I'm going for Occam's Razor in my approach to MxO ending, to whit: "Of several acceptable explanations for a phenomenon, the simplest is preferable.” The game may be ending, but the Matrix isn't. I'm seeing the Machines simply rebooting the Matrix and finding a way to block out the current Redpills, while the Merovingian has found a way to protect the Exiles he deems worthy.

Agreed: I'm not exactly working on an endgame for my characters, but before MxO ends, I'm hoping to RP or write a bit involving Sieges or her brother Merrill crossing paths with their father and explaining what happened as best as they can. This would be a bit of a brain-breaker in Merrill's case, since he was "killed" by Unlimits and their dad has been mourning his son's "death" ever since, not quite as much as he's mourning Sieges's disappearance, since he had some closure on what happened, but he still doesn't know what happened to Sieges.

To Kabell: You were a dad to my two little gals, and while you broke their hearts, IC, you'll always mean the world to them. I think your way of tossing me into the deep end of the pool, as it were, was the best way to get me to grow up, and while I may have questioned it at the time, I realize it was for the best.

To The Great Wyrm: "Perfect enemy" does not begin to describe what I really feel about you. You angered me, but I always admired and respected you. We may have slammed heads constantly (correction: I slammed my head into the second button of your vest), but that didn't mean I didn't care about you, because I do. Our paths may have diverged and we may have ideals that are completely at cross-purposes to each other, but frankly, I always saw each other as the yin to the other's yang. You mean the world to me...

To Tranque: "Through the fire and the flames we carry on". We've been each other's wing-man through some dark times, and you've driven Sieges-the-character to distraction, but hey, that's what family does: the people you love the most drive you the most crazy. But together, and with the family around us, we made Familia Grigori into something awesome.

To Fenshire: Maybe I over-reacted to some IC stuff, but I take the blame for being too dang sensitive. You're an awesome guy and a great friendly adversary. I may be picking up WoW as a casual game, so maybe some day soon you'll spot a snarky-sexy Night Elf named Morraeon.

To ZippyTheSquirrel: You always made me laugh, and I suspected you had a crush on Morraeon (who doesn't, except for That One Guy...).

To XElite: I wish there was more time for us both: you helped Sieges with some issues which she didn't dare bring to the family, for fear of worrying them all too much, and for that, I'm grateful.

To The Endless Void: I feel bad that I didn't spend more time with you, especially when I finally got my head around Void (now that's a scary thought... O.O :: Laughs:: ), but I'm glad to have known you. And I have to admit... you're such an awesome guy, I've got a bit of a crush on you.

To The Devil's Advocates: Things may have hit the rocks in the end, but when we were at the height of our success, this thing of ours was incredible, and I'm proud to have carried the name.

To Familia Grigori: Our time in MxO is coming to an end, but we're moving on to something that's likely to be as enjoyable and exciting as what we have, and we'll be making memories just as crazy and exciting as we did here. You're a "wicked awesome" bunch of folks, and OOC, I consider you the extended family that I wish I had IRL.

Yeesh, it's like watching people argue about the will or who started the fight at Cousin Muriel's weddding, while Cousin Muriel is on her deathbed -.-

I wish I'd been around more to have taken a bigger role in this, but it was an utter blast and I completely enjoyed myself. Thanks for the memories, and peace out, fella.

For me:

1. Run all the Neighborhood Contact missions and jot down all the friendships/rivalries between the characters

2. Run the Archive missions I haven't done (probably on Sieges's brother).

3. Come up with an explanation for who put the hit out on Sieges which resulted in her being infected with a sentient muscle toxin, and tie off at least that RP loose end.

4. Get Sieges hitched to her beloved PeriodDouble

5. Get Morraeon's Demon Army Coat

6. Enjoy the last 60 days of something that has meant the world to me.

This has to be one of the most balanced reports on What Went Wrong with MxO. It doesn't point fingers, but it does name the issues. Thank you for saying what needed to be said. I'm looking forward to Part 2.

Mmm, MetaLogic, SenaDe, Janyce and I have been brainstorming ways to extend the family's story into CoH. Looks like it's going to be an utter blast, and frankly, planning ahead is helping ease the pain of MxO being shuttered.

It looks like the Familia is moving on the City of Heroes/Villains, and once the Rogue expansion goes through, we'll be really tearing up Paragon City.

I'd go for the first one. We've got the cinematics to show the storyline, but the scenery in this game... stunning stuff that needs to be remembered.

It's been a good four years... I'm sad to see it end, and I'm a bit frazzled thinking about all the stuff I haven't done ingame, which I'll be scrabbling to do in the next two months. Currently MxO and a hysterical little browser-based MMO called Kingdom of Loathing: Imagine a game that parodies every fantasy, sci-fi, and game trope you can think of, and which includes a lot of incredibly silly weapons (everything from a "broken sword", to a foam finger, to a "cool whip"), fighting classes ("Turtle Tamer", "Sauceror"; my character is an "Accordian Thief") and monsters (I'm currently in the middle of one long quest involving a war between hippies and frat boys)....

Quite a few.  Zion always seems to pull out a strong showing; EPN, Gerik and Lt0brien play.  Machine-side, there's Illyria and b1t.  Tekmon seems to be holding up the Merv side.  And we still have no Cypherites.  It'd be pretty darn nice to have some more Machines, Bayamos!

I've been spotty on attending, mostly because real life has been more haywire than usual, due to my kitchen being remodelled (plus I've been limiting my time on DN1, but I won't get into the reasons why). Once that's done, I'll make it up to you folks.

I'm with you on that: It's understandable if you're running an Exile character, but for a human -- unless you're a Machine or a Merv operative -- it borders on bending canon.

But I wouldn't mind an option where you could legit create an Exile character, and go through a different sent of introductory material. Instead of taking the Red or the Blue pill, you're called into the Source, and the Architect has you chose Deletion or Exile
