have been doing and how she may have an opening in her organization soon, and if I played my cards right, it could be mine. She said the part about playing cards in a mocking way, which pulled me out of my devilish trance. Yeah… my gambling. I thank her, and assure her even though I appreciated her business, and her generosity, that I liked being self employed. The freedoms it gave me, I said. Glancing around my office, she pointed around the room and said she could see why. Again, mocking. I finished my drink and wanted another, but not in front of her. Don’t want her to see me crawl into myself. Not her. She saves me from that train of thought by pulling something from her jacket and handing it out to me. I take it. It’s electronic, that’s for sure, but what exactly it was eluded me. Kinda cellular-phone-ish in appearance, but I could tell it had at least one other purpose. At least one. She tells me that she needs some help. Someone who works Downtown needs something cleaned up, but good. She said it needed to be cleaned by someone who wouldn’t draw attention to said friend or to her. I instantly regret holding this thing in my hand. Holding this thing in my hand was the same as already agreeing to help her out. To give it back would be to reject the job. Reject her money. Reject her help. Reject her. I nod. Not even waiting for me to actually agree, she then gives me my instructions. Simple really. Call this girl. Get an address. Meet her at the address. Clean up. Disposal. Get away. Make a call.  Easy as pie, she says. Except I am more of a cake man myself. I laugh to myself as soon as I think that. Sounds familiar. I must have heard it somewhere before. When I ask how much she is going to give me for this one, adding that it is on the tail of a previous job and that I am tired, she smiles coyly. She reaches up and runs her small hands through my hair, and looking me dead in the eyes she tells me she will buy my card from Silver and tear it up. I should have known then that this was going to be more than a clean job, but I was too lost somewhere in her violet eyes to. I simply, very slightly nodded my understanding as she leaned upward, standing on her tip toes, pulled my head down to hers and kissed me. I was too shocked to do anything but kiss her back. I was still stunned when she sat her still full and untouched drink on my desk and walked out of my office, letting the door close behind her. I leaned on my desk, still dazed. Reliving the moment. Startling me, the phone rang. I answered it, and was surprised to hear her voice tell me that speed was a necessity and for me to get my *CENSORED* off the desk and get going. The call went dead with a click.

Recursion World Discussion - Recursion Since so many people ask..... Since so many people ask..... Tefnut 0 07/06/2006 18:25
  Tefnut:

Tefnut (Tefenet, Tefnet) was the lunar goddess of moisture, humidity
and water who was also a solar goddess connected with the sun and
dryness (more specifically, the absence of moisture). She was the
daughter of the creator god, mother of the twin sky and the earth
deities and the 'Eye of Ra' as well as a creative force as the 'Tongue
of Ptah'. Her name itself is related to water -
tf is the root of the words for 'spit' and 'moist'. Her name translates to something like 'She of Moisture'.

Tefnut was generally shown as a woman with a lion's head, or as a full
lioness. She was occasionally shown as a woman, but this is rare. She
was shown with the solar disk and uraeus, linking her with the sun. She
was often shown holding a sceptre and the ankh sign of life.

Related to moisture, she was also linked to the moon, as were other
deities of moisture and wetness. She was originally thought to be the
Lunar Eye of Ra and thus linked to the night sky as well as to dew,
rain and mist.

As with other water deities, she took on some form of a goddess of
creation. As the 'Tongue of Ptah', she was one of the gods in Mennefer
(Hikuptah, Memphis) who helped Ptah - that city's main god - with
creation by carrying out his will. Yet in the cities of Iunu (On,
Heliopolis) and Waset(Thebes) she was more of a female form of her
husband-brother Shu, whose main task was to start the sexual, creative
cycle and give birth to Shu's children.

More can be found here   but would not be proper to show in this venue.

And just for the record.... I didn't know about that part when I picked the name.... just knew she was a very, very, very old egyptian goddess and had ruled in Heliopolis, which I thought kinda was matrixy. But there you have it....

