Do want, as they say. We'll work out a price. Black or white, but I reckon the black one's cheaper.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned this recently. After all the hype it's had over the past couple of years, it's finally out today! Who's got it? With any luck it will have popped through my mailbox sometime today. (I realise there's another thread about Spore, but the title isn't very obvious. )

I'll be putting my next computer together within a couple of months, and wondered what people's thoughts were on the components I've currently got my eye on. But then I thought, hey, why not make this a thread anyone can use to get opinions on what they're buying too? Be it a little upgrade, a second graphics card, or a whole PC.
And if it lets us show off a little, so much the better.
Here's what I'm looking at now:
LG 24" LCD, 1920x1200 resolution AMD Phenom X4 9950 Asus M3A32-MVP motherboard 4GiB Corsair RAM (DDR2 1066Mhz) Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 1GiB OCZ EliteXstream 1000W PSU The usual Arctic Cooling and Zalman fan-based cooling LG Blu-ray player
There's stuff missing from that list (HDD, soundcard, case, etc.) but I've already got those.
I've picked the vanilla Radeon HD 4870 because I can add a second one in through CrossFire at a later date if I feel like going nuts. I don't plan on waiting, either. I know Intel are coming out with their Core i7 chips soonish, for example, but they'll be too expensive anyway. (And I hate Intel for forcing their annoying jingle into any advert that so much as mentions them.) Edit: Updated with what I actually bought in the end.

Anyone else looking forward to this? It's a first-person game coming out for PC, PS3 & Xbox360 where you race across the rooftops of a futuristic city parkour-style. I think it looks utterly brilliant, and will be a nice change from typical FPSs.
Here are a couple of trailers. One about the story (no in-game footage), and an awesome one with in-game footage: http://ve3d.ign.com/videos/game/949...PC/Mirrors-Edge
And here's a site that seems to be keeping tabs on the game's progress: http://www.on-mirrors-edge.com

I figured I'd list the current timezone offsets so people with parties and other events can make their posters appropriately. See, the US had the clever idea of starting their daylight savings time way earlier than the EU, so it's bound to throw a few people off. I'm only including info about US and EU timezones. If anyone knows what's going on in Asia and Oceania, please post it. Northern America Shorthand name Full name Abbreviation Offset Pacific Pacific Daylight Time PDT GMT-7 Mountain Mountain Daylight Time MDT GMT-6 Central Central Daylight Time CDT GMT-5 Eastern Eastern Daylight Time EDT GMT-4 Europe Full name Abbreviation Offset UK time BST GMT+1 Western European Time WEST GMT+1 Central European Time CEST GMT+2 Eastern European Time EEST GMT+3 All these regions are currently obeying daylight savings time. So a live event taking place at 5pm Pacific (PDT) will happen at 1am the following day in the UK (BST). These offsets are valid until the 26th of October.
Edit: I hate this forum. Wouldn't let me use proper tables.

Oh, if I lived in the US and hadn't insulted SOE so much.
Anyone thinking of looking into this? Imagine: the MxO player community having someone on the inside on their behalf. The job may just be as an intern, but that's how the mighty Dracomet started.
Granted, they don't have any positions within MxO that I noticed (though Planetside gets one for some reason ), but if one of us could get the Web Design position... Inject a bit of sense into the SOE collective.

Well now, the Architect makes another appearance at last! He obviously has a hand in the Intruder's creation, especially when you consider the Scanline crew seem to refer to the Intruder as a 'prodigy'.
Cool to hear the Intruder's voice. Evidently he has no time for idiots.
*Wonders if this will be the main cinematic topic this time round.*

A few minutes ago I was on Syntax, and there were no NPCs anywhere. No gangs and no NPCs in missions. Other players were standing stock still, and their faction names couldn't be retrieved. It wasn't a normal case of being desync'd from the server, though, as I could still hyperjump, open doors and use abilities.
After giving up and logging out, I can no longer get into Syntax on any of my characters there - it keeps getting stuck at 'Loading Character'.
I don't know about Vector, but Recursion is fine.

