What follows is a story that I wanted to post a while back but never managed to do so.  It details Hyzenthlay's entrance into the Matrix.  Initially her character was very introverted and afraid.  However, due to interactions with humans, like XElite, and the crew of the Cenobite, she blossomed into the fearless exile she is today.

"..."

"Do you not understand?  Delete them."

"But..."

"These programs are erroneous.  The deliberate waste of system resources is prohibited.  You have your orders.  Delete them at once."

"Yes, I understand."

The sudden, abrupt correspondence ends.  It is dark again.  Time slows down where even the fraction of a milli-second lasts for an eternity.  Panic and fear overwhelm my being in a flood of what can only be described as emotions.

The echo of the voice still lingers like a fog.  In the void, I see a minute spec of light in the distance.  It radiates like a beacon, calling to me.

In a moment that can only be described as madness, I react.  Faster and faster I move towards the light.  I feel myself beginning to take shape as legs strike the darkness.  A thump begins to intensify in my chest as I get closer.  Leaping towards salvation I burst through the light as if it were a window, shattering the darkness behind me.  Green code infuses my essence and I take form.

The blinding light diminishes into a beautiful tapestry of pinks and blues.  The wind whips through my body as I descend from the heavens.  Below the buildings begin to take shape as I spiral towards the ground.  Then there is darkness again.

My eyes wince in pain as I open them to find myself amidst broken glass and pavement. 

"You ain't supposed to be here are ya?"

Standing up slowly, I stare at him.  The man is peculiarly dressed and clutching a dark glass bottle.  He chuckles as he takes a long drink sitting against the building, soiled in dirt and liquor.  It was the first interaction I had had within the simulation.  I had never been noticed before.

I feel exposed as insecurity looms over me like a blanket.  The pinks and blues have faded as the sky darkened in wake of the moon.  Stars begin to illuminate the sky as I rush off into an alleyway.

"You are not authorized..."

I freeze.  My chest feels like it is sinking into my being as I hear the words echo from a rooftop high above me.  It is the same voice from before.  A system voice.  The system was hunting someone.  The shots that were fired struck fear in me as I hide in the shadows.  My thoughts race.  It is then that I realize...

"I do not want to die."

[Frozen]

Like so many other redpills, I sometimes go into the old mission archives.  Completed operations, recorded and played back for the benefit of newer operatives, to show them how we got to where we are today.  My redpill colleagues think I do it for the $information, or for the potential boost to my neurokinetic level, so I just smile at them amiably and nod.  But I know they’re wrong.

I always go back to the same mission.  I can’t help myself.  Like each time before, I silently buy the same ticket and activate it, and then mindlessly rush through until I reach the point I care about, the only part that matters to me.

My heartrate increasing slightly, I enter the Machine building.  Sometimes I want to run inside, sometimes I want to delay it as long as possible.  But it doesn’t matter, because each and every time I still go in.  No matter what I happen to be feeling that particular day, I always go in.

Each time, I enter this segment of the recording of the past, ignoring the prime movers.  They’re not who I’m here to see.  Instead, I search out the background players.  And when I find the one I’m looking for, I stop and I stare into my own face.  It is always unsettling. 

I look up into my own eyes, and I remember that my eyes were blue, even though I cannot see them clearly behind the dark glasses.  Sometimes I want to freeze the program, and see myself as I used to be, just for a little while.  Sometimes I want to scream at him to run, to not let himself/myself take part in this, this perversion, but I know it would be no use.  It’s just a recording.  He/I am a just a recording, a projected image with very limited responses, and what’s done is done.   But there are also many times when I enter this archive with a broad smile on my face, and I tell him/me “yes, you must agree to this, because you will gain so much more than you will ever lose, more than you ever would have thought possible.”  My previous self just looks at me curiously when I do that, because he doesn’t understand, which usually makes me smile again.  I really have changed.  But in the end it doesn’t matter, because he’s/I’m just a recording, after all.

In the archived mission, I look into what was once my own face.  My face, for countless years of hunting down redpills, of protecting the simulation and our civilization that depended on it.  But now I can smile at my own bland, impassive expression, as my new self tries to challenge his old ways of thinking.  Because I know what’s going to happen to him. 