The Lounge Matrix Universe What happens when we die? What happens when we die? Tefnut 0 06/19/2006 01:09

This is a question I have had for quite a while, and which I need to be answered so that everyone agrees, as I am using it in an upcomming story. What happens to the code of your RSI, or that of an unknown bluepill still in his or her little pods, when their bodies in the real have died and they are permanantly disconnected from the Matrix.

There is code involved. The code that is your appearance, and which governs your every action and reaction. Emotion. Memory. What happens to this code when you die. Does it get returned to the source, and if so, what triggers it to do so? Does it merge with the Floating Feast and wind up in the preverbial bellies of the exiles? Does it just hang around?

And for that matter, is the code of a bluepill who is deceased treated diffrently than that of a redpill? The machines can control the blue pills. They are physically linked to them. They know when one dies. That is not necessarily the case with a red pill, whose jack-in devices are out of the hands of the machines, and quite possible are of a diffrent design, with diffrent protocols. Where when a blue pill dies inside his pod, at the moment of death, a trigger is enabled that would take care of the remaining code, purging it from the system, the death of a redpill, who has code that also exists inside the matrix may not. That code may just... linger.

So that is the end-all be-all of my question. What happens when we die? I have never seen or read anything that could reasonibly explain it, and I am looking for an answer that can be used as canon, if possible.

I thought it would be nice to share a few memories or stories about someone whom has been in this place for a very long time and whom I have the upmost respect for. I don't think you can mention the Machine Organization and not have the image of ole MK pop up somewhere. (or be Zion and flagged more than a few minutes) Not only has he remained a force to be recconed with in the Machine Organization, but also has been a valuable and irreplacible member of the community as a whole. Sharing his knowlege of this place with even the likes of me. He has, in my opinion became a solid PART of this world and community. Yay! Feel free to share an MK story or to tell me how much time and space I am wasting...

Too bad he likes NASCAR... and fishing.

Not too long ago, on a eventless Friday night we coaxed him to crank up the old Machine Radio station so we could dance around a rooftop and yip yap about nothing special. Being ever diligent, he downloaded and played everything I and the rest requested, then typing "Ha ha" or something like that in area chat, he started playing a .... remix of the horrid Cotton-eyed Joe. If it was possible, the remix was even horrider than the origional, and then and to make matters worse, he gave me the play-by-play of the NASCAR race which he was watching as he played.  For the rest of the night and for over a week thereafter, my dumb self couldn't get the **bleep** song out of my head. I was singing it everywhere, even when I was out to lunch and shopping with my mother and grandmother. And .... I actually KNEW who won the racecar race that night.

Foiled again!

*wink*

Luv you MK.

Recursion World Discussion - Recursion Last Will and Testament of Teffers Last Will and Testament of Teffers Tefnut 0 03/26/2006 08:36

Wow.... I hate when I put things off to the last minute, but I seem to do it so often, you'd think I would just accept it by now...Tef... you are gonna make demands on yourself and procrastinate the bejezzus outta them to the last minute... accept it and move on...

ok...Im good now.

The biggest question people have been asking me lately is, "Hey n00b... why do you even try to pvp...you suck?" The second most common question, and the one to which I will actually answer is, "Tef... Why are you leaving?"

Well that is a hard thing to answer. For starters, I am addicted to this game. And I don't mean that in some slang teenage kinda way. I mean if it were crack  would be pushing *CENSORED* on the streets to get my next fix. You all see how often I am logged in... With that said, I realized that I don't have as much fun here as I used to... but I keep logging in, keep spending all my time here. Some people may say .."Ewww, how pathetic." ... and if you are one of them, then join the club because  also think it is pathetic. And I realize I have a problem, so I have to stop it.

We interrupt this post for the following public service announcement:

Now is the time to stop reading and start flamming if you are one of those people... I got the gimp stuff done first, so if you are at least a moderate flammer, you can stop reading and start flamming.... I would.