Heh, yeah, it's my turn to take a break from MxO now. I'm not going for good... I hate leaving threads, and if I actually were leaving I'd make the effort to say t'ra to everyone I know personally. Instead, this post will just serve as a means for anyone who cares (or notices) to see why I've vanished.
I've got some things to deal with and sadly MxO doesn't fit in with all that, so I'm setting it to one side for the time being. I'll be ignoring DN1, my fellow Machinists and my faction for about a month or so. IC, I'm not sure how to explain Procurator's absence, so let's just say he's gone to roam the Real for no very good reason. I'll work up a better explanation later.
While I'm gone, any faction issues should be addressed to its leader (as they should anyway really) d4sh, and any crew issues should be forwarded to acting captain Gookin. Not that I foresee any problems...
Have fun, kids, and I'll see you soon.

The few of us who've received an FM-1500 have a problem: we only have one of them.
The only tree that's built for the FM-1500 is, of course, the Duelist (Handguns) tree. However, all the most powerful moves require dual handguns, which we don't have. To activate these moves and actually use the tree, we need to revert back to shoddy weaponry like the FM-900. This just won't do! I say that anyone who's earned the privilege of holding an FM-1500 at all should have as many of them as they can usefully equip. I mean, it's not as if the System has to pay for them.
Discuss! (And then agree with me.)
(Incidentally, if this request actually does get anywhere, I think it's only fair that Zionites and Mervs get org-specific weapons first, before making the Machinists' advantage even greater. But let's not make this thread about that.)

Is anyone else getting major problems with the forums? That is, besides the usual ones. I'm getting images vanish at random, missing stylesheets (links turn black on a black background, etc) and even some JavaScript functions stop working so I can't put italics in my posts.
It's not my browser, it's not my computer.
One thing I've noticed is that occasionally I'll see a request to maintenance.station.sony.com or something, which tells me that there are missing files and my browser's being redirected to their pathetic apology pages.

Anyone else pre-ordered the Orange Box on Steam and got the 'beta' of TF2 yet? (I wouldn't call it a real beta; the game's finished. All they're looking for are patch-worthy niggles.)
So far I've just listened to the commentary and faffed about on my own as an engineer, but it's looking groooooovy. " />

Eh-heheheh. Made you look! Nah, this is a good thread. I know we're not supposed to talk about CSR matters here, but I can't get in-game and I reckoned I'd thank Brewko publicly. I merely wish to retract statements I made long ago about... My opinion of Brewko has improved considerably, as I've been reading reports of how he's been helping to get our faction over a series of bugs. He's been in-game dealing with d4sh, our faction leader, on a regular basis and has been pushing the relevant parties to help on the technical side of things. So cheers Brewko, on behalf of the Glitch Society. (By all means lock this thread before anyone dares to counter my view. Just... don't move it. ) (Why am I getting a feeling of dread by posting this? Bah. I'm up early in the morning working on coursework - I need a distraction.)

That's right kids! We've bagged an exclusive interview with one of the Matrix's most prominent figures: the Effectuator. We sat him down for a few minutes (it was difficult, let me tell you), and gave him the works. By which I mean we asked him questions. Check out the interview on our Web site: http://www.siradio.fm/index.php?sho...mxo-effectuator And don't forget: our MxO Anniversary Party will be going down any minute now over in Debir Court on Syntax. Be there! We've got some surprises in store, including another interview which you'd kick yourself for missing...

