Community General Discussion Third Renaissance? Third Renaissance? zeroone506 0 06/04/2009 04:12

Few years ago, a user posted some weird (OOC) encounter in the game, where some guy talked big about how the official story sucked, and he was just a wheel in a huge machinery which would "overthrow the system" and impose their own ideas on the community, some kind of storyline with player involvement etc.

Then, the same guy appeared on the forums, and started talking EVEN BIGGER in an EXTREEEEEEMELY sophisticated language, a.o. saying things like "there are things going on in the undeground and there's nothing you can do about it", and referring to each post by its time and date.

A while after, some internet ads / website about "The Third Renaissance" started to appear, and later on, this group apparently organized some kind of player events inside the game.

A player called "stewart daniels" speculated about a connection between that and that "big shot" player from before.

Anyway, I've never got what that all was about, and didn't have the possibility or time to find out, either.

Anything come to surface since then? Anyone wishing to drop the veil, now that it's all over?

The Lounge Off-Topic Discussion Origin of "I blame Keith"? Origin of "I blame Keith"? zeroone506 0 06/03/2009 04:49

Just something that came to my mind... after an unsuccessful (and maybe somewhat lazy) Google search, I'd thought I'd ask here:

Where does the popular (internet?) catchphrase "I blame Keith" have its origin? Like "spam" or "giant enemy crab" also have their definite origins....

Also what's the story with the MxO character Keith01? Saw Walrus referring to him, and also some Youtube video about him.

Community General Discussion (extremely stupid?) question regarding zip code (extremely stupid?) question regarding zip code zeroone506 0 06/02/2009 10:58

So I'm still trying to establish a stable account.

This is quite a stupid question, but I don't quite get it and it't  been quite long since I first subscribed, so yea...

Both on the "general account info" and on my credit card info, I'm required to type my zip code. Right now, it's the zip code of my house (been that way since I first looked into it few days ago) - is that correct (in BOTH cases), or should it be the zip of my bank?

Community General Discussion Would it be THEORETICALLY possible to create a single player version of MxO? Would it be THEORETICALLY possible to create a single player version of MxO? zeroone506 0 06/01/2009 17:47

I know that, in practice, it's against the copyright... but theoretically, would it be possible to turn MxO into a single player game?

In such a single player version, it would be possible to run around the world, with all its (limited) interactive features, doing quests and missions, experiment with useropts. etc. etc. - just without the multiplayer factor (i.e. events, pvp, teaming up etc.)

Also no lag anymore SMILEY

I've seen this idea being brought up a few times here, and seeing as how I've always been more of a "single player" in MxO and been a huge victim of server latency (and still am), I'd be very curious if such a thing were POSSIBLE at all - in terms of what's already on the client-side, and what requires server information.

I know some people here are quite in the know on such things, so any ideas?

It just occurred me that a mirror was also done of the previous MxO forums (remember, there was once a different layout and stuff), and as far as I remember, it did work interactively.

Some people here wanted to mirror these forums (would be a sin not to, after all) - any progress on that? Just very curious SMILEY

Gameplay Discussion Missions and Storyline Rarebit's story summaries Rarebit's story summaries zeroone506 0 06/01/2009 10:12

I think I've found all that are on Broadcast Depth (incl. the "Week Reviews" earlier on), but they aren't complete:  between Chapters 8 and 9 everything's missing (at least I didn't find it), and some earlier summaries I copied and pasted in my own files  (like 7.2, for example) seem to be missing now.

Has anyone compiled a comprehensive, chronological list of Rarebit's summaries, or is there any good way of "singling them out" on DN1 (except for limiting the articles to "development", which doesn't give much)?

I might've missed some announcement or update, but what is this item? Does anyone know?

Yea. At some point, it starts to LAG very badly, the movement freezes, the music starts violently looping for a few seconds - and then my game window simply shuts down.

Of course, things like "technical support" or "server maintenance" are history now, so I guess it won't get better?

Great "good-bye run". Really awesome.

PS: I've already forgotten how bad lag used to get. There should be a single player version of this (like GTA), in case anyone's gonna emulate... uh, whatever SMILEY

I just watched through the list of fixed animations (from the Winter Holiday update) again, and having looked through the entire ability tree (especially Operative), I couldn't find the following abilities anywhere:

  • Bash
  • Low Bow
  • Drop Kick
  • Freedom to Joints
  • Sliding Volley
  • Controlled Burst

Also featured: "Shadow Phoenix Pill (item-based move)" - what item is that, and since when is it in the game? Something from the new quest, or what is it?