We now return you to the post already in progress:

There are also other factors that go into my decision to cancell and delted. 1. The game content is horrible. Ask yourselves how many times we have been promised things will get better if you only wait until the next...whatever. Well I believe a year is sufficient time. They haven't offered me a discount yet because the content sucks. 2. The new combat system. I would be lying to myself if I were to say that the new combat system doesn't factor in to my decision. It does slightly. I don't get it. And I think SOE is going to find a lot of new players cancelling relativly early because of it. Just my opinion.... nuff said. There are also other stupid reasons, which I shouldn't go into, but the addiction thing is the most important one.

OK.... At this point I step down from my paulpit. Bt I keep it near for later and quick use.

Now that I have possibly started a small flame war ((hoping for a large one, but a small one will do)) I want you guys to know how much I will miss this place and all of you. For a year (both in and out of game) I have been involved in this game or project or whatever, and it has been a great experiance. I am so glad that I had the chance to meet most of you and become friends with a whole lot of you. There are some really great people here in this place of ours, and I am honored to be able to be a part of that, for only a little while at least. Thanks for having me.

Recursion World Discussion - Recursion That 13th Floor Movie That 13th Floor Movie Tefnut 0 11/14/2005 03:56

Wow...

I never even heard of that movie before playing this game having read about it and seen it quoted on these boards more than once. After reading about it and being curious, I searched using my friendly internet Google search and found quite a few sites dedicated to it, with discussions that turned out to be way more interesting to the movie itself.

Being bored and having a free credit card to spare, I went ahead and ordered it last week, and found it in my box yesterday afternoon. Now to get something out where I am in merely a week, is a miracle... so I was factoring this miracle into the movie...

So I placed it in my computer last night , sat back and started watching. I let it run from opening credits to closing credits. It occupied almost 2 hours of my life.

That was about it. I can agree it was similar to the concept of the Matrix, and yes it asked the questions "What defines life?" and "What defines real?", but that is pretty much where it ended. I thought the basic story itself was not a little lacking, but a whole lot lacking. It was almost like watching an episode of Sliders, if any of you remember that horrid show, only it was almost 2 hours long and there were no commercials. And I was really needing a commercial break.

Yeah, it had a computer world. Yeah you "Jacked in" to it, and yeah there was green. That is pretty much where the similarities ended in my opinion.

If any of you saw it, please feel free to enlighten me on why this is such an "awesome thinking movie." It is always possible I was in a mood and just missed the obvious.

Recursion World Discussion - Recursion The Keymaker ??? The Keymaker ??? Tefnut 0 10/23/2005 10:03

After watjching Reloaded again, something came to mind which I hadn't thought of before. When Morpheus and Trinity rescue the Keymaker, and are being persued by the police, two agents appear and start chasing them also. After following Trinity with the Keymaker on a motorcycle, and Trinity hands him off to Morpheus on a pair of tractor trailers, the agenst state that Trinity is unimportant, as she takes the off ramp, and that the Exile is who they needed. Cut to about 10 minutes later, right after Morpheus falls from the trailer onto Niobe's car, the agent tells the Keymaker, after the keymaker tells him "We only do what we are meant to do" or something to that effect. The agent replies, "Then you have one more thing to do, you are meant for deletion" again... paraphrased.

Since the whole reason for the anomoly is to restart the Matrix, and so much other things have been put in place for to ensure the One gets to the Source to reboot the matrix, and apparently the Keymaker is part of that. He is meant to give the One the key to the Source, why are the agents trying to stop him. Why is he marked for deletion, if he is part of the system of control?

Just wondering... Anyone have a good explaination?

Part 1: Fish out of Water

The engineering level was her favorite place to be. It was more secluded than the living areas. Almost no one came here even during waking hours. Plenty of time to sit by herself and contemplate her new "life."

At first the shock of the real was too much for her. She had imagined she was in a kind of coma or and that this was just all a really bad dream and she would wake up at any minute. But deep down she knew that was just a fantasy. The realness of the real was far too intense to be anything else but real. And the realness saddened her.