I don't mean a copy of the game, I mean the whole thing. What if you bought MxO off SOE the way they bought it off Warner Brothers/Monolith? Say you came into a fortune (won the lottery, whatever) and had enough money to buy the whole thing and comfortably support it for a few years. I'm talking $100 million here, which has been on offer in the EU lottery (in pounds ) a few times. What would you do with the game? I'd buy MxO off SOE. I'd try to hire the current Devs (who knows, they may want to stay with SOE even if I owned the game and offered them higher salaries), some of the old ones if I can track them down and more besides. Some of the Devs would be tasked with keeping the game running at a basic level (cinematics, missions, occasional LE appearances), while the majority of the team would be assigned to start the game from scratch. A better engine would be built which wouldn't scare any future Devs from tampering with it, so all those lovely features people have been suggesting would be possible. Instanced dungeons, new fighting style, melee weapons, faction/org hideouts, real White Hallways, complex crafting, out-of-game chat etc. We wouldn't release the game until we had all those features. This isn't ever the case in other games because they don't have so much money they're willing to spend on just the initial development. All it takes are enough developers and the right staff to manage them. Imagine all those professionals working on the game, but a gamer like myself in charge, knowing full well what I/we want from the game. Then we'd splash out on mass marketing and reel in the subscribers. The game would be so good we'd have at least 100,000 subscribers (minor compared to what other games get). What's that? £1 million a month? Easily enough to pay for staff and servers, I'd've thought. But we'd have more subscribers than that eventually, 'cos this would be better than any of the other MMORPGs - the only reason an MMORPG'er wouldn't want to play the game would be because it's not their favourite genre. Heck, I'd halve the subscription cost, and hold regular competitions to win free months. What's more, I'd personally oversee the different departments, watching all the little things like making sure CSRs are friendly and fair, the Web team apologises if they botch things up, keep players informed as to what's going on, etc. Bearing in mind, of course, that this wouldn't be run like a normal business: they want profit. After the initial expenditure, I'd only be after enough money to keep it rolling indefinitely. It's all reliant on a miracle like winning $100 million on the lottery, but still... one can dream.

Sorry. I didn't want to make a whole thread about it, but the 'Are we going to get the ability to edit our own posts?' thread is locked now, and there isn't a better place that General to post this... Anyway, following on from the above mentioned thread, I agree that we shouldn't be allowed to edit our posts at will: there's always the risk of people backpedalling and covering their tracks if they've said something they shouldn't have. The old system was alright, in that we at least had the chance to correct mistakes within the couple of minutes after making a post. As Walrus has said, however, this forum doesn't have a timing function (which doesn't surprise me in the least. This software, as I've claimed numerous times, is not fit for a company as big as SOE). He said they might implement a timer, at which point we'd be able to get our two minute limit (or whatever it was) back. But I've got a better idea: archives! Keep a copy of every single version of a post! Every time a person edits their post, a copy of the old version is bunged in the database. Devs and moderators will be able to look at these past versions by simply clicking a link (next to, say, where the delete button is). Maybe they can go a step further and be able to revert to past versions at will, or even perform a Wiki-style 'diff' on them! Maybe even let players view past versions, but that might confuse some people. This makes us happy as we'll be able to edit our posts at any time we like, and the Devs and mods will be happy because they won't have lost the ability to track naughtiness. Being a Web developer myself, I've already got a database structure for this and a few fragments of code floating around in my head, but, well, you know the SOE Web Team. Don't expect miracles. :-/

Alright dudes? Now, I'm pretty sure that something like this has been suggested before (I mean, it's pretty obvious, really), but I've had a look and couldn't find it, so here you go:
As you know, we've got the ridiculous continuity problem of Agents chasing Machinists in restricted areas. It's been claimed that no operative should be allowed access to all areas of the City by default (despite that fact that we're actually set missions in these areas), and the Devs have made a valiant attempt to explain the problem by saying 'they're just doing their job.' But come on! Loyal Machinists were getting attacked in a meeting with the Architect. You can only get away with so much. I seem to recall the Agents from the movies having some modicum of intelligence.
So, how about we keep the Agents chasing after Zionites and Mervs (though, strictly speaking, Agents should even be chasing Mervs in Richland, but I'll gloss over that for now).
But for Machinists we replace the Agents with hostile (and powerful) groups of Exiles. The reason I think this is a decent solution is because the game already has a spawning system in place: the EPN attacks in Morrell. We do the same thing here, but replace the EPNs with a bunch of NPCs from the local gang. Obviously a single level 255 Exile is daft, so you'd have maybe... four level 60s or something.
The only hurdle (that I can see) would be tying the existing spawning system to the Agents' danger-meter. But as far as I know there's just a variable flag that can hopefully be accessed by the spawn system.
There it is. Tell me what you think.