Maybe I'm just had a blackout / dumbass attack (uh... haven't slept much... headaches), but as I said, I couldn't find those in the ability tree.

Guitar Pro (I assume everyone knows that one) is capable of bending up notes by full, half and quarter steps, however, after listening to it, it seems the quarter step is a bit bigger than it should be - maybe I'm wrong, but somehow, the quartertone between two neighboring tones seems to be closer to the higher one.

So anyway, does anyone know a software which can create quartertones, or even twelfthtones, precisely?

Gameplay Discussion Missions and Storyline How has the story evolved (generally)? How has the story evolved (generally)? zeroone506 0 03/08/2008 13:57
Hi! I don't know, perhaps someone remembers me, I'm that guy who... ... no? ... well...

Anyways, I left somewhere in the middle of chapter 7, and haven't really followed the MxO storyline since then (my interest suddenly went from extremely high to zero, why, I don't know), except maybe for the cinematics, a few storyline summary articles and something I caught from some forum threads.

Sadly, I don't see myself going to catch up with or delve into the story anymore (come back to see the reworked animations and Datamine and probably leaving again in a month or so - still lacking enthusiasm and increased real life occupations), but some interest in the game's development surely remains.

I'm not asking for a detailed plot summary or something (it's on DN1, after all), but I'm curious about some general things:

What main story arcs, developments/changes in situation and revelations have occurred? I've got basics such as the war or the Intruder, but not that much.

Has anything being revealed in relation the movies' storyline, anything that would change perspectives when watching (except for the reinsertion denial)? What's with that investigation on the pods?

Anything significant/interesting added to the universe?

Also, in your opinion, how has the quality evolved? I read it was to become more complex, detaied, intervowen and continuous before I left (something like that). Does that apply? Is the story (or writing) "exciting", or how much in comparison to previous times? Basically, what am I missing lol?

Community General Discussion the new leaving thread of the week the new leaving thread of the week zeroone506 0 07/27/2007 14:19
No, this is not a hoax this time (if your computer says it's April 1st, it's probably bugged).

Yea, I know I don't happen to be one of those "greatly respected players who have contributed incredibly much to the community" everyone will miss, but I thought I'd make this thread in case one day someone asked: "Wait a second, where is that non-stop arguing zero dude?"

So yea, I'm leaving MxO. I'm not going to delve into lots of points and reasons, but basically, I've simply lost my interest in this game and it's story, and am tired of the constant lag and bugs and something not working all the time, and the apparently very limited possibilities and outlooks for this game.
The lack of interest then doesn't make it worth anymore to sustain/overlook these demerits.

I haven't played or followed the game for about 3 months now, and I thought the best thing to do would be simply cancelling my account. Before you say "you'll be back" - yea, I entirely don't rule out that one day, I might decide to resubsribe (for a month or whatever).
Maybe I'll get a better internet connection, or suddenly catch huge interest in the storyline, or simply want to see MegaCity again.

Anyway, good bye for now.

A question: I heard something of 6 months being the longest time my characters would be saved, and being deleted after that. Is that true? Or do the characters remain in the database infinitely?

PS: My current (temporary) internet connection sucks so much, it can't load any pictures at all. I'm getting a new one in a week or so, until then, has the live event picture issue been fixed, or are they still missing?

Community General Discussion What's all the fuss about Downtown lag? What's all the fuss about Downtown lag? zeroone506 0 04/04/2007 03:42
What exactly is or was the problem?

Was it the fact that world interaction was delayed by one second? Apart from being a minor problem, just right now I was in Gracy Heights and it took me more than a second to launch archive missions. I've also experienced delays in missions in areas other than Downtown before.

Is it worse movement performance? I don't know, almost everytime, or often when I went into Kedemoth or Mara/Achan, the latency indicator got red and the performance sucked.
Experienced this in other areas, too. I've been to those Downtown areas several times in the past, and can't remember those being more laggy than others, apart from that minor delaying problem.

I know it's  been removed and stuff, but what major problem have I missed?
The Lounge Off-Topic Discussion Role of brain, nerves and body in music? Role of brain, nerves and body in music? zeroone506 0 03/11/2007 11:17

When performing music, the complex move sequences are all saved in the brain, including techniques that increase capability, and recuce exhaustion.