She could tell her new "friends" or “shipmates" were overly disappointed that it was her and not her brother that they pulled up from that muck. They had even told her as much. Ophelia, from the start, had had no use for her. Most of the crew was friendly, but there was something there... something unmentioned, but there nonetheless, that told her that she was not a member of this crew, this group of people, the only group of real people she had ever known, but rather a passenger.

It was Ying and Yang who had suggested that she be given training. And training she got. Thirty three minutes in the operations chair and she had all the knowledge of ship maintenance and repair she could have ever hoped for. With that knowledge and a mop, she was transformed from a redpill to a glorified janitor in a matter of hours.

Not all of her time on the hovercraft Ellipse was work. She did learn basic histories of the human race and Zion and our war with the machines. She felt obligated to be a part of the team and did her duties to the best of her abilities. When the operatives were jacked into the matrix, she was allowed to watch from the rear of the bridge. The ship's Operator, Xev not wanting her to "touch anything she didn't understand."

But none of that compared to the loneliness she felt. It was no surprise to any of the crew of the Ellipse when, after coming home to Zion to recharge, Lawanda requested to be left behind.

Billeted in a common sleeping area and given the job of recharging battery cells, Lawanda grew increasingly depressed. She often wondered if this was the life Antonio had envisioned for himself. If he had known the whole truth would he have taken the red pill or would he have come home and went to bed. Would he have been thankful for the potato sack shirt her would get to wear or would he long for the clothes hanging in his closet at the Paddock Club apartment?

In her job as a battery recharger, she met a good many people, most of whom she also saw in the large common sleeping area where she was allotted a bed and a small trunk to store her belongings. She met a few people she liked, who were friendly to her, but most people kept to themselves knowing she was the one who was freed by accident. Even when Lawanda would try and spark up a conversation with someone she would meet, they would either answer with short, direct responses, or arrogantly walk on by. It didn't take very long for her to stop trying to initiate conversations with "those" kind of peoples.

It had been explained to her before many times by many people that her "brother" was not really her brother at all. That they both just, at times, shared the same matrix induced dream reality or virtual space. She and he, in fact, like the whole human race were created and grown from spliced clones embryos of who knows how many respliced and recloned donors. They may have been physically located hundreds of miles from each other. She couldn't understand that, wouldn't buy it.

The last person she let tell her this without a scowl was a co-worker she met named Ishii. Ishii told Lawanda she had decided not to train as an operative when she was awakened since she didn't like violence, which sounded good to Lawanda. Ishii was the first person to warm up to Lawanda and Lawanda liked her company. She wasn't too demanding, and loved to talk. There were no awkward silences between them, and Ishii didn't push Lawanda to reveal anything about herself that she wasn't comfortable with.

Lawanda was surprised when Ishii first spoke to her. When Ishii walked up to her and said "Hey... you're Lawanda." Lawanda was so surprised she jumped.

"Wow... someone actually talked to me..." she mumbled.... though Ishii heard her.

"What are you talking about? Oh, the arrogant ones giving you the cold shoulder?" Ishii asked...

"Well... I don't know if I would call them arrogant. I don't ev..."

"Nonsense. Arrogant and self involved is just what they are. You would think that they would be more friendly to someone who was removed without being aware, but they act the opposite. Rudeness and arrogance. I've seen it before. Don't worry though... they don't like me much either, and I have a feeling that we are going to get along just great." Ishii said, the last bit a bit coyish.

Lawanda nodded her head, and was relieved to finally have someone to talk to.

Ishii was the person who first mentioned and then showed Lawanda the engineering level. She he pointed out and explained the machines and consoles that controlled them. Lawanda instantly fell in love with the place and started spending all her spare time there. Listening to the steady hum of the machines. Alone.

The Engineering level was her favorite place to be. As she sat in the shadows, she heard a beeping coming from one of the console displays. Standing up to see what it was, she noticed the small display flickering then turning white. In very small almost illegible print, a message appeared.

LAWANDA... IMEUT IS STILL ALIVE.

Lawanda looked around hoping to see who it was that was playing this cruel trick on her, maddened.

"How Rude!," she thought, but could see no one in the level.