There are times when I’d like to shake him, or slap him, or kiss him…to do something, anything, to wipe that non-expression off his face.  To shock him.  To hint at the horrors and wonders of what he’ll come to know, and what he’ll become.  But because I know this is simply a recording, I’m satisfied with his quizzical look of not-understanding, because I know he’s not prepared to accept these changes.  Not yet.  Not now. 

Maybe not ever. 

Not that knowing the future would have mattered, in the long run.  Refusing an order would have resulted in a swift return to the Source.  What was done is done, and it cannot be undone…assuming, of course, that Seraph never regains his cheat-code enhanced abilities and rips me out of what is now mine.  And it is very much mine, just as much as the body I’m looking at used to be mine.  And I will fight for it to remain mine.

He’s still staring at me with that same puzzled expression.  And as I look from what I was once to what I am now – a living, breathing human being – I wonder again why I keep coming here.

“Operator,” I say softly, my eyes never leaving his face.  “Freeze program.”

Just for the lulz, I was thinking that the following could be done for the constructs to spice them up a bit:

• Erosion effect added to building textures.
• Level 75 Assassin placed on the barge.
  • When killed drops a Desecration token.  The token is redeemable at Fumigator for various new (recycled) items. (TBD)
• SSR Security is now infected with the Fly Virus.
• Periodic quakes affect the island.

• Blue Skybox added.
• Level 70 Sleepwalker named "Mr Flibble" added to Debir Court.
  • When killed drops a Lucid token.  The token is redeemable at the Sleepwalker collectors for new (recycled) items. (TBD)
  • 5% chance drop of blue version of Sleepwalker bandana with increased buffs.
• Piece of Blue Sky concert stage added showing archived videos from contest.

Sati's Playground Quest Idea

Sati's playground is full of many nooks where a little girl can gleefully play hide and go seek with any operative willing to devote some time to finding her.  Once she's discovered, she'll reward you with some toys to play with!

Premise

The idea is that a stationery Sati NPC (like a contact/collector) is located within the construct.  Hiding in a random room of the numerous buildings, she waits for someone to find her.  Once you interact (double-click) a spawn of NPCs (like her toyboxes) will emerge for you to fight.

Once it is over, she'll vanish and reappear in another random location to again wait for a player to find her.  The NPCs can drop tokens (like the Sleepwalker marbles/Kunoichi shuriken) that can be traded in for special rewards.  Given the difficulty in finding her, perhaps the reward could be something worthwhile to encourage participation.

Possible NPCs:

- Red-eye Agents
- Commandos
- PB3 Commandos
- Unlimit

Possible Prizes:

- Red-eye Agent shades
- Commando Boots
- PB3 Commando shirts
- Unlimit pants
- Red-eye Dual handguns

Prize levels/trade requirements/buffs are up in the air but this is just a basic concept that I think would be fun.

- It is modelled after the current Meson rifles but upgraded to never destabilize and fires a blue pew-pew.  Boosts accuracy, damage and defense.

- Same as current model but with a boost to accuracy, damage and defense. 

CYPHERITE
Vengeful Bandana

- This bandana is grey like the traditional standard Masked issue.  It boosts accuracy, damage and defense.  It also boosts IS regeneration.

- These shades are modelled after the Void shades (male) or N'wings (female) and boost defense, damage and accuracy levels for all attacks.  It also boosts IS regeneration.

Anywho, these are just concepts and a good way to kill time.

The Truce has been over for about 60 hours now and we've done nothing but argue, debate, name-call and yap about the reasons behind the stances of the two largest and most influential factions in the history of this organization.

Both sides have very valid reasons for taking the stances they have.  The only problem is that you all insist on arguing your cases like either side is going to budge.  Both of you have gotten so angry and so hostile towards each other that many of us are in dismay.  You are the examples, the role models for many of the other factions and are both highly respected.

I'm asking that you respect each other's viewpoints and move forward.  You can't change anyone's minds and shouldn't waste time trying.  We all still work for the betterment of mankind and yet we're so divided right now that we're weaker than Ebola and her band of jack-yankers.  Rise up and be the great factions that we all know you are.  Because frankly, this is getting us no where, real fast.

I encourage everyone to remain open-minded about this state of affairs.  We must be united or else we've already failed.  Don't do this for me.  Do this for the organization, the liaisons, the system and the millions of people who depend on us to protect them.  Zion may be innocent or they may be lying dogs.  Regardless, we must be the symbol of our people.