The body parts in demand also need physical training - muscles, joints, breathing.

Does the learning process only train the body and burn information into the brain, or does it also improve communication between brain and body? That means, you theoretically have the moves saved in the brain and your body is capable of performing it, but you can't due to the brain having insufficient control over the body.

I'm just interested in how exactly this all works, and what all happens during the learning process.

(Of course, this doesn't only go for music, but also for everything else - but I'm particularly interested in this aspect.)

The Lounge Matrix Universe The Architect's Matrix designs The Architect's Matrix designs zeroone506 0 03/11/2007 10:56
Here, a ridiculously trivial question - can't believe this is the first time I think of it.

First, the Architect creates a perfect Matrix where no one has to suffer. Failure, because people can't accept perfection as reality.
Then, he creates a fantasy/nightmare world. Failure, because people start scrutinizing, and fearing.

So then, an intuitive program comes to the solution to let 1% out, and all of this causing the Anomaly.

Hm. Why didn't the Architect just design a realistic world, proceeding from how it was before the Machines were invented? I mean, that's what he did in the end - but what was so difficult about it that he needed the Oracle's help, and this anomaly/cycle was necessary?

Why not just "hmm, paradise doesn't work, nightmare doesn't work - k, then let's try reality". Does that need intuition? Maybe people would just reject it less, and the crop losses would be on an acceptable level.

And then, I'm still wondering why these people should be contained in Zion - why not just extract them so they can die in the Real, or just killed inside the System so they don't cause trouble - they're gonna be killed anyway.

And was the anomaly an effect of this real world solution?

Gameplay Discussion Missions and Storyline Questions about the Merv 6.2 plot Questions about the Merv 6.2 plot zeroone506 0 02/16/2007 11:57

Since I try to pay attention to details and consistency, I found a supposed inconsistency in this event:

"The computer message in the preceding mission's second phase already announces "meeting at Mjolnir".

In this event, the fact that Mercury announces this event as a novelty and without referring to that message can be explained by the fact that the Merovingian(s) didn't tell him everything, so he couldn't use their information to deceive them about his knowledge. Edit: And Mercury of course pretends not to know about the found information he maybe had helped to place.
But then, Ookami says "Somewhere in Magog", and upon some player's suggestion, "yea, probably at the hammer".

Now, maybe that message was referring to a past meeting at the same place, but I do think it was referring to the gathering in this event.

So, Ookami should have at least said something like "This confirms the information we gathered from that computer, let's check it out", and already know where to go from the start on."

(6.2.4)

How was Raini involved in all of this?

Was she part of the conspiracy, or just a distraction used by Thallia?
How did Raini know about the conspiracy if she wasn't part of it?
Or was she, considering the commando squad appearing to stop the operatives hindering whatever she had in mind?

On a more general note:

From what did the General try to distract whom, and by what?

From his kidnapping of Sati?
He did that quite a time after he started the plot. Or was it still supposed to be going on at that point?
And, in the cinematic it happened very surprisingly and quickly - I wonder how that needed some large-scale gang activities if it worked anyway.

Or was it for some prepation work that we don't know about?

Whom? Seraph or redpill operatives?
He told Anti. M that it were operatives who might be watching the area - in this case, operatives in the vicinity would hardly have been able to stop the kidnapping anyway, and as far as I know, there weren't any who were guarding the Oracle before Seraph was gone.
But he might have deluded Anti M. while actually having Seraph in mind - would make sense.

By what?
It's said that it were distractions by the Blackwoods - but no one ever noticed those, their pointless gatherings were only used as evidences in investigations against Thallia. (Except if it really was distracting Seraph.)

At the end of 6.2.5, Flood said "evidently, that worked" - I thought he meant the investigations he had spent on this affair. Or maybe he meant those Blackwood gatherings?

In case it were really the Blackwood activities, I suppose Raini was materially or financially involved into this, and the shipments the Merovingian operatives noticed were not supposed to be seen.
(I wonder what Raini was supposed to tell the Merv investigators instead of the truth?)

Or were it the subway activities that were supposed to lure operatives into investigations where the Elements would push them around from one to another and thus distract them from whatever the General was doing there? In this case, it only worked on the Merovingians, and somehow I wonder if he should have counted with anything else.