Another message typed itself out:

YOU ARE NOT ALONE LAWANDA. WE CAN HELP YOU FIND HIM.

She Quickly though, Who is We?

WE WANT THE TWO OF YOU TO BE REUNITED.

"Who's we?" Lawanda asked.

YOU WILL SEE. FIND ISHII. SHE WILL GUIDE YOU.

The screen quickly fluttered then went blank.

For the first time in Lawanda's whole awakened life, she smiled.

I can’t remember seeing this topic brought up in an awful long time, so here goes…

Who was the Merovingian?  What is your theory on whom or what he is and/or was?

Some obviously common theories to get the conversation started:

1. He was a program written by the machines to be yet another form of control, I.E. being the Watchdog of the exiled programs, controlling them so the chaos they produce is lessened.

2. He was a previous One. Or at least he is the remnant of a previous One’s RSI.

3. He is simply one of the first Exile programs, and has, by his nature and longevity, been able to influence certain aspects of the Matrix, especially older programs, for his own “profit.”

4. Anything not covered in 1, 2 or 3.

Part 1 Wake-up Call

“AAAANTOOONIIIOOOOOOO!”

She had no idea what was happening. A second ago she was looking into his eyes… or was it an eternity ago? She had no concept of time or her senses now. She couldn’t describe what she was seeing, if in fact she saw anything. She heard no sounds because she no longer understood concept of sound, hearing both nothing and everything. Her body was numb, burning, freezing and ached miserably all at the same time.

#\\\STILL TRACKING HIM///#

She awoke underwater with an instant panic, reaching for the surface, only to find resistance. After clawing her way through the membrane that encompassed her, she used her bleeding hands to push her way to the top as she broke free to the surface.

#\\\CLOSING IN, MA’AM///#

The sound started as a silent gurgle which quickly erupted into a searing high pitched wail, which echoed for what seemed like forever. She took her first real breath of air in an immense inhalation that filled her lungs until they felt like they would burst. Coughing and gasping she exhaled. Her following breaths came short and quick, aas quick as her heart was now racing.

#\\\ALMOST GOT HIM///#

Panicking, she turned too and fro, her head feeling abnormally heavy and tipping backwards. She was able to make out only blurry shapes and distant lights, and she offhandedly wondered where her contact lenses were.

As one of the lights grew larger, approaching her with greater speed, she hazily made out a large grey mass. As it closed in on her, she was suddenly grabbed by a large metal tentacle which wrapped around her chest and back raising her up out of the muck she was sitting in. Heart racing, she felt something at the base of her skull right before the world started spinning and she once again lost all comprehension of space, time and herself.

#\\\GOT A LOCK, MA’AM///#
#\\\OK..LET’S MAKE THIS QUICK PEOPLE///#

Ffalling in mid air…..

Splashing face first into dark liquidly nothingness….

Sinking….

I thought for fun I would ask everyone what their funniest TRUE noob moment in MXO was.

***********************************************************************************

When I was an itty bitty Tefnut, way back a million-billion years ago, I was in Sobra, having just finished a bunch mission there and needing some time to rest my teenie-weenie fingers, hanging out at a Hard line, yapping as usual.

Someone walked up to me, all clumsy and all like he was hurt, holding his side. I thought he was hurt from a fight and, using my renew RSI, gave him what I thought was the medicine he needed. He laughed at me, said thank you then offered me a pill. Up to this point, I hadn’t really paid attention to the pills.

Anyway, I accepted the pill, and he told me to use it. So I did. But at the same time he must have used an ability because my RSI turned all silvery like the Terminator from the 2nd Terminator movie. I freaked out. I swore to God that he had given me some kind of Matrix drug that did something to my RSI. I started yelling at him and telling everyone around that he was a Matrix drug dealer. He was walking around in the /drunk mood, which just set me off even more.

I swore even later that night, waaaayy after the effects wore off, that those matrix drugs were messing with my abilities... that must have been why I was dying so much. Needless to say, I didn’t take a pill again until I was almost a 40, even after I found out that they were health pills and not some kinda of RSI crack. True story.....