Does your faction have a long and interesting history? A past fraught with battles, trials and tribulations? Then tell the world!
On Wednesday the 19th of April I'll be reading out faction profiles during Procurator Speaks on Split Infinity Radio.
This is the perfect opportunity to tell your story, let the world know who you are.

Alrigh' you lot?
Those of you who tuned in to my last Procurator Speaks may remember I mentioned faction profiles. We'll here I am to remind you of them!
Are you in a prominent faction (on any instance)? Does your faction have an interesting background and history? Then let me know! Write a report on your faction (anything up to, say, 1000 words - no, you don't have to write that much ) and send it to me at procurator@siradio.fm. I will read out your profile for all the Split Infinity listeners!
Now, remember that Procurator Speaks is an in-character show. As I'm a Machinist, any profiles from Merovingian, Cypherite or EPN factions may be read with some... hesitance, but I'll try to be as fair as I can.
The profiles will be aired during my show on Wednesday the 19th of April (time to be confirmed). But don't forget to tune in this Saturday at 8pm GMT for my next Procurator Speaks!

Been to a faction or organisation meeting? Witnessed a serious conflict? Want to tell your friends about it, but don't want to give them a bunch of screenshots or horrible log files?<strong> Then this is the tool for you!</strong>
http://www.glitchsociety.com/format-logs/
1. Take your evil looking MxO log file (located at <em><game directory>/Profiles/<your account>/chat.log</em> ; 2. Grab the lines you need; 3. Paste them into the form linked to above; 4. Set the options if you need to (instructions are at the bottom of the page); 5. Hit Format; 6. Copy the code that appears and paste it wherever you want!
There are all sorts of options available:
- Choose from botched HTML (for these very forums), good X/HTML (for Web pages) or typical BBcode (for simpler forums like phpBB); - Choose to filter out any channel you want (like secret faction chat or /tells); - Colour the names of important people (or colour their entire messages); - Format [System] messages to look like <em>*action sequences*</em>; - Make MxO-chat formatting ({i}, {b} and {c:######} tags) visible wherever you post the logs.
Make the Data Node 1 forums presentable: format your logs!
(Just make sure you actually log the meetings/events you're attending: use the /logstart command in-game or hit Alt+L.)
Obviously I'm open to suggestions to improve the tool, but I'm rather busy finishing off the rest of the faction Web site.

(I posted this as a reply to another thread earlier, but I don't think it'll get noticed by the right people in a thread entitled 'I was right!' )
I don't mind that they've done certain things to Hacker/Coder abilities, like decrease Stun time, increase the casting time of Dev Field and the like.
What I have an issue with is the Viral Accuracy/Defense inbalance.
I know that it's possible for someone to get up to nearly 200 points of Viral Defense without too much effort. However, I have done all I can to get my Viral Accuracy up, and can only just reach 100 points. Sound fair?
It has become a time-consuming process to kill even a one-chevron NPC one level above me! This isn't right. Okay, they reduce the damage done by my attacks, fine - Hacker/Coder abilities are no longer teh pwn. But considering that I no longer even hit them with my attacks every attempt means the time taken to kill an NPC has at least doubled! If you're going to take away my hit-rate, at least decrease the re-use timers or increase the damage. It hasn't become difficult to kill NPCs, just more time-consuming and boring.
Or am I missing something and people are getting more than 102 Viral Accuracy? If so, how on Earth did you do it? (I'm level 50.)