Alright, I've run across this bug a few times already:

You try to start an archive mission, but get an error message like "mission could not start" or "my connection is freaking out. ..." "mission system error".

It can't be because the mission is restricted to Richland/Westview, because that's where I've tried it multiple times.
It can hardly be because of overfilled mission areas, because using /who revealed that I'm the only player in the area.

When CR 2.0 was released, several animations were broken. Apart from Guard Breaker and maybe a few others I haven't noticed, none of them have been fixed to my knowledge.

These have been brought up on this forum by me and others for a long time. However, in some older conversation inside the game, I was told by 9mmfu that the staff didn't read the forums too much (I think?), and sending /bug reports would help better.

After some testing, I've finally got around sending some of them, and gonna continue. My question, how are chances that those get noticed and fixed in foreseeable time? I don't expect any promises, I'd just like to know how to look at this whole thing.
After a year and a half, it would be nice to see some improvement in this area at last.

I can imagine that they might be hard to fix, but the zombies' got fixed pretty quickly aswell. Could it be that they just haven't been fixed because no one has reported them, or something?

Apart from specific broken animations, and having been around long before CR 2.0, are generall "off-setting" bugs where the Interlock participants get misplaced, don't face each other, punch in the air or merge into each other.
This happens close to walls that hinder the moves, but also randomly in free space.

It can really hurt the eye, and I'd like to have an idea what chance they have to ever be fixed, and the visual quality of Interlock be significantly improved.

Gameplay Discussion Missions and Storyline Mach 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 Mach 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 zeroone506 0 01/01/2007 13:31
I've got some logical issues with the chapter 1.1 archive missions.

When reviewing this subchapter, I've noticed something weird about the first two Machine missions, and have come to the conclusion that "Interference" should be 1.1.2 and "Redpill Redux" 1.1.1, unlike implemented.

In Zion's case, 1.1.1 "Redpill Rescue" begins with the imposters appearing for the first time and attacking a Zion team.
In 1.1.2 "Recruit with Machines", the Machines offer their help on a mission to prove their innocence in breaking the Truce.

In the Machines' case, 1.1.2 "Redpill Redux" also begins with Gray telling you about "renegades masquerading as our operatives" attacking a (different) Zion team right away, and also calls them "imposter Agents" for the first time at the end of the mission, and announces to take steps against this deception.

In 1.1.1 "Interference", that's what you do - assisting them on a mission to show them their good will. At the beginning, he says "the humans still do not trust us". This wouldn't be a problem considering the other tensions back then, but later in the mission, red-eyes appear, and the operator refers to them as "imposter agents" just like that.
Not a definite evidence because they might have been around already before, but especially compared to Zion, it seems like the order is wrong.

Yes, both 1.1.2 missions deal with bluepill recruitment, but the mission pacing hadn't began yet, and there are more cases like that. So it's a moot point.

Another issue: both in Zion 1.1.1 and Mach 1.1.2, the imposters are called "Machine operatives" before entering the area.
Tyndall then refers to them as "Agents" after the mission, and Gray already when you enter the area.
Edit: Same with Merv 1.1.1, the Merovingian redpill also attacked by "Machine operatives".

I've always thought "operatives" were redpills.

If yes, is that because the imposters' signals are weaker and can be taken as human signals?
That would prove my theory with the order, but there are several points speaking against it:
First, how do Machine operatives have different code signatures than Zion operatives and the attackers be defined as "Machine operatives" if the attacks were seen on screen?
And if they were reported by those attacked, they would've told about "Agents" right away.

Apart from that, in Zion 1.1.2, the Operator expects to see operatives where there are actually imposters, and wonders if their code was upgraded - so they don't look like redpills, after all. Further subchapters' missions seem to prove it.

Edit: Which also doesn't make sense considering  the operator has already seen red-eye Agents during the first mission. I'd almost assume the order was confused here aswell, if Tyndall didn't talk about "the Machines breaking the Truce" at the beginning...
Community Redpill Rescue PB boxes - how long do the bodies last? PB boxes - how long do the bodies last? zeroone506 0 12/31/2006 03:59

I thought I'd better ask it here.

The time limit before the box and the attackers disappear is 25 minutes from the moment you activate it.

Now, can I be certain that I can let the bodies unlooted for so long, and not bother searching them before I get drawn in combat and losing time and health?
Or do their unlooted bodies disappear as quickly as standard gang corpses, which means, far less than 15 minutes?