DJ Procurator’s on his way back to Syntax and the Split Infinity airwaves, and this time with a brand new, entirely in-character show. If you want to write a letter to Procurator on anything related to the Matrix, life as a Machinist, the marvels of Zero-One etc, write to procurator@siradio.fm. Hey dudes!
Many Syntaxians and Vectorians opted into the ProTax Secret Santa Project last week. People were matched up randomly, and everyone was sent an e-mail telling them who they had to get a present for. (Some people didn't get this e-mail for whatever bizarre reasons, so I'll be sending another one out after I've posted this.)
This 'ere is a feedback thread for the Project! Tell us what you thought of the idea, how you think it was handled, how it could be improved.
But most important of all: tell us what presents you got! Are you happy with what you were given? Let us know, and TheTaxidermist and myself will decide on a best and worst present, the givers of which will receive a prize! (A booby prize for the worst gift, mind, so don't go thinking you can be a miser! )
Remember everyone has until Boxing Day (26th of December) to give their present, so don't complain if you haven't got it yet.

Just wanna let you know I will be holding my tryout for Split Infinity Radio at 6pm (GMT) today (Sunday). We'll be holding a little pre-Recursion-party party in the men's toilets in Club Avalon on Syntax!
Tune in by bunging http://www.siradio.fm in your media player! (/radio play http://www.siradio.fm works too...)
To find the men's loo, head into Club Avalon (Midian Park) and go downstairs. Look around the floor there and you'll spy another set of stairs heading down. Go down there until you come to a door, and go through it. The men's toilets are then the second door on the left. Phew...

TheTaxidermist and Procurator are proud to announce the ProTax Secret Santa Project!
We've come up with a Secret Santa game that everyone in MxO can enjoy. I'm sure you all know how Secret Santa works: register your RSI's name on the site and you'll be assigned a lucky person to get a Christmas present for - and someone else will be assigned to get you a present!
Christmas is a time for everyone to get along, so let's stop the ganking (only for a few minutes, if you insist) and start the giving! *Coughs.*
(Though if you're shy, you can send the prezzie through Tax's or Procurator's Vector alt characters - and remain anonymous. Our alt character names will be posted nearer the date of the draw.)
Head over to http://protax.greyfusion.net and sign up. You'll be sent a confirmation code by e-mail which you must tell either TheTaxidermist or Procurator or else you won't be entered into the draw. You can send us a /tell, an e-mail in-game or post it in this thread (don't worry, it's not a security concern: the code just lets us know you are who you say you are when you register).
This is only open to people on the Syntax and Vector servers, as the Kings of Never are running their own Operation: SecretSanta for Recursion.
So, get registered and start thinking of ideas for presents. Merry Christmas, everyone!

(( The first three parts of this story were posted elsewhere around the start of October, so as to explain my absence from MxO while I’m at university, stuck behind their firewall. All posts after the first three are new. ))
‘This is a most… unusual request.’
Procurator straightened his jacket and began playing with the sunglasses in his hands.
‘Yes, I know. We’ve already discussed the nature of my request. Has it been approved?’
Agent Gray stared at Procurator, unblinking.
‘I have spoken to my superiors, and your suggested plan shall go ahead. Please remember that we are placing considerable trust in your ability to see this through.’
‘Good. You’ll not find it misplaced,’ said Procurator. ‘When can I expect the access codes?’
‘They will be forwarded to you within the day. Intricate scheduling is required for this exchange to go unnoticed by your fellow operatives – the timing must be precise.
‘I have been reminded to ask of you the status of your new program.’
Procurator rummaged around in the inside pocket of his jacket and pulled out a PDA, on which he began to tap away.
‘It’s very nearly complete. This will work, you know. I’ve honed my skills to perfection, if I do say so myself. Even your programmers would be hard pressed to come up with something like this little beauty anytime soon.’
‘I am not at liberty to discuss our resources Mister Tonks,’ Agent Gray responded, raising an eyebrow. ‘Just as long as we get the program.’
‘You’ll get it, have no fear of that. But only when I’m finished with it. I told you I don’t know how long this will take. It could be days, it could be months.’
The two stood in silence for a moment. Bluepills walked around them on their way to whatever meaningless jobs they had. When busy, Center Park was perfect for meetings like this.
Procurator put his sunglasses on.
‘You’ll hear from me when it’s all over. T’ra.’
‘Good afternoon, Mister Tonks.’ Message Edited by [TGS]Procurator on 12-05-2005 10:10 AM
